My colleague and I were looking for a new pizza by the slice spot for lunch and came across Eight Street Pizza. This place is like a hidden gem. Somewhat hard to find - no big signs out front, no marketing, less traffic area. When you go inside, it's small but you can already tell that their pizzas is gonna be good. Not quite "amazing " but good. Slices are large, $7 gets you a pepperoni slice, about $8.50 for a combo. Nice folks, father and son run shop and have been in business about 15 years. Three small tables, offer bottled and canned drinks, no public bathroom. It's greasy and sloppy cheesey goodness. Not the best but certainly not the worst. The slice is heated up to perfection so you can enjoy it pipping hot! There are only a couple of tables and chairs inside so plan on taking it to go. So glad to have a NY Style pizza spot conveniently located near my office building! I was able to walk over with no issues. I came by to order a few pizzas for my team. They requested a Hawaiian BBQ pizza and Combo pizza so that's exactly what I ordered. They have different sizes such as the Medium pizza with 8 slices and a Large pizza with 12 slices. I ended up choosing the Medium pizza for both pizzas since that would be enough for my team. The pizzas were made fresh and the service had a quick turnaround with minimal wait time. The pizzas were still hot by the time I got back to the office to give to the team. The pizzas were the perfect amount of cheese (enough for a good cheese pull!) and had so much flavor in every bite with the amount of toppings they put. After visiting Sacramento's eight other pizza by the slice places I have to upgrade Eighth Street Pizza to five stars for having incredible crust. The crust is like a crisp tortilla. It's amazing. Went here to get pizza for lunch while in office and I'm glad I finally caught them when they're open (hours posted online were not accurate the past few years I tried to go here). They were usually closed despite what it said online. This shop is a hidden gem and you can easily miss it if you aren't paying attention. It does seem run down from the outside, but those places usually have the best food. Inside is clean, and very cozy. There are 2 small tables and you see the food counter and register on your right when you enter. The price and food are worth it. For about $11, I got enough pizza for lunch and dinner and a drink. Hard to find places with pricing like this. The pizza slices are huge. The taste is decent as well. Crust is crispy and lots of toppings. It did not disappoint and fort less than $10 for just a huge slice of pizza, I will not complain at all, even if it wasn't good. I hope they stay open. read more

My husband brought home lunch after some appointments and I wasn't ready for the gigantic slices from 8th Street Pizza. He came home with two medium sized boxes and each had two huge slices of pepperoni pizza ($5.50/slice). The pizza was thin crust with a generous amount of pepperoni on each slice. I found this place in Yelp. Seemed like it was promising, plus my husband works fairly close. The first two times midweek, the place was closed at 5:05 p.m. I remember seeing the place had been closed several times before unexpectedly. Hmmm. Not sure why but it's happened several times. Call before you make the trip here. This is my only reason why I can't make a firm recommendation. Otherwise, the food looks and tastes great, and I would say it's worth the trip. P.S. No nitrates (artificially added) in the pepperoni. I wish more places did this. Third time, a Friday, they were open. My husband ordered a whole large pizza, cheese and pepperoni and brought it home. We heated it up about 5 minutes and then dug in. Thin, chewy crust, plenty of cheese and just the right amount of pepperoni. My husband said the single slices are fairly large. The sauce was a classic tomato. The varieties on the menu means you'll never get bored with the food. My ranking is based on the food only. If not for the unexpected closings, this place is really good New York style pizza. read more

Teenage son took my order and worked the register. Father makes the pizza. The food and the service were great. When I visited, it was already pretty late in the night (9pm - 10pm) and the man working mentioned they're open until about 2am on Fridays. Too many pizza places advertise that they're New York-style without actually delivering. This is an exception. The dough, the crust, the options, the size...they nail it. Eight Street Pizza is one of those non-descript places which I pass-by on my way to the Central Library and never paid much attention to. It's a small pizzeria with four dine-in tables available. The decor is a picture of the Tower Bridge and there's Spanish mariachi music playing. The cashier is a nice, young lady. I ordered the Daily Special, which is two slices, three toppings for nine dollars even. The toppings I had were beef pepperoni, mushrooms, and jalapenos. Interesting to note is they have two varieties of pepperoni, basic and beef. Although these are gourmet pizzas the waiting time was fairly short. The slices are gargantuan! These are the biggest slices of pizzas I've eaten. I'm a big eater but I had to cut the pizzas with a knife and a fork. The sauce is a zesty tomato sauce which they call Signature Sauce. Generous amounts of mozzarella and even the crust was tasty. I had a late lunch but the two slices were filling that I didn't have much of an appetite for the rest of the day.
