Eggar's Butcher is behind the liquor store. If you walk into the liquor store and ask, "Where's the meat?" they will kindly direct you outside and tell you to follow the white lines to the butcher shop. Of all the butcher shops I've been into, Eggar's had the most unique items: every different cut and grind of turkey, elk steaks, elk steaklets (elk burgers, I later learned), rabbit, more seafood items than I had seen before, and the typical pork, beef, and chicken. They really proclaim their favor for unique animal meat, and outdoorsmen sentimentality, based on the number of different animal heads and fish mounted on the walls. I appreciated it, because if I just wanted some pork chops or hamburger, I would pick it up at the grocery store. A stop at the butcher shop should be an educational experience of what new types of animals are edible and what can and cannot be smoked. We purchased some ellk steaklets, turkey breakfast sausage, and a loaf of bread. They were all high quality including the bread. My wife wanted to return a few days later specifically for another loaf of bread. The elk steaklets, after thawed, were thrown on the grill with a little salt. I wanted to really taste the steak to see if I liked it or not. It was delicious, a little dryer than beef, but that may have been caused by my poor grilling technique. It was good enough to rejuvenate my wife's interest in unique meats, which had been shattered after un unfortunate frozen venison purchase at the grocery store. read more

Been here a few times now and I'm likely to keep popping in once in awhile. Prices are very high. I'm not a great judge of quality but for any given cut of meat you'll likely pay 50% to twice as much more for the same cut at a grocery store. This may end up being worth it to some folks. I'm sure the meat connoisseur would notice a difference but to this slob a ribeye is basically a ribeye so I'll save the money. Got a whole chicken here and paid twice as much as Trader Joe's which is already at the high end of grocery store chicken. I justified the expense by having them Spatch-cock the bird for me. A simple procedure but a messy one I don't love doing myself, nor would trust a deli clerk to do. They cut it well but when I got home I found out they kept the spine, neck and innards. Come on people! That's basically stealing in my book since 1.) They didn't ask first and 2.) When you buy a whole bird you expect to get a whole bird, gravy parts included. This goes to the service generally which is gruff and borderline resentful. That's fine, but don't take my bird parts. Seafood looks promising but I haven't dug too deep in this area. I did notice a lot of white (not peach) scallops which isn't a great sign, but the fresh mussels looked beautiful. For me, I'll probably be back for a major special occasion to splurge on something. But for everyday shopping there's just not nearly enough "meat on the bone" for this cost-conscious carnivore. read more

Steve one of the family owners treats you like you walked into his house.. bends over backwards to make you feel comfortable. He educates as you inquire about meats, cuts etc. His various jerkeys are darn good. I learned a good many hunters have their meat butchered into steak and such here too. Heck, if you want a darn great turkey this Thanksgiving.. get your order in early.. real early that's how popular this fine establishment is. When left to my own devices, I don't eat much meat--I don't like cooking or even handling it--and yet I genuinely love, and even look forward to, coming here to buy what I'm convinced is the best meat in town. Despite living walking distance from a few grocery stores, it's unquestionably worth the extra trip to buy the good stuff here, and I often make the excuse to do so--so much that my husband suspects that I have a secret butcher boyfriend (which, sadly, is not the case). The people here are absolutely delightful, and unendingly patient when I inevitably have no idea what I need or how to ask for it. We are in the midst of quarantining ourselves, but Steve was happy to take a sizable order and payment over the phone today, and bring it all out to our car. He was so courteous and accommodating despite being in high demand, which is consistent among everyone who works here--customer service here is top-notch. It seems the other reviews with higher stars have tried their meat sticks, but I haven't just to preface. I like that they have a lot of other cuts of meat that's tough to find at a regular supermarket. They have a lot of seasonings. They seem knowledgeable and nice. We grabbed two T-bones. They steaks were delicious and of good quality, but it was expensive. We'll probably come back for a special occasion, but not for an everyday meal. read more

Beautiful butcher shop with friendly helpful staff. We were in Spokane for vacation looking for some wild game jerky. Boy did we find it, and a whole lot more. We ended up buying several lbs of frozen meat and sausages to bring home. Tonight we had our Buffalo steaketts and they were delicious. They were totally nice to my four-year-old son (he's now addicted to their little smokies), and they took time to answer my questions and helped me find something god to try on my new grill. I can tell why they've been in business forever. I'm sure you can get cheaper at the supermarket, but God only knows what it's been fed or what kind of fillers you're feeding your family. This year I brought my harvested Mule Deer to Eggers on the south hill. I have tried other local butchers based on recommendations, convenience and price. This year I followed another recommendation and drove clear across town and spent twice as much to have my deer processed. After they hung my deer for 5 days as they said they would and two days to process they called me to get my meat. I drove up retrieved my product and left. After I got home I realized some of the product was incorrect. I called and spoke to Steve, who said to come back ASAP and he would resolve the issue. Even though they close the shop at 7 I arrived at 8:30 and was meet by Steve and Jeff. These two worked frantically to resolve the issue and provide all the proof necessary to assure me that the product I was leaving with was my deer. The following days I enjoyed some of my Jerky, grilled up some German Sausage with Mac 'n' Cheese and made some biscuits and sausage gravy. Me wife (not a venison fan) and daughter both ate everything. So in summary, 1. Worth the drive 2. Worth every penny 3. Dedicated to exceptional service and 4. Amazing Products.
