We walked in and we were able to get a table right away. They came to take a drink orders and bring us chips and salsa.. The chips were nice and crispy and they were warm and the salsa was tasty. I like that the chips were not over salted. When the server came to take our order, she seemed to be confused by the fact that I could not eat sour cream and other people did not want guacamole. Which resulted in extra side orders of guacamole and a plate of sour cream. I ordered the barbacoa plate and my dining companion ordered the lingua. Unfortunately, the Barbacoa was not very good. It seemed a bit dry and did not have much flavor. Lingua was actually pretty tasty. It's a family place, I saw several families dining. Overall, I believe in second chances maybe if I ordered something different on the menu I would have had better experience. read more

stopped in on our way thru hearne. Food was ok. Not really anything special. I got screwed on the prices. I ordered ala cart taco (like $2.00) you can get rice and beans for .50 cents each so that's like $3.00. The waitress said she'd charge me for the kids plate cause it was cheaper. Ok whatever. I went to the bathroom right before we left and my husband paid so I never saw a receipt. Later that night my husband was saying how high it was and I asked to see the receipt, no receipt. He said they came around with the hand held computer thing . His plate and my daughters was like $13 each. We all got water and total was like. $38. No appetizers etc. I looked up their menu online and a kids taco plate with rice and beans is $8.29. How is that cheaper than $3.00. Plus kids plate came with a drink. Won't be back read more

Did not expect such a good meal as we were driving from College Station. The Aggie game was on, locals were watching and eating and the vibe was really good. I had the stuffed baked potato and Bae had nachos. I would definitely go back when I'm in the area. read more

We had planned to eventually visit Ama's some time, but we ended up there by default on that particular day since we found out that the restaurant we had originally planned to visit is closed on Sundays. We were SO very glad it worked out that way!! Everything we had at Ama's was excellent overall. I agree with the other reviews that some of the food lacked a little seasoning (specifically salt) but that is such an EASY FIX and nothing to really complain about in my opinion. It's so much better to add your own salt than to be served food that's too salty. We loved the chunky guacamole with perfectly made pico de gallo, and the combo fajitas with rice and beans. Chips and salsa were okay. The cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce may have been the best we've ever tried. The sauce was perfectly spicy. I wish I had that those enchiladas right now to be honest! The margaritas were great too. If Ama's wasn't three hours away, we would be visiting very often. Although I'm unable to recall her name right now, our server was great too! We will definitely stop by Ama's again on the next road trip out that way. read more

Salsa, chips, and queso are a great reason to visit AMA's!! The tea is great and they have the good ice. If you know, you know! I ordered the crispy chicken salad with ranch! It was really good...not just the bagged salad. Ranch is made in house. My son ordered a steak. We heard and saw others ordering steak so he thought he would try it!! It was great!! He really enjoyed it. The fries were just standard, frozen fries. We will definitely be back! read more

My service was good I requested if I may sit myself at the bar and they obliged. I had a Negro, Modelo Michelada preparrar ( Chamoy and tajin around the rim) comes in a nice big scooner. A little tangy a little spicy pretty good.. The salsa was decent, though, not as complex as other sauces I've had, but by no means bad a little bit of spice . I ordered the railroader plate which comes with two enchiladas of your choice and you can mix the type .. pretty good- the enchilada sauce was bomb. I ordered my steak to be medium rare, and it was pretty good flavor not tough or to Chewy . The rice was the only thing that let me down. It was a little soft and over cooked and lacking in flavor in my personal opinion. I also ordered the Charro beans. They had a nice flavor and we're spicy, but not overpowering. It was pretty empty when I went in which is nice so I didn't have to wait and I don't really like large crowds . I'll be staying at the hotel next-door for a few days so I'll definitely be back to try this place again read more

I ate there today with a party of 23. The food was good, but Lynette T, our server, was SUPERB! SHE WAS EXCELLENT! SHE WAS FAST, FRIENDLY, and the orders were ACCURATE! The prices are good and the venue is very clean. Easy highway access and I'm sure it is convenient for the people staying in the Holiday Inn next door. However, they have no concept of seasoning. The salsa with the chips was the only thing with flavor. The chicken Gonzalez was hearty but there was Zero flavor beyond the caramelized onion and chicken. The fajita street tacos were bland and maybe go with grilled onions. The service was fantastic and the I wanted to like the place, but most bland texmex I've ever had. EDIT: I spoke a little too soon and added a star. The sopapilla nachos and insanely good and very fresh. read more

Right next to the hotel we stayed at. Fri night - place was packed so we thought it must be pretty good. Service was great. We were not seated right away, they were very busy but it wasn't a long wait. However the Mexican food was just "ok". Chips and salsa great....good and hot! Service - better than average. Wait time - average. Margaritas - large but a little weak. Carne Asada had too much comino. Enchiladas...bland and too cheesy. Rice and beans were good. They had a variety on their menu - burgers, steaks, Mexican food, breakfast. They have a drive through. They just might be the best place in Hearne to eat without having to drive 30 mins to Bryan or College Station. Beats McDonalds! Correction: Husband had frozen Margarita and said his was "just right". I think the crushed ice in mine might have watered it down. read more

We stayed in the hotel next to this restaurant and it was good enough that we ate here two nights in a row. I got the ribeye fajitas one night and regular beef fajitas the second night. I preferred the ribeye fajitas the best. They have really good hot sauce and the charro beans we spicy and good! If we drive through we would stop and eat here again. read more

Delicious authentic chicken enchiladas with green sauce topped with white cheese! Fajitas were bite sized and grilled with cheese on top with mushrooms and caramelized onions. The chips and salsa were ok and I added lime and salt to the salsa for my favorite flavor. The kids quesadilla was generously portioned and our little guy loved it! Service was awesome! read more

We happened to be driving by and we saw how packed the restaurant was, so we decided to try it. My husband ordered barbacoa plate and I ordered Ama's Torta, and my husband said the Barbacoa was delicious and not greasy and his rice and charro beans were delicious. My Torta was excellent! The bread was very soft and fresh and my tomatoes were delicious in the Torta. My fries were perfect too. I loved the salsa, it had a good kick of heat and chips were also fresh ! The tea was fresh and delicious! We will definitely stop here on our way to Dallas next time! read more

History

Established in 2000.

Ama's was started with family recipes and heart. New ownership changed in April of 2017 when the past ownership decided retirement was calling their name. A business-family partnership between brother and sister was created and the rest is history. The siblings started with humble beginnings and were pushed to get educated and work hard. As an Aggie and an University of Mary Hardin-Baylor grad, both bring a fun rivalry to the restaurant's decor. The duo is supported by two of the most generous spouses (a school district clerk and a railroader) and four of the wildest, but precious, children.This family knows how hard it is to make dollar and they APPRECIATE you choosing to spend your hard-earned money with them. At the end of the day their goals are to have quality food, well-treated employees, and valued customers.

It is so nice to be able to get a fresh made sandwich when driving long-distance. I picked up a pack of Hatch chile kolaches on my way out because they freeze well and make a perfect breakfast on the go.

I had the chicken breast breast and my wife had the tuna sandwich, my chicken breast sandwich was OFF THE CHAIN. My wife said the tuna was very good, a stop by and must try on your way to Dallas or anywhere out this way!
