Gotham Bagels has a couple of locations around the downtown Chicago area. My husband and I happened to stop in for a hardy breakfast before exploring Michigan Avenue. The inside connects to the Gino's East next door but had enough seating for about 15ish people. The staff takes orders quickly and turns over food within 5-10 minutes. I ordered the Bacon Egg & Cheese sandwich on an Asiago Bagel. The egg was definitely the most prominent flavor. I wished the bacon was a little more evenly laid out and a bit more included. The sandwich itself was a bit more greasy than I was expecting as well but portion was huge! My husband got the Everything bagel with lox spread and thoroughly enjoyed his. Great NY style bagel! The line was pretty long but they had a kiosk to order from as well, and the wait wasn't too bad, but because it's a very small little storefront, it felt a bit crowded. Extra seating upstairs too. I goofed up and thought I was getting an egg sandwich, but all their ingredients are written out, and so if it doesn't say egg, it doesn't come with an egg hahaha. The restaurant is very small and filled with wall to wall people. The bagels were honestly some of the best I've ever tasted from a bagel spot before. A pretty damn good bagel if I do say so. Not the cheapest in town but actually large enough and really fresh enough to make it work the roughly 17 bucks I paid for a breakfast bagel. Fresh out of the oven bagel and quality ingredients on the sammy made it worth the price. It was quickly prepared too. Even the bagel and a smear i tried on another day was fresh with a huge smear and worth the 6 bucks. Great spot for a New York style bagel in Chicago. I have come a few times for a basic toasted bagel and spread and all the flavors have been delicious. This time I opted for a bigger sandwich. It was delicious! Definitely one of the more expensive bagels I have had, but it had great flavor and was HUGE. My only complaint is that the fried chicken on it was lacking in some flavor and was steamed in the bagel so it lost its crunch. This tells me that: They like to listen to music while working/eating, people like to stop and eat vs. take food and go, and people really like the bagels here.
