NO INDOOR SEATING or DINING ALLOWED! While traveling, I was happy to find an Einstein Bros near my hotel. Having no idea indoor dining was NOT allowed, I made an online order and walked 10 minutes in the rain to enjoy my breakfast. Upon and arrival (don't forget it is 2023), I found the store had no chairs, tables slid to the side and signage indicating that indoor dining was not allowed. First, I am in 100% agreement that the business can choose to operate in this manner. However, I will no long visit future Einstein Bagel restaurants due to the practice. In addition, I do find it "false advertising" to sell your product online, reflecting that a store with a dining area is "open" and not state otherwise. Please update your online order website to clearly indicate that indoor dining is not allowed, or open up like 99% of the rest of the world. (Note, the local employees were pleasant and I suspect would have been a great place to dine, but I will never know) read more

I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese. I had my little girl with me. The nerve of them. They actually served me a burnt bagel. Not just in one area, all around. I couldnt get to it because the outer edges were all burnt. The crusting was working its way onto my cream cheese when i tried to dig in. I posted a picture, doesent do it "justice" cause the outside of the bagel was fugged too. One guy came in from a smoke break, didint wash his hands, and started working and touchin the bagels. The Manager at the time, seemed to have been too occupied trying to be "cool" with the regular customers, totally seeing my burnt bagel and just not doing anything about it. Why? For some reason, bagels and lox was on my mind and I was in Reston. You can put two and two together and see how and why I ended up here. My bagel with lox and vanilla latte were tasty and just the right amount of food and caffeine. They did have a lot of cream cheese on the bagel though so you might want to tell them to go light on that if possible. The only thing that's preventing this place from being rated higher is the service times. There were people in front of me waiting a long time for their food and their facial expressions were beginning to show for it. Plus the line was getting longer as there were only three employees behind the line (two working the line, one working the register). My bagel and latte didn't take too long but it caused some to get upset as I received my items before them. Minimal selection of bagels by mid-morning. Understaffed and rude when I corrected my drink order. Tables weren't wiped down and it was a bit messy inside. Ordered a medium specialty coffee and while making a small, I corrected them for it to be a medium and I don't think the correct amount of espresso went in for a medium drink. Ordered an Asiago bagel with garden veggie schmear and I believe they gave me a thinner bagel meant for sandwiches...Every time I order a bakers dozen the bagels are much thicker. Toasted fine and schmear to bagel ratio was okay, just wish it was a regular sized bagel that I paid for. read more

My party of 4 visited Einstein's on Father's Day June 16th hoping to have a good and quick experience. At the time we arrived, the restaurant was not very crowded and clearly had someone in training at the register (understandable). This was probably around 11:45am-12:00pm. Upon ordering, they were out of quite a few bagels but we paid a total of $30.38 for 4 bagel sandwiches along with 2 medium coffees and 2 bottles of milk. Our party proceeded to take a seat and wait for our food. At this point there were 5 different groups of people waiting. About 25 minutes to by, and a customer that had been waiting finally received their food causing some of us to begin clapping and saying "congratulations" as it is totally absurd to wait that long for eggs and sausage to be thrown in the microwave. After this incident occurred the manager proceeds to walk over to my table. She states and I quote "that was really disrespectful of you to clap like that and I would appreciate if it doesn't happen again. You are demoralizing my staff and making them not want to work". Wow. She then began to say that if we have opinions we need to keep them to ourselves and fill out the survey online (which I did). We didn't receive a "I'm sorry your food is taking so long" or "here's a coupon for the inconvenience" etc. Instead of trying to satisfy HER customers she decided to demean her customers. This insane wait caused another group to actually request a refund without an apology from the manager either. 35 minutes later our food arrived. Not only was the food cold, but the orders weren't remotely correct. At this point we were so frustrated that we just dealt with it and left. I don't know who hired this women as a manager, but she is most definitely in the wrong job. Where do you go when you're craving breakfast food and it's past 11am? Einstein Bagels, of course! I'm rarely a morning person, so it's hard for me to make usual breakfast hours. And as a lover of bagels, Einstein is a great option. I got spoiled while in college by an AMAZING bagel place, so I'm only so-so about Einstein's bagels. But they have lots of options and convenience. My most recent visit, I came for 2 things - to use a birthday reward (free egg sandwich with purchase) and to try a couple of the new menu items that caught my eye in my email box. First, I got an email about a mac and cheese bagel. Amazing. Then, a week or 2 later, I got an email about fried chicken as a sandwich topping...mac and cheese...and fried chicken...OMG, I was excited. The fried chicken came on 2 types of sandwiches - a breakfast sandwich and a lunch/dinner sandwich, both on the hash brown bagel. I love breakfast sandwiches and I had my reward for an egg sandwich, so I got the "Crispy Chicken & Tater Breakfast Sandwich," but subbed the mac and cheese bagel. I also bought a French toast shmearful, since I had to make a purchase for my reward and that's a pretty small item. The woman who checked me out was very nice and chatted with me about my birthday and some other light conversation while I waited for my sandwich to be prepared. A different employee came up to give me my food and asked if I wanted a fruit cup or chips with my meal, because it came with the sandwich. I was very confused because I've never had that before with breakfast, but I figured hey, it's a new sandwich, maybe they changed it up, so I got fruit. This fruit cup was so sad. Tiny, with bad fruit, and strawberries that looked inedible. And when I opened my bag, I realized why there was the difference in what was included with my meal. The woman who prepared my food was different than the one who took my order and rang me up. So in the pass-off of my order, she must have misheard, and prepared a lunch sandwich instead of the breakfast version. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal about a free sandwich, but I really wanted to try this breakfast sandwich, with my chicken, egg, cheese, country pepper shmear, and mac and cheese. So I went back to ask about it and they gladly prepared the breakfast version, letting me keep the lunch one as well, since they would just have to throw it out. So it was a little annoying at first, but they demonstrated great customer service by addressing it. And this way I could try both sandwiches as well. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the lunch sandwich, considering the only sauce on it was mayo and the lettuce looked kind of wilted. I think it was the tomato and red onion that added the extra oomph. I loved the breakfast sandwich though. The pepper shmear added the perfect seasoning and the combo of mac and cheese and fried chicken was pure goodness. Next time, I'll have to try it on the hash brown bagel, like it was intended, in order to compare. The shmearful was also very good and a nice sweet bite at the end of my meal. It would have been better warm though. Other visits, I usually get the turkey sausage and cheddar egg sandwich. At other bagel places, my go to is an everything bagel. But at Einstein, the caraway seed is a deterrent to me, plus there's not nearly enough salt on this bagel and they don't season the eggs, so the sandwich is very lacking when on this bagel. So I've taken to getting this sandwich on a salt bagel to up that salt factor. I wish they had other cheese options available, since cheddar isn't my favorite. But you can't beat this classic combo. Overall, Einstein is a pretty good, fast bagel option with lots of options. And this location has always been great with customer service. read more

Not sure why this spot only has two stars. I've come here plenty of times and not once have had a negative experience. They just added Caribou coffee to their menu, with a few different drinks to choose from. If you've never had Caribou, you are missing out. They don't have my favorite Mint Condition yet. But maybe soon! :) I always get the same thing: pumpernickel bagel with extra schmear. And do they mean extra. The cream cheese is really good. I love their yummy cherry danish. The customer service for me has always been spot on. Comfort is one of the nicest cashiers plus, overall human beings I've ever met. Catherine was nice too. Mariah was over the top kind, I came in there limping today and she was full of empathy. This place deserves more stars, just my opinion. read more

Chaos and confusion seem to be the rule this morning. Haven't been here in a while and decided to pop in for a quick lox and bagel, not the best idea.... at just after 9 the only reason for the line was super confusion on ringing at the order register. That finally got cleared and then the food auction started.... Who had the everything with cream cheese she yells. Hummmmm they ask our name at time or order. Doesn't she know who this goes to? I commented I have a everything but with flavored cream cheese and what's on this.... No clue so off she goes to figure out. Finally decide it's plain so not mine but still no clue who ordered. Hummmmm seems the couple who had a issue at the order register claims it but they are still missing part, Mine comes out and all is okay.... But we now compare the sad lack of lox on top as compared to the generous topping over at Bagel Cafe in Herndon. Should have popped over there but we needed close and quick. Hubby snarfed down before I could grab a pic but next time if we do come back I will complain..... Not even close to the advertised pic on the sign. Me bad for not checking first. The positive: The manager is really really good - positive, quick, efficient, friendly The negative: There is no consistency in the bagels. The blueberry bagels no longer have whole blueberries in them, they have tiny chips and skin. Some weeks they have a whole wheat like type flour and last week they were yellow and tasted like egg bagels. The pumpernickel bagels are sometimes dark in color and sometimes very light. Horrible, rude, uncourteous service (from one employee in particular). I've been into this location multiple times and the food has been fine and the service hit or miss. Today was a big miss. I went there on my way back from the doctor's office nearby. I walked in, and the gentleman taking orders was reasonably polite, but as I was providing my order, the employee preparing the food came up to the counter and started shrugging, rolling his eyes, and mumbling to the server to whom I was speaking. I looked at him, and he rudely and very irritably said "what do you need? tell me what you want!" and as I explained, he got increasingly frustrated and visibly angry. He seemed miserable to be there and it was only 10 AM! I have dietary restrictions so i was asking for a Santa Fe bagel sandwich without the turkey. I was so turned off by his behavior, I asked for the manager, who apologized for the "miscommunication" and was relatively courteous, but not particularly accommodating. I walked out of the location, not wanting to patronize the location. Went to a local joint a few miles down the street instead. Hire better employees! read more

I am a customer of 18 years. This place used to be great few years back. In last few years, this place has changed for worst. There is utter confusion among staff, orders are inaccurate, sandwiches are grose, staff is brand new every week, and on and on. Spinach and lettuce are stale. If you want Latte, add 15 minutes. Man this place is a certifiable mess. I've been here a couple times because it's close and it's the only bagel shop nearby that sells bakers dozens that I can take to the office, but this'll be my last trip. The line and front kitchen is always disorganized, the panels they use to keep track of orders are always red - meaning you're there twiddling your thumbs for even just a bagel with cream cheese, and you can tell the employees are all having a rough day. Management here really needs to get their act together and make it clearer what people's roles are and how the process is supposed to work. Here is what I found when I returned to my office with my takeout: 1) Hashbrown -- stone cold. Not even old, reheated cold. They likewise forgot to include red onion on my nova lox bagel, even though I specifically asked for it. The cream cheese was wrong too. I am not sure why people are ripping this place,but while it's not one of the better/cleaner Einstein locations: they still deliver a good product. The store is a bit cramped and possibly due to the competition in the strip mall; they limit the varieties of bagels on hand. My fave is the poppyseed, which is often down to one or two at lunch time and shares a bin with another bagel :) The nova lox is my go to lunch item and depending on the prep person; you may get a decent portion or not. Either way for $7, its a great fresh sandwich. Service is a bit inconsistent; as once in a while you are told to order at the counter and other time; someone by the case will take your order. Overall about a 3.5 star, but rounding up for the frequent weekly promos of $2 off on Tuesdays, bagel Mondays,etc read more

The drink machines get ignored in the morning, so no ice, no sweet tea- and no one to get help from. Very slow service. We ordered two bagels, toasted with cream cheese and it took over 20 minutes. Insanity. People were coming in after me and getting their breakfast sandwiches before me. There were like 8 workers so it didn't seem like they were understaffed. When I got home my bagel was completely black and burnt on one side. Ok I usually love this place because thy have great bagels and I get their Santa Fe sandwich. But today i saw a new sandwich, the Espresso Buzz Bagel with egg, cheese and bacon. I love coffee so this sounded amazing. WRONG. First it took them 15 mins to make it and when I got to eat it it was missing the cheese and had no butter on the bagel as described. I love the Einstein Bagels brand. For years when worked in Reston, I came by this store for my morning fix and coffee. Recently, I have taken the time to drive to Einstein on Friday mornings after work. I have to say, each time it has gotten worse. Today took the cake. All I wanted was two everything bagels and their jalapeno cream cheese and a cup of dark coffee. On my last visit, the service was mediocre and the bagel had barely any "everything" on it and what may have been a teaspoon of cream cheese. Today, with four people working the counter, it took 20 minutes to get two bagels and a cup of coffee. It seemed that rather than the regular big healthy schmear of cream cheese, there was too little, the bagels had almost no everything toppings, and the store didn't seem to keep up with demand for bagels, as I was told there were no everythings, then there were. They seem to have at least two people making finished bagels and half of them didn't seem to know what they were doing, despite the fact I see them there every week. Two workers were taking orders, but then seemed to wander around and seemed very unconcerned about helping when things started to back up. There definitely needs to be some training and improvement and perhaps a manager should be checking on status and quality control, especially when they get busy. I hope my next trip will have fixed these problems and Einstein will go back to the shop I love. read more

Came back here with Paul/White Dragon on one of our first dates. Located in the shopping center across from Reston Town Center with the bookstore and assorted business. Grabbed a table by the door, and maybe it's because I'm not a morning person but I didn't care for the added atmosphere of cheery sunlight. I tried a Spicy Elmo and it actually ranked yummy enough in my tummy to restore the hesitant star to my previously mediocre experience. WOW! I realize this is Northern Virginia but can we say COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE? I literally got into a heated argument with one of the staff members after I asked politely for a turkey bagel sandwich minus mayonnaise. I watched as the guy slathered a big heaping portion of the gooey white stuff all over my bagel then asked him to please correct the sandwich as I cannot and will not eat mayonnaise. He stared coldly into my eyes and stated calmly that he "did not put any mayo" on my sandwich. Um.. dude I just saw you slather it on there can you please make me a new one? Him: *takes the bagel and slams it down on the counter, grabs a sharp knife and eyes me menacingly as he makes a slow scraping motion to remove the goop from the surface of the bread* "THERE! BETTER?! *throws the bagel violently into a paper bag and shoves it in my direction* Me: Can I speak to your manager? U people are nuts. Manager: *rudely* is there a problem? Me: *can't believe this conversation is actually occurring* Yes..um, your employee just denied putting mayo on my bagel then when called out (after several attempts) rudely and abruptly scrapes the mayonnaise off the bagel and throws it at me. I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable and I want a refund. Manager: We can't refund your money, the bagel was already rung up. Me: Why? I stated from the beginning it was made incorrectly. Refund me or I will call for reinforcements. *thorougly pissed at this point* Manager: FINE. HERE!!! Me: Have a nice life, crazies. And that was my LAST experience with Einstein. I'd been going since mid 2003 or so.. the place used to be run by very pleasant and down-to-earth people, and it used to be only around 4 bucks for a bagel sandwich with turkey. Doable. Now, they apparently have neo-condiment Nazis running the place who will threaten you with sharp objects if you don't like what they put on your sandwich and charge you seven dollars for a turkey sandwich on stale bagel (they count this as a flavor) with no drink or sides. First, ignore any reviews prior to 2019. The store was completely revamped with new managers and a total renovation. This is a great low cost breakfast and lunch option, especially for their bagels which are very, very good. The menu is bagel-centric of course but fairly varied with bagel and cream cheese choices, sandwiches, and other assorted pastries. On most every visit now, the staff is efficient and friendly. It can be crazy during the morning, but most days the line moves relatively quickly. As with any other fast-breakfast restaurant, the occasional person ordering 6 dozen bagels with special requests can hold up the line. The store itself is completely renovated and very comfortable now. The only criticism would be the focus on group seating, which makes it tough to sit if you want a private area to eat! As a long time Einstein Bros. customer in Reston, I can say the restaurant is run much better than any time since the first year or two it opened. read more
