They manage the line and let a few people in at a time. We ordered at the counter, and the workers were super friendly and helpful. We ordered a couple of sandwiches for my daughter and her friend. They were out of vegan cream cheese, so they suggested avocado for my daughter's, and she loved it. My gluten free sister in law got their GF bagel with blueberry cream cheese. They can't guarantee there won't be cross contamination with the toaster, but she decided to risk it. She said it was the best GF bagel she has ever had. She ended up going back to grab some more on her way out of town. We also ordered half a dozen bagels to go and toasted them at our hotel. Overall I liked them but I wish they wouldn't have put fennel on the everything bagel. The bagels are huge. If you get a sandwich, you can probably share. Tilly's in South Loop is a solid maybe for me. Service was quick and friendly, the place was packed when I went in but the staff handled the rush well and got everyone through in a reasonable amount of time. The shop itself is really clean too, always a plus. Food was a mixed bag. The bagels themselves were so soft. Definitely the best bagel sandwich I've ever ate! I ordered delivery due to the line always being so long here. I got the bacon egg and cheese bagel on a cacio e pepe bagel with caramelized onion cream cheese. The egg was so fluffy and the flavors of the bagel and cream cheese complimented eachother so well. There were a ton of toppings but i do wish there was more cream cheese. I also got the chicago bagel and iced coffee. The coffee was very average nothing special. The Chicago bagel was not my thing. It had so much seeds and the second you picked it up they went everywhere. When you are chewing all you taste is seed. Not complaining though i wanted to try something new. Overall the breakfast sandwiches here are where its at! There is a reason why this place sells out and has a line out the door. I would suggest ordering online for delivery to avoid that. Bottom line: Huge and delicious portions, super messy but worth it, and don't trust the projected wait time if you order online. I grabbed Tilly's as my last meal before heading home from Chicago. Reviews suggested ordering online to avoid the inevitable wait (this is a popular place!) but that backfired on me. The projected wait time showing as I put in my order was 20-25 minutes, which would have been fine. After I completed my order, the pickup time jumped to an hour, which was plus have made me late for my flight. I called the store and explained my predicament and they switched me from the online cue to the in person cue, which was in fact only 20 minutes. I was thankful for the flexibility. I'm grateful to live nearby to a good, local bagel spot. I visited on a weekend morning after having a craving for a lox bagel. The price ($16) seemed fine considering, and it didn't seemed too slammed. My wait after ordering in-person was about 5 minutes, versus the 50+ minutes that was quoted to order online. The sandwich was HUGE, but actually pretty good; my mental note for next time would be to request less cream cheese but otherwise, on par for a lox bagel. I ordered two other bagels to go, cheesy garlic and garlic rosemary. For both, I really couldn't taste the garlic because the other noted ingredients overpowered it. I went during my 10am break on a Monday. It was steady with customers and the line was about 4-5 deep also with a few people sitting and standing waiting for their orders. The place is not very big but has a handful of seats and stand up options. Very good quality bagels. I got the #1 with bacon, sausage, egg and chive and bacon cream cheese on a Chicago bagel. Also got a cacio e pepe bagel with chive and bacon cream cheese too because why not? lol they do a bagel of the day which looked like flamin' hots on the outside and had a variety of other bagels that I was interested in trying out for next time. Looking for a classic bagel spot (and one close by), we turned to Tilly's to satisfy that craving and they did not disappoint. We got there right at opening and were first in line; by the time they opened there were about 5-6 other people waiting behind. As with any downtown spot be aware of parking being spotty but this is well worth a trip. We were let inside the exact minute the store opened and the inside was sleek and clean. We ordered a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and a caccio e pepe bagel with carmelized onion cream cheese and a coffee. Ordering was smooth and the staff were very friendly, seeming to actually enjoy working there quite a bit. They put milk and syrups on the side for any coffees so be advised, if you make a bad cup of coffee then that's on you. They also have a water cooler out for you to grab a cup if you just want that. We got our bagels pretty quick and were so excited to dive into them. Both bagels were crisp and soft like a bagel should be. The plain bagel and plain cream cheese combo is a classic that they got down right. The cacio e pepe bagel with the caramelized onion spread was a unique taste, extremely savory with the cheesy flavor of the bagel coming through well. We ate our bagels pretty quick and were happy with what we ate, but will admit we weren't blown away. The verdict? Tilly's definitely makes a good bagel. Good enough where if you're in the area you should come out to it and see what it's about. In comparison to other bagels we've had it stacks up decently, but again doesn't stand out amongst the best. Thank GOODNESS the south loop got a decent bagel shop (and dare i say one of the best in the city!) My favorite type of bagel is a lox bagel, and Tilly Bagel does an amazing lox bagel (and it's packed with salmon). They have a good variety of cream cheeses as well as bagel flavors. I also really like how they have a rotating 'bagel of the week' flavor. Definitely come here during a weekday if you can (virtually no lines/ small line) vs the weekend when the line goes outside the building (but usually service is fairly quick). Inside there are also a few tables for dine-in seating if you can snag one. Come here for the bagels; can't really recommend the coffee because it's just okay. I finally tried Tilly's in the South Loop after wanting to go for a while. Every time I passed by, there were lines out the door, so I figured it had to be really good. Since it's so close to my apartment, I was excited to finally catch a day when there was no line and get in quickly. I ordered two breakfast bagels, one cheddar with bacon and one everything with sausage. After a short wait, I took them home, which is only about a 10 minute trip. The first problem was that both sandwiches were basically falling apart as soon as I took them out of the packaging. The cream cheese had everything slipping and sliding around, so I had to practically reassemble them before I could even eat them. But the bigger issue was the bagels themselves. They were surprisingly hard and honestly did not taste fresh. They were also kind of cold, which really threw me off considering I had literally just ordered them. Once I started eating, the bagel was so hard that my mouth actually hurt. It was difficult to chew and genuinely felt like work to get through. I have to say, I was really surprised and disappointed. With the constant lines out the door, I expected something much better. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but based on this experience, I truly do not understand the hype. I would pass on the Chicago flavor next time, and do wish the cream cheeses had a stronger flavor in general. The honey vanilla was very lightly sweet.
