For some reason, I had to re-add this business to Yelp. I think it was because of the address change? I have picked up breakfast tacos for the family multiple times and we enjoy they every time! The tortillas are amazing, both flour and corn. There is usually a line of people picking up tacos every Saturday morning when I go. The chorizo, potato, egg, bacon and beans are the best toppings and I would not recommend the sausage. The salsa roja y verde are not the best but they get the job done. I wish they had more heat! HUGE shout out to Sydni for being so patient with the troublesome customers at the register. I've seen her deal with some rough folks... The manager is young and is always busy in the kitchen; she is very strict but admirable. I went there for the first time yesterday. The staff is so very friendly! Except for an older gentleman (possibly the owner?) who I spoke to twice and smiled as I greeted him whereas he...wasn't rude but wasn't friendly (he didn't smile or greet me back unlike the rest of the staff). The place was clean. Prices are reasonable. Portions are large. But...the food was a bit bland. It was lacking flavor. The refried beans were quite dry. The barbacoa was a bit dry and stringy (you really have to chew it as it was a little rubbery). I will go back again because the portions and price are good and try something different to give it a 2nd chance or to simply see the wonderful staff again. read more

IF you're going to go to this place, ONLY get take out tacos. Everything else is by far the worst you'll ever have. The service is absolutely terrible so don't dine in....unless you have an hour of your life to waste. Don't bother trying to order your take out ahead of time either, they'll either not answer or hang up on you when they do. The food is good... service was not so great. I went at opening one morning and the woman at the window proceeded to lecture me about ordering ahead so as not to cause a back up in the drive though. I went back two days later - this time I called ahead. 20 minutes for two breakfast tacos.... I arrive there are 3 cars in the drive though. So I tried to go in. That was a waste of time they have the entire inside blocked off due to COVID. I got back in line and waited 20 minutes to get to the window and another 10 to get my food. Not sure how ordering over the phone helped me much.... I really didn't appreciate the lecture. This could be managed a lot better if someone would love their order and pull forward. My husband and I have been coming here for years and the food is consistently great, the coffee amazing and the service fantastic! Don't be afraid of eating in a gas station. It's great, authentic Mexican food. There's one gal just hand-making tortillas. There's a reason these folks have been in business for 16 years. I will continue to support this mom and pop place. My go to place for REAL tacos in college Station, I work about a mile up the road from Garpez,the wait is very little, I usually call in my order and pick it up on my lunch break, their customer service is amazing, these girls are always friendly and always greet me with a smile! I definitely recommend them for breakfast and lunch, they are the only place I know in town that serves menudo daily! read more

First of all, I have never dine in a gas station so I was initially very hesitant to try out this place. But given the excellent reviews on the menudo, I convinced myself to visit. I was raised eating menudo and have had menudos from several cities in Mexico and California, so I guess you can say I am snobbish about my menudo. So when I received my menudo I was relief that the meat did not look nasty. It looked good. UNFORTUNATELY, it lacked flavor and spicies, I was dissapointed. Next time you go, try the chorizo, egg, and cheese breakfast taco if you haven't already. Very helpful and patient staff. Super friendly and clean. Unfortunately beans are not vegetarian...but really appreciate their telling me this. Other people would probably appreciate beans with bacon grease though. Enchilada sauce was fairly bland and unexciting. Rice was pretty good. As an experiment, I ordered the same breakfast tacos here I previously got at La Familia. The result: 1. I paid a little over $5 at La Famila, and roughly $9.00 here. 2. 60 cents of that was the illegal debit card fee they charge. 3. The tortillas were decent, but lesser quality than La Familia. 4. The tacos were noticeably smaller. Its not that they were bad. But the stark price difference here kind of makes it hard for me to go to one vs. the other now for my breakfast taco fix. read more

This placed used to be a lot better, but it has gone down hill very quickly. When the mom was there, it was my favorite restaurant in CS. However, the decline has to do with the son taking over the business. When the mom was there, it was great. The soup was good, portions decent and very fair prices. Now everything went up and the plates are quite small. The son was pretty rude to my gf when she asked for some chips to go. Haven't been back since. The very limited hours (only during lunch) make this quite an impossible task for most people. Also, it makes me feel bad to see 8 year old children waiting on the tables. read more

We have been going to this little family owned Mexican restaurant for many years and really used to love it. Things have changed hower since the original owners retired and a younger crew took over. I am sad to say that we will not be going back there anymore because the food is so overly salted, something that never used to be the case before but this is the 3rd time we experienced this. The taco meat was way to salty, the rice and the beans were as well, don't know who is doing the cooking, but who ever it is either loves very salty food themselves or they don't taste what they are cooking and are just dumping the salt in. The chips are very greasy and thick and you get only a small amount of them for an extra cost with a small little dish of salsa which used to be home made and used to taste fantastic, but even that has changed, it doesn't taste like home made to me. One other thing, the food is expensive for the amount you are getting, we were very disappointed in our dining experience and will no longer recommend this place to anyone unless things will change. read more

Wow! A restaurant that really knows how to make people's day start off on the bad side. But I will turn it around and it's going to be a positive day! Garpez can not ruin my day. There are always other places to dine. :-) This is a restaurant that I have dined at on a regular basis for the last 12 years, and absolutely love their breakfast tacos over any other in town, has just caused me, a regular customer, to decide that Fuego's will be my restaurant of choice for breakfast now! This morning I had wanted tacos for breakfast from Garpez Authentic Mexican Food located at 2601 Harvey Rd College Station, TX. They have a sign on their window that they charge a service fee, but if you use a credit card or pay with cash that fee is waived. I paid with my debit/credit card and was charged this fee. I questioned it and was told because I used the debit card the fee would be applied. I explained, while being interrupted many times by the owner/manager, that I was never given the option to use it as a credit card, but they automatically used it as a debit, which I never do and don't know how they did without asking for my pin. So I asked them to cancel it and handed them a card which is only a credit card to apply it to. The owner, very rudely, said I will just refund your money. And his daughter took my food back. This was not the outcome that I was looking for nor did I ask for. The owner coming back asking for my signature of the cancellation said "I hope your day gets better." I informed him that I would be posting a comment regarding this on his business pages. He said, anybody that knew me would know that I was in the wrong. WOW! I guess that I will never suggest this place to any out of town visitors or local people that I may come across again, and I did, ALL OF THE TIME. Garpez hates white people! Yet again I watch the ladies at the counter give away free hot sauce to hispanics and then charge me for it. This is not the first time I have witnessed bias from the Garpez employees. They are far more nicer and kind to hispanics than they are to white people.
