This place has authentic food BUT this last visit was horrible. I should have turned around when we smelled the place. It smelled like a dirty bathroom in the entire restaurant. This place is not clean and if we don't get sick it will be a miracle. The service was horrible but the food was okay. Even though the food was okay I will NEVER eat here again...waitress was rude and the place was dirty. And my feet stick to the ground when walking....bleach and some elbow grease would go a long way.

    Veggie Burrito, Beans, and Rice

April 2021 - I found this place on Yelp. We had a basket of chips and two types of salsa. The hot salsa was excellent! I had a Veggie Burrito with rice and beans. The burrito was enough food for two people. The burrito was stuffed with rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. The hot sauce on the table is made by Tapatio and added a lot of flavor. My wife had a small beef quesadilla. All of the food was excellent and the service was quick. The prices were very reasonable. The only negative is that there is no detailed receipt. We look forward to returning soon.

Combo plate. Tamale, taco, enchilada. It was tasty.

Would I come back...? Maybe after trying the other places in town. I'm a stranger passing through looking for Mexican food. I ordered the combo with tamale and taco and enchilada. It was good. Nothing special. Not bad. Just good. Refried beans and yellow rice. My Dad had the chimi. He seemed to like it. Good flavor of meat he said. The chips were yellow corn chips from a bag in the dollar section of Walmart and not good. As far as chips go. I've had much better. Tue pico was bland. Mostly tomato's and the salsa was mild at best. Not great and I'm a picky salsa connoisseur. The Horchata however was really good. Overall, it was worth the price and cheaper than some other places maybe, the service was impossibly fast and the food was just good. I'm not disappointed. Well maybe a little in the chips and salsa.... See attached photos for more.

Looks like we need to find a new spot. The menu has changed and the prices are up yet they charge for every extra thing.

I would have enjoyed the lovely patio, but it also looked like it was about to rain! Our server was very nice and gave some excellent recommendations. Instead of chips and salsa, we were served their potato flautas. It was a nice change of pace. I usually fill up on chips and salsa and can't finish my main entree. For the table, my brother ordered a house special entree - Mariscada Valero's - which is a variety of sautéed seafood served with tortillas. It was perfect for sharing with our four person group. For my main dish, I ordered the skirt steak tacos with coconut rice on the side. I love coconut and I love rice. Who knew they go together so well! The skirt steak was cooked perfectly. I had my leftovers for breakfast and the skirt steak was still tender! I did try the lobster tacos (my sister-in-law's favorite). They were yummy - although a bit spicy. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it! Overall, we were really happy with everything. I will definitely make it a point to come here on my next visit!

Waited 10 minutes before she approached. She didn't know the drink menu and we waited more than 20 minutes for her return. Then we noticed why. Not only is she waiting tables, she's acting as bartender for her tables, as were the rest of the servers. We found out later that it's the owner's idea to not have a dedicated bartender. Absolutely ridiculous. After she dropped our drinks she took off to a different table. Can we order appetizers? She finally returned, took the app order and then went back to her bartending duties. Cutting to the chase...after we ate our entrees she finally checked back. Way too late to address our concerns about the food. About the menu...way overpriced for what was offered for marginally tasting food. Asked her to divide the check by 3 charging the two couples and the single what was ordered. Big mistake as she tried several times to get it right. Overall it was a bad experience and will not return. Too many options in Valparaiso to settle for this disappointment.

Taco Tuesday will never be the same for these Chicago guys who love good tacos and Lucha Libre…read more Life is God. Family. Tacos. Lucha Libre. Santo Tacos is the new temple of tacos. We drove a long way to get there and we were - initially - put off by the appearance. It kind of looks like a strip mall fast food joint appropriating the Lucha Libre legend El Santo. We walked in - not expecting much and walked out full of great food and great company. This is a must visit for Lucha fans and taco lovers. My last Birria taco was in Puerto Rico at a little hole in the wall that made their name on Birria tacos. I decided to see if this little joint in Valparaiso could compete. I warned Chantal (our server and occasional photographer) that I had high hopes for the Birria. She was unfazed. She knew. She was confident. We started with a nacho plate with salsa and guacamole and warm cheese sauce. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We stuffed out faces as we marveled at the décor. We discussed who was who in which poster and which masks were in our personal collections. When Chantal brought the three tacos to the table, it was clear to see they were of the highest quality, perhaps even better than Puerto Rico. The spices were blended perfectly. The meat was moist and the tortilla was soft where it needed to be and crunchy where it was supposed to be. Fresh food always elevates the dining experience. This food was all fresh and well prepared. I have been having bad luck with smoked jalapenos lately so I only ate half of it. It was also quite good, but I know the danger that lurks in a smoked jalapeno. My buddy got a burrito - it was a monster. He and I have eaten many Mexican dinners before or after a Lucha Libre show. He tends to eat with moderation. Not this time, he destroyed that burrito talking between bites about how good it was. We had Chantal take some pictures around the restaurant at various spots. We're two corny old guys having fun with our hobbies (tacos and Lucha Libre). She was very patient and accommodating - doing everything in her power to get the best pictures she could for us. When the service is five star and the food is five star - the only problem is the distance. We will be back - of course - but sadly not every Tuesday as we'd like.

In terms of ambiance, the staff was cleaning and the TVs were old (poor quality) and had nothing of interest on. I ordered the poyo taco (loved) and the alambre (hated - the steak was so chewy. I know it's skirt steak, but this was not edible). I also ordered the churros; which were fine. It may be worth going back and ordering something different, but you can also get a taco just about anywhere.
