Got the The Good Eater, which comes with 3/4 lb Pastrami/ corned beef Reuben on multigrain bread. This sandwich was HUGE and honestly really solid. The meat was super tender, the mustard had great flavor, and the multigrain bread was toasted perfectly. The pastrami was definitely the better meat for me, but both were good. Only downside is the sandwich gets soggy over time, so you definitely wanna eat it fresh right away. Vibes were pretty normal casual deli vibes, nothing crazy. Service was nice though and the girl helping us was smiling the whole time which made the experience feel welcoming. read more

Was super excited to try this place, and finally came to pick up some bagels. The inside is very cute, old-school vibes, with a few small tables inside. It's located in a busy part of River North with minimal parking options but I do believe they have 1 or 2 parking spots in the parking lot they share with the motel. It gets pretty busy on the weekend so I'd recommend going early or be prepared for a line. Ordered online the night before to take to a friend's for brunch. When I arrived to pick up my order, disappointingly, I was told that part of my order wasn't available because they hadn't been set aside in the morning. They offered to replace it with a different flavor and add a free schmear, but I'll admit I was super annoyed. I ended up getting some everything bagels to make some lox sandwiches with. Unfortunately the bagels were very mediocre (a step or 2 above a store bought bagel). I like my bagels chewy and moist, but these were dry and too fluffy for my taste. And weirdly enough, they were salty yet didn't have a very strong everything bagel flavor. To be fair, Chicago is severely lacking in good bagels, so not sure if I should fault Schneider's for that, or wherever they source their bagels from. Either way, I hope they get their online ordering system straightened out. read more

First of all, I loved that the guy that answered the phone taking my order connected that it was me coming to pick up my order. The line was pretty busy and I was outside for a little bit in the warm sun. It was my first time and felt like a good indicator of a tasty popular spot. I got the pastrami sandwich on a hoagie with lettuce and tomatoes. I also picked up the local Chicago chips which we are a huge fan of. It was a sandwich that hit the spot! We will definitely be back and excited for this place to be around as this building has had a few other business turnovers in the past. read more

I came across Schneider Deli while on the search for a place that does a decent lox bagel. Based on the photos I was instantly hooked and needed to try the lox bagel. On the website it's listed as a fish bagel sandwich with the option to select nova, gravlax, or smoked whitefish salad. I recommend the bagel with nova smoked salmon. The lox bagel was priced on par for the River North area which means it was a little pricer. It's priced at $16 but it comes with a fair amount of the smoked salmon. I ended up being able to share half of the sandwich with my husband and still feel full afterwards. The restaurant is located conveniently on Lasalle and Ohio right next to the Ohio House Motel. The inside of the restaurant was sizable enough for a few tables of smaller parties of 4 (or less). The inside seems to be a mix of souvenir items, grocery shop, and restaurant. They have a lot of the classic jewish deli classics such as Dr. Brown's soda and loafs of challah. The lox bagel itself was just okay. I've had a ton of lox bagels throughout the city and it wasn't anything to phone home about. I do appreciate they give you a ton of smoked salmon so you can easily get two meals from your order. The next time I visit I'll try a different bagel to see if it has a little more flavor. The bagel mainly just needed a little rock salt to add flavor. Overall, the vibe was cool and I can see myself visiting again. read more

Stopped into Schneiders on a Sunday morning -- overall, I had a good experience. Ordering was easy since you just order at the counter and they bring your food out to your table if you're eating there. I had the nova lox bagel and it was big but it did not blow me away. The bagel was maybe a bit too doughy for my liking. I would come back to try something else but I don't think I would do the lox again. read more

I don't usually stay in the River North area but I happened to be for a recent work trip. A quick Yelp search popped Schneider Deli onto my radar as I was looking for breakfast near the hotel. I was so excited to find that they had egg bagels- everything egg, but I'll take it! I ordered a breakfast sandwich on Toast -- with turkey sausage, cheddar and egg on an everything egg bagel. It was tasty and filling! Also, my order was ready when they said it would be. I also added 2 everything egg bagels because why not. They had some AMAZING sounding cream cheeses like Giardinera CC as well as a Toffee Apple CC?! Also, their sandos sound delish too! The space itself is fairly small with some counter/bar as well as table seating but it's SUPER charming. read more

I've been meaning to make this review. This is a very chill place to eat. Super cozy and the vibes are nice. I like the music that they play. It was my first time having this kind of food served at a restaurant and it was really good! I got the Matzo Ball Soup, Turkey Sandwich, and Latkes with Apple Sauce and Sour Cream. The service was good too, the main thing I enjoyed was the view and the watching the city as you eat. This was my first time at Schneider Deli, and we stopped in because I was craving a bagel for breakfast and it was close to our hotel. It's a cute little hole-in-the-wall spot with just a few tables and some bar seating. The vibe is very authentic with an old-school deli feel, which I really loved. I ordered the traditional lox, which they call a "fish bagel," and it was so good I ate the entire thing. The flavors were spot-on and really hit the craving. The only downside was that there was way too much cream cheese. I ended up scraping off about half of it just to balance things out. My husband got a breakfast sandwich on a pretzel bagel. The sandwich itself was delicious, but the pretzel bagel was extremely salty--so much so that he couldn't really eat it as is. He tried scraping the salt off the top, but since it was baked in, it didn't help much. He ended up eating the sandwich without the top half of the bagel. Even with those small issues, I still really liked this place and would absolutely go back. Next time, I'll know to order less cream cheese, and we'll skip the pretzel bagel and stick with a classic bagel instead. The staff was friendly and energetic, which made the experience even better. Very solid bagel spot!! I was visiting chicago and a friend recommended we check this place out for breakfast one day. It's very tiny inside so we took ours to go, just fyi. I split a lox bagel and a sausage egg and cheese bagel with a friend. The sausage egg and cheese was delicious but the lox was my favorite with how refreshing and savory it was! The bagels were perfectly made and really felt like New York style bagels. Overall, 10/10 recommendations! read more

The shop is in a corner with very old school decor, wish I stayed for the vibe! Ordered a fish bagel and it did not disappoint. Tasted good and had a good amount of fish inside. $16 sounds pricey for a bagel but I think the price was on par with other places that sell lox bagels. It was easy and quick to order. read more

I got a corned beef Sandwhich to go and they didn't put any mustard on it. WTF? That should be standard. Or at least include it in the bag. Nada. Bubkas. Zilch. Got home to my desk to find I had a dry ass sandwich for lunch. The rye bread was good, but the corned beef was thick and chewy. The door was left open for a flowing breeze to draft into Schneider deli on a crisp Spring day in Chicago. Classic hits lined the background of the establishment, and sunny rays shone through the windows to light up the foreground. The cashier was polite and had a great smile. It was a quite-friendly seeming type of deli. The location is on the smaller side with half-a-dozen or so tables, a small counter-serve area, and a bathroom downstairs. The pastrami Reuben on rye was quite good overall. Some bites of the pastrami I found to be a touch on the dry side, but this was easily assuaged by some of the deli mustard left in squeeze bottles at each table. Schneider deli was a very pleasant experience that I would not be surprised to find myself enjoying again in the future. read more

A lot of money for a little food......went here for breakfast today, and had the corned beef hash and eggs.....it was mostly potatoes with a few pieces of corned beef in it, flavorless, and overpriced. Further, $4.50 for 2 eggs....I can purchase a dozen for that price. My wife had the egg and cheese sandwich, which for $13, was OK, but nothing special to write home about. Unless you are into an overpriced breakfast I was pretty much not impressed. Definitely will not be returning. Had to downgrade the rating after hearing from the owner. His arrogance started with asking me if I have ever ran a restaurant, and how I was qualified to question his terrible prices. His indication was he would give me a refund if I removed the review. I am a man of integrity, and will not be bribed to change my opinion of the substandard and overpriced experience. I would suggest others do the same. read more

Got pastrami, egg, and cheese on Kaiser for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was pretty good and nice size portion. Not the best pastrami I've ever had but good flavor. Ambiance was as if a new restaurant was trying to look like an old restaurant although not in an overly tacky way. One downside, it was incredibly Smokey inside when I was there. I was only inside for about 15 mins but my clothes and shirt stink of smoke after leaving. They need a lot better ventilation Service was fine, order at the counter and they bring the food to you. read more

I see this spot while driving all the time & decided to stop in for a late weekday breakfast. I ordered a bagel sandwich with hot giardiniera cream cheese & veggies, and it was hands-down one of the best bagels I've had in a long time. The bagel itself was fresh, perfectly toasted, and had just the right balance of crunch and chew. The bagels are totally customizable. With the variety of bagel flavors, cream cheeses, & toppings I truly feel like there is something for everyone. The staff was friendly and worked quickly, even though the place was bustling. It's clear they care about the quality of their food and the experience they give their customers. Schneider Deli also has two parking spots in the parking lot of Ohio house motel. My god, the pastrami Reuben is so freaking good. Juicy and full of flavor, one bite and you're transported to meat heaven (I did get 1/2 lb). GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE! When I come back to Chicago the first thing I want to eat here is the pastrami sandwich. It was so delicious that it's the best pastrami I've ever had. Where I'm from we don't have anything like this, so this place is special to me now. I hope when I come back, the first place I'll be stopping at is here. They were also really busy so we decided to take it to go. My husband and I were fine with that plus we got our order fast! I also witnessed a traveler with their suitcase and the girl who was taking orders offered her to put her suitcase away for her so it wasn't bothering the traveler when she was eating. Kind people, efficient service, and out the door with an excellent deli sandwich. Bought the pastrami on rye and the corned beef on rye. Came wrapped like a perfect origami gift with the most delicious homemade pickle in a separate fold. The meat was real. Carved. Not deli wrapped in plastic then later shaved on a slicer. Not that at all. On the side was coleslaw and mustard to build later. And build we did. On the train ride back to Michigan. I will always stop here. I want to try their tuna salad. Heard that recipe was special with chopped pickles that make it a repeat order. read more

This place reminds me of the deli in my grandmother's old eastern European neighborhood. The bread was fresh, the meat was piled high and I could taste the heat from Eunice's brisket every time I took a breath. They put a lot on your plate, so don't feel bad if you take some of your sandwich to go. Expect to pay downtown Chicago prices. My sandwich and a soda was roughly $23. read more

We ordered food for pick up to avoid the long lines stated in some of these reviews. To our surprise, there was no wait at all on a Saturday at around 10ish. We got 2 sandwiches. I agree that it was weird the initial price does not include the bagel but just the eggs so as you built your bagels, you got to the end price. It ended up being around 16-17 dollars each for a bagel with eggs with pastrami and cheddar and a bagel with eggs with beef hash and cream cheeses. They were both very good and definitely hit the spot. We liked the beef hash more as there wasn't enough pastrami to really appreciate it on the bagel. read more

Get the egg bagel. Had the egg and cheese with Munster and added hashbrowns. It was delicious but it was missing something. Some sort of sauce would take it to the next level. It's a $12 sandwich and you get a good bang for your buck. It's a tiny spot but they have a few tables. Takeout is the way to go. They have two spots where you can park at the attached motel lot. read more

I stopped by Schneider deli before heading to the airport to go home. I picked up the salmon gravlax bagel and as they had a board that listed the cream cheeses and types of bagel for that day. I ate it there and ordered a pastrami sandwich to go for the flight. This was the best decision I would make all day! Lining up to order was simple and I was greeted with a friendly smile. They have turned a normal bagel shop into steamed, stuffed bagel sandwiches on steroids. The sandwiches have crazy names, interesting flavor combinations, over-stuffed and are not shy on ingredients. The menu is divided into numerous different meats, vegan options and breakfast selections. CBA's space is very tight with a robust take-out service. There are a few tables but CBA is more of an order, grab and go. We ordered the Belmont, a steamed bagel with smoked ham, maple sausage, chive cream cheese, jalapeno, egg, Gouda and pepper jack cheese. It was served hot, tasty and "over-stuffed" with ingredients. The orders here take time due to the volume they serve. One could order a different sandwich each day over 2 months and never have the same sandwich. Chicago Bagel Authority is killing the bagel sandwich market in the Lakeview area. Even though the wait is longer, the flavors and taste are well worth it. If everything was 10% more like toppings wise this would be amazing, but they always seem to skimp on something whether it's the schmear, pickels, salad. I feel like i was haggling for my meal sometimes. Prices area little high for most items, but of great value for others. It's busy in the mornings, but lines move long and only once did I have to wait for a fresh batch of anything despite some large orders ahead of me. It's a 20 minute train ride, but worth it.
