food i returned to the restaurant with pop after firstly visiting solo to redeem the promo offer for the yelp experience event. on that first visit, the worker told me the arepa sandwich with shredded beef, cheese, and plantain was the most popular kind on the menu, and having got cheese only the first go, i'd decided to get that most popular sandwich on the second visit, and pop did the same. also, the same worker promised to get me 2 tequeños the next visit, and fulfilled that promise by delivering 2 fresh, crunchy, and steamy venezuelan cheese sticks with a creamy dipping sauce that i and pop each enjoyed. the tequeños served as the perfect snack during the filling arepa meal, and the passionfruit agua fresca drink pop got for me was tasty indeed. service excellent, ideal timing in delivery of tequeños soon after sandwiches, and precise, extensive menu knowledge on display in tandem with patience in customer interaction. ambiance very vibrant, table by window and sunshine created bright ambiance that particular day. pop liked the baseball mural i'd noticed from first visit. i'd recommend coming during the day, especially a sunny one, for dining in the restaurant, and at night for pickup food to see the wall art even more distinctively. i had not taken pictures of second visit to the restaurant, but am leaving pics below from first visit for reference read more

Still one of my favorites in all of Tulsa! Over the last year or so they've made some major upgrades too! With a beautiful renovation inside featuring beautiful art and mural on the wall, it's a wonderful choice for a sit down lunch - especially since most everything seems to be made to order. They also now offer online ordering which makes picking up/carry out easier than ever! With how hot the food comes out, it retains heat quite well and is still warm by the time I get to where I'm going. The patacon is a fried plantain sandwich with cabbage, lettuce, tomato, ham, cheese, pink sauce, and chicken or shredded beef. If you like plantains, you have to try this sandwich. Its very unique; I haven't seen it elsewhere, and so delicious on top. For some reason, I got chicken instead of beef but I think the person at the counter didn't get the order correctly. Nevertheless, the chicken was great. I didn't try the other 3 dishes but that just gives me another reason to come back. With El Arepaso, coming back is a piece of cake. The food..... I have found my Venezuelan soul food meal at El Arepaso Venezuelan Café, the "Pepito." When I saw the picture of that beef sandwich covered in "potato stix," I was pulled in. It was no disappointment. Tender lean chopped steak, lettuce, onion, cheese, bell pepper, some of every kid of sauce they have, and of course potato stix! The sandwich is put in a press, smashing the soft sub style bun to about a quarter of an inch thick; finished with a toasty crust. An explosion of flavor. The best Venezuelan food item I have eaten. You will throw rocks at a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, once you have had this. I hoovered it up! My wife went for the Pabellon Empanada. A boring looking fried pie thing. How deceptive. It was another phenomenal Venezuelan food item. Shredded beef, plantains, black beans, cheese, wrapped in a thick handmade corn tortilla, deep fried, served with a perfect avocado flavored sauce on the side. My wife raved about how good it was, while she was eating it, and all the way home! You may know that checkered flag in car racing means "the end of the race." It's over. So far this is the only Venezuelan restaurant I have come across that is open on a regular schedule . Flavors are on point, but prices are a little expensive imo. I like the arepas the best. The tequeños are good but not the best tequeños is I have tried. The establishment itself needs a little help with the looks, but I like that everything is very fresh. I personally like my plantains more ripe, unless I am having tostones. They have a long menu and I must admit I have not tried the desserts nor the empanadas. I found this looking for new places, and I had no idea Tulsa had Venezuelan restraints. I decided I had to try it. I had the Arepa Pabellon, Tequeños, Flan Quesillo, and Maltin Polar delivered on Doordash. Everything tasted very good, though I wish the beef were more flavorful. The Tequeños and Quesillo were absolutely delicious. The Tequeños were light and cheesy, and full of flavor. I expected them to be greasy, but they weren't at all. The Quesillo was rich and creamy, but simultaneously light and airy. I didn't really like the Maltin Polar, but that's not the fault of the restaurant. I was hoping it would taste like root beer and, in a way, it did, but it also had a medicinal flavor that was a combination of sour and sweet. That's the best way I can describe it. I'm sure many others would and do like it, but it just wasn't for me. I'll happily be back to try more items. read more

I found out the empanada uses cornmeal while the pastelito uses flour, making it crunchier than the empanada. The empanada is huge and very savory with some sweetness with the pulled meat, beans, cheese, and plantain. The arepa was pretty good too! The tequeños are okay, probably won't get them again. We tried the shredded beef arepas, and they were wonderful. If you've never had one, it's basically a sandwich with seasoned shredded beef and asiago cheese between two thin pieces of lightly fried corn-type bread. We've had it several times since, and have decided the one with beef, black beans, and plantains (arepa pabellon)is our favorite. We decided to come here on a weekend because we wanted to try some authentic Venezuelan cuisine, and it did not disappoint! Inside is a small restaurant with a few tables, but it is decorated with several pictures and ornaments on the walls. Everyone was very friendly inside and was speedy with service. We started off with the Caldo de Res, which is a beef soup served on weekends. The broth was hearty and delicious and had tender and juicy chunks of beef mixed with various vegetables. We then had the Patacon, which is a huge sandwich with slices of friend plantains instead of bread. The sandwich was stuffed with lettuce, cabbage, tomato, cheese, ham, pink sauce, and your choice of chicken or shredded beef (we went with chicken). It was very filling and yummy, definitely enough for a meal in and of itself. Venezuela, along with Colombia and other parts of South America, is known for their Arepas (a type of flatbread made from cornmeal), so we had to pick one as well. We went with their amazing Arepa de Pabellon which consisted of shredded beef, black beans, and fried plantain. It came with a dipping sauce that was equally as flavorful. We preferred the empanadas more than the pastelito but I think that was just our preference with dough. The pastelito was crispier and fried. Both the shredded chicken and shredded beef had amazing flavors, either is a good choice. The best arepa was by far the one with beef, beans, and plantain (de pabellon). We tried El Arepaso a few weeks ago. It is located in a strip center at 81st and Yale, so it is a rather small place. The owner was working the counter on this day and was very helpful explaining the menu. We both ordered the Arepa de Pabellon as we had eaten something similar in Miami years ago. He thanked us for giving them a try and explained that his wife was the cook who would be preparing our meals. The food was delivered to our table after maybe a 10 minute wait. The presentation was nice as the plate contained shredded beef, rice, black beans and a few slices of fried plantain. I thought the portion size was a little small for the price we paid, but the food was good and reminiscent of what we had before. I'm sure we will be back to try some other offerings.
