The contract is initially for a year, and there's some sloppy language about auto renewals after 1 year. But in Illinois, written auto renewal notices are required to be provided to consumers prior to renewal. I didn't receive this, but I did email them 90 days before my renewal service to cancel because I had lost my job and couldn't afford it. They wanted to speak on the phone (canned text). Now it's June and the renewal service was still scheduled. I had NUMEROUS contacts over text and email reminding them of my notice of cancellation. They sent me SEVERAL emails and texts saying that we needed to speak on the phone. Nowhere in the contract does it say a phone call is mandatory to cancel. I kept telling them it had nothing to do with the service, and that I had lost my job. "We do need to speak to you." I finally, FINALLY got a notice of closure after 24 hours of unnecessary back and forth. I would not have written a review about my experience with EcoShield. I never had any issues, but I also didn't have a bug problem - I hired them for prevention. But now that they were so blatantly disrespectful, coercive, and ignorant of my situation and intent to cancel, CONGRATULATIONS: you earned a review.

The service tech that came out to my house was just as knowledgeable. Felt very comfortable and secure that I hired a good company. I just called them again in 2026 because I thought I had another infestation. Their prices were still affordable after six years. I scheduled my appointment, and then, after three more calls to Doug, I sent him a picture of the pest. Turns out it was tick. Doug was honest and cancelled my appointment, since I didn't need his service. He didn't try to lie or tell me I still needed service. I appreciate the honesty.

We called Terminix first for a free inspection but their performance was lackluster. Their guy checked our bedroom but never pinpointed the source of the problem and quoted me $800 for a treatment anyway. Didn't inspire much confidence so I called Affordable Bed Bug Exterminators instead because they sounded so professional on the phone, they quoted me less than half the price and I figured they would be more specialized anyway. When I talked to Doug on the phone, I actually asked him why they're so cheap, and he explained they're a much smaller company with more efficiency and less waste so they are able to charge less. Sold! They sent James out to us the next day to treat our apartment as well as our downstairs neighbors' to be safe and within 10 minutes I was glad I chose ABBE. He located the bed bugs right away nestled away in our headboard and showed them to me. He was so patient and answered my many questions and he was so kind to my neighbor who was overwhelmed with the whole ordeal. His sweet demeanor gave us so much peace in an otherwise traumatizing and violating situation. Afterward I let my bed bug prisoner out of the jar to walk around in some of the treatment sprayed along our baseboards then put him back in the jar to watch what would happen. He was sufficiently dead by the next day. Sorry little blood sucking cretin, it was me or you. It's been almost a month and I'm so happy to report no more bites! So glad we chose Affordable!

He seemed to care deeply about the results of the treatment and I'm looking forward to the follow ups. Sounds like pricing and policies vary by the reps you have. I guess you should read the contract closely before signing up to see if yours are offering fair terms. Here's what ours are: $99 discounted first visit. $129 per quarterly visit. 12 month contract. If you cancel before 12 months you have to pay the diff between the discounted first visit and it's normal price. That normal price is $249 so it'd cost us $150 to cancel.

Mark this as the first time I have ever slammed the door in anyone's face in my life. Several other neighbors reported the exact same thing happening. This company's service might be great, but Hoover Street will never know.
