I'm not sure where to start, so I'll just go from the beginning... I have struggled to find a stylist that "gets" both my style and hair type. I have ethnic (Greek) hair, but I've always longed for caramel/darker blonde highlights. A difficult feat for someone with super dark hair. I had my hair done by Alexis years ago, but lost touch after a few moves and life events. When I found out she has been at Eikon in Wexford, I immediately booked her. The salon itself is beautiful, and everyone (from the receptionist to each stylist) is so kind. One thing I noticed was that every single person who left looked genuinely happy with their hair. I showed Alexis the picture I pulled up on Pinterest and she made my hair look exactly. like. the. picture. Caramel highlights without damaging my hair. I tried out this salon for the first time and had Steven (owner) as my stylist. I've been to salons everywhere including other Pittsburgh salons and those in NY, Dallas, Seattle, and many other cities, and I must say this experience was one of the best I have had in 15 years! The salon is beautiful, clean, and has a large selection of hair care products including Kerastase and Bumble & Bumble products. I had purchased a Groupon and my experience with Groupon in other salons has not been good so it had been years since I had used Groupon. This salon was different. They accommodated my need for a soon appointment and delivered fantastic service without any hidden fees or add-on charges at the end! Steven is an all-around genuine guy, and extremely nice! He understood my hair needs and used a variety of different products on my hair to give it shine and softness. He was also able to match my root color exactly and gave me a trim (without chopping too much off!) All in all I had a fantastic experience and will be referring my other friends here. And if you're coming from Pittsburgh it's worth the drive! read more

Before we get into it, there are two things you need to know: First, I actually went to Eikon over the summer, but based on the fact that I'm still suffering from the experience I had there, I decided I should share. Second, I have had my hair bleached ombre before and although there was a little damage, it was nothing even close to this experience I've had this time around. I went in to see Heather. She cut my hair which turned out nicely and a week later I went back for colour. I wanted that lavender/grey ombre look that was pretty big over the summer. I will say that she did an excellent job PLACING the bleach - it fades really well and so if you are going for a mild bleach job, then maybe this is the place for you. However, I have medium brown hair and to achieve a pastel color, you need to bleach your hair to a platinum white blonde which is a part of the problem. Since my appointment there, I learned through online research and asking other stylists that you shouldn't bleach for longer than about 45 minutes in one sitting. If you bleach for 45 minutes and the color still isn't lifted enough, you're supposed to send the client home and have them return in two weeks so their hair can recover a bit. Not with Heather. Oh no, she had me in that chair for a full hour and when it still wasn't light enough, she reapplied the bleach for ANOTHER HOUR. She bleached my hair for two hours straight. And it still wasn't totally platinum! I know brown hair is hard to bleach to platinum, but I have spent the past several months wracking my brain to figure out why she didn't take any measures to preserve the health of my hair as much as possible? Why didn't she send me home? Or maybe suggest a deep condition before bleaching again? How was I to know 2 hours is a long time to bleach? Other hairdressers have been known to flat out refuse to continue, because the damage is not always worth the look. I trust the hairdresser to be educated enough to make such a judgement, but she made no judgement. When she finished she gave it a cute blowout so I was happy, but after my first shower, my hair wasn't just dry. It was ELASTIC. It stretched about an inch and was impossible to run a comb through for months. Immediately after the bleaching I had a rat tail from hair that just burned right off. The rat tail is now significantly bigger - pretty much it's own short layer now because the hair is so dry it knots up and rips out no matter how much I condition it. My hair is a frizzy, dry, miserable mess and I now have to cut it off. It took 5 months just for the stretching to stop. It still falls out in chunks. I want to cry every time I look at the ends because it used to be so long and wavy and beautiful and now I look like a tortured barbie doll. I know I was asking for an edgy color job, but I just don't know how it could get this bad. So that's my story: after 4 hours in the chair and a whopping $240 after tip, my long, beautiful wavy hair has been turned into a frizzy, stretchy, tangly nightmare and now I have to cut it all off. After months of conditioning and babying, I just can't stand it anymore. As I said before, I know bleach causes damage and I don't want to be unrealistic, but I have seen others with darker hair than even mine succeed at the color I wanted. I put my trust in Heather as the "expert" and that was clearly a mistake that I'm still paying for. read more

I have gone back and forth for the past few days about writing this review because I had such great expectations based on other reviewers, even off of Yelp, and I left extremely disappointed. I get my hair cut once every 6 months and have yet to find somewhere I am in love with to keep going back. I scheduled an appointment and showed up right on time, I have been going back and forth between cutting about 8 inches of my hair off or keeping it long and cleaning up my layers. When I sat down in the chair, I started discussing my concerns and ideas with Heather. She didn't have a whole lot of input to offer except that it was my own personal choice. After 10 minutes of discussion, she told me that I did need to make a decision because she had another client coming in. Now, I understand if I were to make such a drastic change and wanted to chat with a professional about it, I should have scheduled a consultation, but at the same time, as a new client to be coming into this salon, I wish the receptionist would have told me on the phone that this particular stylist books every 30 minutes. 30 minutes is HARDLY enough by the time you wash, cut, dry and style it. (and I even opted not to have her style it because of the time crunch) I decided not to go through with chopping it because I felt so uncomfortable and rushed. I didn't feel I could get exactly what I wanted/the best haircut possible from this stylist in 15 minutes. I asked her to keep my length and trim it. She finished in about 7 minutes and started to dry me. I was never given a hand mirror to see the back of my hair. I asked her to put a couple layers around my face and that was the extent of touchups to the cut once my hair was dry. Luckily, we finished in time for her next client. I went to the front desk to pay ($45 for this minor snipping) and asked the receptionist to wait a second while I checked out their product line. The stylist had no problem accompanying me at the product display, though, for a few minutes, as her next client waited in the chair. Don't get me wrong - I like my hair cut. It is fine for what I asked for, but the overall experience and for how much I paid was just less than satisfactory...... and my search for a great stylist will continue. read more

I've been going go Eikon for five years...wow! This has to be the longest I've ever been a client at a hair salon. Dane is my guy. My color is always perfect and, when I let him cut my hair, it always looks so fresh and polished. I get complements all the time about my color and always recommend they go see Dane! Ok, so I usually say something snarky and rude about everywhere I go, but this place was pretty nice. The interior is decorated well, but was definitely done by a man. There are bent iron rods everywhere (hehehe), and the sinks are set a little too high for 5 foot 3, me. The staff is also rather masculine, no Eat'n Park kids meals being eaten here folks ;-) Anyways, none of that is important, because the work that Stephen did was AMAZING. As he put it "this hair looks a little, well, like a canary" Yes, that's right I was that awful yellowy-orange hybrid that comes from going dark then light then trying to salvage it somewhere in the middle. Stephen looked long and hard at my hair, informed me he was formulating a "plan of attack", and then saved my hair from canary faux pas h*ll. Well done. I will definitely go back. read more

I have to update my review because I just had a very bad experience with the receptionist there. They forgot to confirm the appointment I requested online about 10 days prior to, so when I showed up, no stylist was available for me. Further, the receptionist girl treated me as if it was my fault that i showed up without an appointment confirmation - i DID receive an email back from them after I requested online. She said that does not mean anything. She never said a word for apologize. I LOVE Steven the stylist there and love to come back only if I dont have to see that same girl again. I am not contributing a penny for her paycheck. read more

Came in for cut an all over highlight... Gave stylist, Nelson, very little direction and he still made some good choices for me. The main reason this spinster 5 stars is the receptionist(s). When I first called I got a little bit of attitude and when I got there, he was running a little behind, but they didn't tell me, offer water... Anything. He was very apologetic, but I was starting to get annoyed by the time he was able to get to me. And that could've easily been avoided if someone up front had just told me what was going on. read more

I had moved to PA a year ago, and was apprehensive about looking for a new salon. I've had the same hairdresser for the last 10 years, but Los Angeles is a little far to go for a hair cut. A few friends recommended that I go to Amber at Eikon. I decided to go, and am really happy that I did. Amber did a great job, she consulted with me about how I wanted my hair cut, and then cut it the way we talked about. I love it, and have received tons of compliments about my hair. I recently came back to Los Angeles for work, and keep hearing how great it looks. Coast to coast compliments are not a bad thing!! Too bad I can't fly Amber out here. She also waxed my eyebrows. I've gotten compliments on them in LA as well. I think it's funny that people are checking out my eyebrows, but it's LA, so I guess it's not that surprising! I also like that the salon will send text reminders about appointments. They called to confirm, but it was nice to get the reminder on my phone. Amber was really fun to talk to, and the rest of the staff at Eikon were friendly as well. I highly recommend coming here (and seeing Amber) if you're looking for a new hair dresser. read more

Update: I've had Alexis cut my hair the last 3 times and will continue to do so. She's awesome and I see no reason to go anywhere else or schedule anyone else. I just had my hair cut by Dane. He did a great job and was very friendly. The rest of this is just filler because a review has to be a certain length. I'm not sure how much detail I can go into about a haircut I liked. I'm really happy with this salon. The owner did my hair and he did a really great job. I went in on a Groupon and I will be going back for additional cuts. He's cut my hair twice now and 2nd time I wasn't sure how I felt about it because of the length. It was a little shorter than what I'm used to. However after a week or two I really enjoyed my hair and the way he cut it made it very easy to style. I love his use of the razor on hair. It works really well for my hair type. Plus the owner is super friendly and kind! I highly recommend the salon! read more

I'm fairly new to the Greater Pittsburgh area and was relieved to find that Eikon came well-recommended on Yelp and by word-of-mouth. From the time that I called the salon and spoke to Sarah over the phone (a fellow former New Yorker) to the time I walked out of the salon, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and that this place is a class act. I had my hair relaxed and styled by Miss LaVetta, who is really friendly, and has gifted hands. Her shampoos are the BEST. I literally asked her, "What are you doing?" ( it was that good!) I recently moved away from Pittsburgh and am really missing Eikon! Very friendly staff, really cute salon, but Dane is the reason was my salon for so long. As a blonde I have to say I am very picky about my color. Dane never left me with color or a cut that I wasn't in love with. Easy conversation and the best scalp massages and washes you could imagine (seriously- maybe he knows reflexology?). Love him! My trips home will be extended so I can get my hair done! read more

I've been searching for a talented male stylist in the western part of Pittsburgh for some time. Having no interest in the stereotypical barber shop high and tight clipper cut, I was referred to Eikon due to the fact that they have several male stylists on staff. Personally, I expect a stylist to be up on contemporary men's styles, so I was also pleased to learn that their stylists have experience outside of Pittsburgh. Having had numerous bad experiences at other local salons, I booked my appointment with some hesitant optimism. Overall my experience was positive. (Keep in mind, this was my first visit.) Dane was welcoming, patient, and professional. He seemed to connect with what I was looking for. What I appreciated most was his experience with razor cutting. At no time did I feel uncomfortable in his chair. I'm looking forward to my next appointment and hopefully an end to my search. My only criticism is directed toward the receptionist. She was very cold and unwelcoming. Not the best first impression to make on a new client, especially one as particular as me. I asked a friend who had beautiful hair where she went, that was 4 yrs ago & the rest is history. She said her stylist was Amber. I called Amber for a consult & she was able to see me right away. 4 years later she cuts my BF's hair, her teen daughters & my husbands. Amber is fun, hip & honest. She's open to any ideas I might have about my hair & always has fun ideas to keep it looking modern & fresh. I receive many compliments on my hair color & cut from strangers. Got my hair done Erina and she was AWESOME! I'm very bad at keeping up with my hair and will usually diy at home. Erina reformed me, lol. She was so knowledgeable in getting me to the color and look I hope to be...but also gave me the most amazing color job and haircut I've had in years until then to maintain the health of my hair. It's hard to find a stylist that listens to exactly what you want, but if that can't be achieved right away, explains things to you in a way that makes you want to come back to see what else she'll have up her sleeve at your next appointment. WORST SERVICE EVER! As a new customer, I had trouble finding the salon and was about 10 mts late. They cancelled the appointment for me. The receptionist was totally unfriendly. I did let her know that I can skip shampooing and just get hair cut only. Bluntly said NO! She never managed to ask the stylist if that would be possible in the limited time. This means that they simply DON'T value customers. I would discourage anyone from patronizing this salon. PLEASE save your time & $$$s someplace else. read more

To start, I had a groupon because I am looking for a new stylist so I thought using a groupon to test it out would be great. The girls are nice at the door, nice place, but I think the groupon only applied to new stylists, and I felt here they don't care as much about groupon customers because they don't get the full amount. So I had issues and needed the color and cut. When I talked to the stylist she said to fix it she would also need to put highlites in to fix the problem. That would be extra of course. So I decided to trust her because thats how I am. Still being nice here.....I don't have to be. She was nice but I'm not sure she was the best person to do my hair because my of past coloring issues. So I fugured it was worth the money, 72 groupoun cut color conditioning, and 70 extra for highlights, plus a tip. I just looked closely in the mirror and its a copper color on top which I really stated I didn't want ant gold or copper look, so when she said darker I thought darker not just a weird shade of blonde, and the highlights didn't blend up to my root color in with the rest of my hair. She styled it nice so I liked it ay first. Until I realize I have copper/gold blonde hair with whiter blonde below. I just could never come back and tell them I am upset about it. But I think the groupon deal was a good way to bring people in to newer stylists and get you to spend a little more so at the end of the day I spent what the price was without the groupon anyway. Annnd my hair is copper and I have to spend more money to change that some where else, when I spent over 100 there. I liked it that day until I dried and looked through it.
