El Agave is one of Wenatchee's long term Mexican restaurant locations. We've eaten here 20 years ago when it was called Tequila's. The building's motif, inside and out is so adorned in festive colors, murals, adobe archways, and Mexican decor, that it could hardly be any other kind of business. The front salon of the restaurant has fixed booth seating, typically for four. The middle salon has free standing tables that can be arranged for larger groups. The rear salon is the bar area with stools and sports television. I called before lunch and reserved seating for 12 at 7:30 pm. When we arrived, everything was clean and ready, and we were accommodated by a waiter and waitress. They handled us in stride along with all their other customers--no waiting, no mistakes, no pressure, all positive. Their menu is extensive; there's something for everyone, from the basics--tacos, enchiladas, rellenos, rice and beans--to signature meals of steak and seafood. I ordered all five of the first choices above for $15.75 (see photo) and a Tecate beer with lime. The portions are huge, definitely filling the plate rim-to-rim. I noticed that the sauces for the enchiladas, the rellenos, and the taco were all different. The complexity of flavors was very satisfying. Yes, the Cadillac Margaritas were $19 each, but they were easily 2-3 times larger than a regular cocktail. The food was delicious, the service was stellar, and the prices were very fair, especially considering the large portion sizes. Think of El Agave as Mexican faire in the time-honored flavors we all expect. The Pico-de-Gallo and guacamole are exceptional! ...definitely 5-Stars. read more

This was the best! Off on an excellent adventure tour of Washington and we found this gem. Pollo street taco to die for..! Delicious with their own savoury chili sauce to add even more heat and flavour. My partner had the seafood enchilada which was so much food we share some of his sides. Family of four with 2kids, food didn't come out almost for an hour. They kindly refilled chips three times, kids were full on chips and didn't eat much of their actual food. My fiends also had tequila shots which they liked as well. For dinner. We had steak fajitas which were great and enough for two to share. Excellent customer service. Great staff. Cute restaurant with old, western style design. I had the shrimp Diablo dish. Rice was so bland and tasted old. To me rice defines a Mexican restaurant so very disappointed. The shrimp was small but decent. The sauce tasted a bit like ketchup. Think the mushrooms were the best part in the dish. The flour tortillas were store bought and not piping hot as one would expect. Overall a meh experience. With so many other choices around I don't think I'd go back here. I'd suggest save your money and go elsewhere. read more

We came here for lunch and I have to say the food was not the best. I ordered the chicken asada which was approximately 2 bites of chicken with some rice and beans. Ambiance was great in fact so great it out did the food. When you see a place this colorful and cool looking you expect more. Service was ok not real attentive but not horrible. read more

I was in town for a boy's baseball tournament. I called last minute to see if this establishment was able to accommodate the team and their parents for a team dinner. Doesn't look like much from the outside. We actually stumbled upon this place while vacationing in Wenatchee. WOW! Let me tell you I was NOT prepared for how large these dishes were. Easily could be split by two people. All three of us had left overs. I ordered steak Jalisco with shrimp, and while the steak was heavily fatty, it was absolutely flavorful and massive in size that I didn't complain about having that much excess fat(honestly probably where all the flavor comes from). I've had the camarones ala diabla and the sauce is delicious with quite the kick to it. Not the typical hot sauce-butter blend. But taste more home made. Props for that! Ive also reyes pollo al chipotle. Micheladas are good to accompany those dishes. Saltier that most places but good. Service could use some help as well as other dishes. You can tell the dishes are pre made and heated. One thing I can say to the manager/owner is, add more protein to the plates, most of them are just a few shrimp or a small piece of chicken and everything else is veggies. The front desk at our restaurant recommended El Agave. The atmosphere was cute, festive. The restaurant war clean, service was pretty good. The rice and beans were great. The rest of the food... meh. Pretty flavorless honestly. I've been here twice now and had the same experience both times. Tonight I chose the beef chimichanga. As flavorful as a poorly seasoned roast. Last visit I tried the enchiladas a la crema. Waaaaaay too much sour cream, not well seasoned. I really wanted to like it. Doubt I'll eat here again. read more
