DONT EAT THE CHICKEN!! I got food poisoning a day after eating the chicken fajitas. I know I got sick after eating at El Alamo Cade because I hadn't eaten anything else besides the chicken fajitas. I did notice a undercooked piece of chicken while eating but I continued anyway... bad choice on my part. I feel bad writing this review but I wouldn't want anyone to feel as bad as I did. Mary's El Alamo in Hearne tx has some outstanding food. They have a nice menu selection to choose from. I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. It wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional either. Pretty bland, fajita meat was cold, kinda felt like it was left over from lunch. Enough cheese for one fajita. Tortillas were hard. Great find! Super clean with friendly fast service! I had the senior enchilada plate with a cheese enchilada, rice and charro beans. It was delicious and just the right size. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger. Beer is ice cold and served with a frosty mug! We will definitely stop here again! read more

Living in Hearne for all of 20 solid years, I have visited Mary's (as it is known to the locals) once a month. The food is Tex-Mex and a little more on the unauthentic side. That being said, it is still excellent food. This is one of the only few restaurants I go to that will bring you a soda can to pour yourself instead of a fountain. I think that sodas taste better this way. The salsa and queso are to die for and I can remember more than a few occasions having just ordered chips and queso to go. The enchilada platter is my favorite and is always hot and fresh. If you have room left, the peach cobbler with ice cream is to die for. The waitstaff is filled with young kids but is still above average for the town. It is a family owned restaurant and the owners are always there, whether a slow Monday lunch or a packed Friday dinner. read more

First off the service was friendly and fast! Our waitress, Vanessa, was great. The owner, Carmen, was a delight too! The food was delicious but most of all was their salsa and chips!!! Nearly brought me to tears! It reminds us of a salsa we ate years ago in Florida. The place closed and no more salsa....So when we tasted El Alamo's we felt we were home! Really bad food all around. The tortilla chips were flour, not corn. Watery bland salsa. They use processed American cheese food, not cheese, in their dishes. No one ate more than a few bites, and even so I've had awful stomach pains all afternoon. If it's a choice between eating here and going hungry, just go hungry. read more

Several things really stood out - tamale had a light smoke to the meat, and the masa was a perfect texture. The right cheese in the enchilada. Beans had been worked, but not pureed like the crap here in NTX, and they burst with flavor. The chips were light, fresh and grease-less, and the red hot sauce was home made. I'll be back. read more

Based on my first experience here, I give it a five star. I stopped here for lunch on my way from Ft Worth to Houston. You seat yourself and I was immediately greeted, brought some chips and salsa and a menu. I ordered water (with a lime) and the lunch special enchiladas with chicken. It comes with rice and your choice of refried or charro beans. (I picked charro beans and thought they were delicious.) The entire experience from the service to the meal was enjoyable. Lovely server, average food...but they only sale 8 sopapillas lol for 10$ per order. I was told it was impossible for them to simply cook 1 or 2 like every other restaurant in existence per order. How the hell am I supposed to eat 8 full size sopapillas...what kind of backwards logic is this? Salsa was not spicy but the chips were really good. Changed my 1 star rating to 3 because the owner was a really nice lady and agreed that they should fix the impossible sopapilla dilemma! Honestly at the end of the day my fat ass isn't going to starve of malnutrition! My grandmother lived in Hearne for many years and we stop back by this place when we're passing through. The food is pretty good, but the best thing about the place is the people. From the waitstaff that never forget your name to the longtime Hearne residents that can be found here, it's always neat to see who we'll run into. read more

Delicious and inexpensive. I come from San Antonio so good Mexican food is not expected in a small town like hearne. Their chips and salsa were homemade and very good. Tortillas are also home made which is a plus. If you find yourself in hearne, definitely stop by. read more

Good Mexican... I just had chicken quesadilla's. I just wanted something simple to take out. I did get chips and queso and the queso was just ok, but I absolutely loved their chips. They make a heavy think corn chip. That's enough to make me want to stop by here again if I'm ever in the area. The quesadilla was good, but not the best I had, it was kind of soggy. still had good flavor. I can't talk to how service was as I got my order to go. read more

The negatives are; salsa isn't even mildly spicy, lack of variety in meat, you don't get a bill (you just walk to the front and pay), and it isn't actual Mexican food. It's white people mexican food. There was no one heating in the that should have been a heads up. The waitress says you all have never eaten her before huh? 2nd heads up. Food was NASTY! No bill so the waitress says you just come to the register to pay. I stood there for over 5 minutes while the owner who was on a personal call to come ring me out. She just continued on her call until the waitress told her to please check me out. She comes up there charges me $22.00 for bean burritos and 1 ice tea. COme on what a joke. They were nasty to begin with. The owner then apologizes to the person she was talking to on the PHONE. If the owner treats her customers this way I can see why the restaurant was empty. I started eating in Mary's in 1999 when I was running for State Representative and I have never been disappointed . I eat there about 20 times a year when I am going thru Hearne. Love the restaurant, Love the Food and Love the family. My wife, Billie and I always order # 2 on the menu. That's Mary's Special. Its not called special for nothing. Chips and salsa are the best.
