My husband and I live in Catonsville and drive by this restaurant all the time. We finally decided to stop in. We have been looking for a great authentic Mexican restaurant with delicious Margaritas. El Agave is definitely a hidden gem. We had Margaritas, Buffalo Wings, and Shrimp Tacos. Everything was delicious. The Classic and Strawberry Margaritas were super delicious. We will definitely be going back. The prices were really reasonable and the staff was really professional and friendly. I recommend this restaurant! read more

The restaurant is dim and the service was a bit slow, but the food was delicious! We tried the jalapeño popper appetizer, chicken fajita, and tamales. The poppers were good and the chicken fajita was outstanding! My Mother had the tamales and she definitely enjoyed them. I thought they could've used a little more seasoning. This was my first time here. The margaritas were very good!! I recommend the mango! Food was pretty good. I had the El Trios which was chorizo, beek and chicken with rice cheese and beans. A very decent Mexican restaurant. I ordered the chicken El Agave Fajitas, and my friend ordered the Fajitas Mixtas, which contained sauteed chicken, beef, and shrimp. Both of them were savory and cooked well but it was a bit on the salty side. Good atmosphere as well. The best thing from this restaurant was the frozen mango margarita. When it first came out, it didn't look that good but when I tasted it, I immediately changed my mind. It tasted fresh and refreshing. This place is great. It is good Mexican food at a reasonable price. I checked off divey but that is in the best sense of the word... El Agave is about good food at a good value. The restaurant is clean and well lit but not fancy. The staff were attentive and worked together to make sure that everything about our meal was good. My wife and I had the fajitas and they were great. We will go back soon to explore the rest of the menu. They have $2 taco Tuesdays and all day happy hour on Wednesdays. That is called life! You have to pay attention to the area to find it but once you get it it's great. I came for lunch one day and the food was dreadful. The flavor was just bad. Not sure if the cook was off or if it was my taste buds. I didn't like anything I ordered. My co-workers seemed to enjoy the food. The staff were kind and quick. I didn't send the food back, it was a $1 or $2 taco special. read more

I recently came here for lunch with the team at work and enjoyed the food and service. I had the taco salad with beans, it looks like a small portion but was quite filling and tasty! My coworkers had burritos and chimichangas, all of them enjoyed their food and had enough to take some leftovers. The salsa that comes with the chips has a little bit of a kick if you're not into spicy food keep this in mind. We followed the meal with some Sopapillas which surpringly came drizzled with honey... I'm not a big fan of honey but it didn't bother me. Realistically, it's a good place for very casual occasions so I probably would't put this on the list for date night but great for a quick bite without having to resort to fast food! read more

I was overly excited to try yet another Mexican restaurant and to my delight I was not let down the food was packed with flavor! The salsa was delicious and being a brand new opened venue everything was new from the seats to the bar all sparkling with that new leather smell. I haven't had the opportunity to try happy hour but I will definitely be soon. P.s. I really like this place. And I want to return. I just moved back to the USA and to Baltimore. I was hungry for Mexican food and searched on Yelp, sorted by rating. This place came at the top. Although it was a bit of a drive, I came. The Al Pastor platter provided the spontaneous "happy food noises" required for any 5 star review. This place is a unique blend of neighborhood bar, big screen sports (including the Colombian vs. USA national baseball teams playing, on a Spanish language sports channel), a nice diverse Baltimore crowd, good drinks (the spicy Matgarita was excellent, the classic was a bit too Mix/chemical tasting, but not enough to knock my review off 5 stars), regulars who knew the people working here... in short, I will be back! read more

Who knew there was a great Mexican restaurant within stumbling distance of my house?! Not me, at least for the first 6 months they were opened. Craving a margarita one night, I turned to Yelp for advice, and now I'm busy making up for lost time . . . First of all, don't let the sketchiness of that whole corner deter you from going inside. There may be a few weirdos hanging around, but that's just Gwynn Oak for you. Nothing really dangerous; I've lived here happily for 10 years, with the occasional eyeroll over a group of young would-be hoodlums. Once you go in, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the warm and charming decor, friendly staff, and overall cleanliness and quality of the surroundings. It looks like a nice place to have dinner, and it is! Drinks are probably the low point, at least where margaritas are concerned. They're made from a mix, and while that's fine for the most part, I really wish they'd get with it and make up a few custom cocktails. In the meantime, I'll stick with Modelo. Their food is wonderful. Favorites are the shrimp ceviche, which comes with a huge chunk of avocado perfect for cutting up and enjoying with the salad; the pork chile verde, tender and meaty and spicy all at once; and the tamale trio, of which my favorite is the adobo chicken. Their nachos and burritos are pretty standard, but the ownership is truly Mexican, so if you stick with traditional Mexican entrees, you're guaranteed greatness! read more

I decided to treat myself to a lunch "out" today, rather than eating at my desk, and gave El Agave a try. I got there at about noon and was the only person there - by the time I left at almost 1, there were two other tables occupied. The TV was a bit loud for my taste, but the server seemed to be there by herself, so I won't begrudge her the entertainment. I ordered a margarita, which was fine. The drink menu is limited, but traditional, no complaints there. And it was made and served very quickly. For food, I had the nachos con queso, and the steak burrito. They claim on the menu that the queso is homemade, but that seems to mean that they mix a little jar salsa into the melted Velveeta themselves. The burrito had sat under a warmer too long by the time she brought it, so the tortilla was soggy, and everything inside and outside the burrito was extremely bland. The meat wasn't noticeably spiced, and the onions inside were cooked to within an inch of their lives. The Mexican rice lacked any seasoning, even salt, as did the black bean - they simply tasted watery. I don't eat out in this area much, so I can't say how El Agave compares to other restaurants near them. When I checked Yelp, there didn't seem to be many Mexican restaurants in this area at all. But given the choice of having Mexican here and eating at my desk, I'll likely choose eating at my desk from now on. read more

We got carry-out, but the place was hopping when I went to pick up the food. I got the veggie combo with a side of guacamole, and my husband got the combo #1. I really liked my veggie burrito--lots of jalapeño slices and very flavorful. My cheese enchilada was a little bland, but the guacamole was very good. My husband says his was "fine." I would definitely like to eat in sometime soon to get the full experience and to try more dishes. read more

A hidden little gem. Hard to find because there are two streets by same name but glad we didn't give up when one GPS gave wrong directions we used another app (visiting from Charlotte NC). This is an interesting little dive bar on the corner of Ingleside and Johnny cake Rd. I would've never noticed it if it hadn't have been for yelping. I've lived here for 10 years and have never even looked down that end of the street. Any who....I digress. The food is really good. I've had... This is a perfect little spot tucked away in the Woodlawn/Catonsville/Gwynn Oak area. I LOVE Mexican food and this place is literally around the corner from where I've lived for 20 years and my first time there was about 2 weeks ago. I would have never thought this place would have such good authentic Mexican food. The tacos were delicious as well as the fajitas. The icing on the cake was a perfectly mixed Margarita!! The service was a little slow but I will credit that to the cooks taking their time and making sure each dish was perfectly made. I've already referred others and I will be back...often! read more
