I've been wanting to try Tilly bagel for so long. Came on a late Friday morning. It was busy. Only a few tables available for seating. It's a basic dining room. The people behind the counter were friendly. We placed our order for 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches & an orange juice. We waited for our order by just stepping aside. There wasn't a clear pick up area. There were at least 4 people standing behind the counter. A couple weren't doing anything. Maybe they were training, but no direction, seemed disorganized. Tables could have been wiped off. My everything bagel sandwich had egg, cheese, and impossible sausage. It was dry & just ok. The bagel didn't have a nice chewy texture. The impossible sausage was cut weird & it was lukewarm. If I come back, I'd try a different bagel with cream cheese. Maybe I'd have better luck with that.
We picked up Tilly bagels at the recommendation of my daughter who is a college student at SAIC. We arrived on a Saturday morning and there was a line of about 10 people down the block. They manage the line and let a few people in at a time. We ordered at the counter, and the workers were super friendly and helpful. We ordered a couple of sandwiches for my daughter and her friend. They were out of vegan cream cheese, so they suggested avocado for my daughter's, and she loved it. My gluten free sister in law got their GF bagel with blueberry cream cheese. They can't guarantee there won't be cross contamination with the toaster, but she decided to risk it. She said it was the best GF bagel she has ever had. She ended up going back to grab some more on her way out of town. We also ordered half a dozen bagels to go and toasted them at our hotel. Overall I liked them but I wish they wouldn't have put fennel on the everything bagel. The bagels are huge. If you get a sandwich, you can probably share. There are a few tables inside as well as a cozy sofa area.
The bagels are soft and delicious. It is generously layered in thick cream cheese. You have several selection of cream cheese to choose from. I chose the sun dried tomatoes. Delicious! 2nd visit I went again and ordered the Lox (salmon) bagel. Yes I came back twice within 3 days! It was so much that I had to save it for lunch. The place is small but cozy and seat is limited. My daughter and I were pretty ok with standing and munching on our breakfast with the ledge table they had. Customer service was superb. I highly recommend it!
Definitely the best bagel sandwich I've ever ate! I ordered delivery due to the line always being so long here. I got the bacon egg and cheese bagel on a cacio e pepe bagel with caramelized onion cream cheese. The egg was so fluffy and the flavors of the bagel and cream cheese complimented eachother so well. There were a ton of toppings but i do wish there was more cream cheese. I also got the chicago bagel and iced coffee. The coffee was very average nothing special. The Chicago bagel was not my thing. It had so much seeds and the second you picked it up they went everywhere. When you are chewing all you taste is seed. Not complaining though i wanted to try something new. Overall the breakfast sandwiches here are where its at! There is a reason why this place sells out and has a line out the door. I would suggest ordering online for delivery to avoid that. I did pay $32 for all of this ($7 delivery fee and i live close by). Kind of expensive but still worth it!
Pro tip: expect a line! Overall, the bagel is solid. I went with the lox and the assembly of the lox, capers, onions and dill were evenly distributed with the cream cheese. Just right -- not too little and not too much. The bagel itself, I enjoyed the amount of seasoning on it. The breading seemed a bit dry, and I hoped for more of that chewy consistency.
Bottom line: Huge and delicious portions, super messy but worth it, and don't trust the projected wait time if you order online. I grabbed Tilly's as my last meal before heading home from Chicago. Reviews suggested ordering online to avoid the inevitable wait (this is a popular place!) but that backfired on me. The projected wait time showing as I put in my order was 20-25 minutes, which would have been fine. After I completed my order, the pickup time jumped to an hour, which was plus have made me late for my flight. I called the store and explained my predicament and they switched me from the online cue to the in person cue, which was in fact only 20 minutes. I was thankful for the flexibility. The food itself was delicious! The bagels are massive and the vegan cream cheese was thick. I highly recommend the vegan veggie sandwich. It kept me full until dinner time!
I got the #4 Crispy Potato with Chorizo bagel and the drip coffee. Both were delicious! Upon the cashier's recommendation, I got the caramelized onion cream cheese and that was a great choice. I also got the chocolate chip bagel with blueberry cream cheese. This one was just okay. I wish the cream cheese had more blueberry flavor to it. I felt like I only tasted cream cheese. Service was great and the store was very quiet despite people constantly coming in and going out. There is plenty of seating and most people didn't seem to linger once they were finished eating so the store never felt overcrowded or anything. I'd definitely recommend the #4 bagel and the coffees here!
Was walking by when I spotted the cacio e pepe bagel and knew I had to give it a try. There was a bit of a line but they've got the system down so it moved quickly. The bagel was extremely thick and bready with a nice slathering of cream cheese. The cheesieness of it reminded me of an asiago bagel, and the cheese shreds on top were a nice touch. The pepper was definitely a more muted flavor, but very delicious overall. There were a few seats inside but it was too crowded for me so I took the bagel to go. They did have complimentary water which I always appreciate.

I love this bagel shop!!! It's really cozy and nicely decorated. Easy menu to navigate. I loved my veggie bagel sandwich with cucumbers, tomatoes, greens, and balsamic vinaigrette, on top of a rosemary/thyme bagel, smeared with bacon/chive cream cheese. It's fun to choose my type of bagel and cream cheese. I really enjoyed my iced chai as well. The service is fantastic and quick. The chef came out and personally handed me my order with a big smile and friendly eye contact. The vibes are so good here!
Bagel was dry and very chewy. Salmon was good though. Pretty busy but line moved quick. Store smelled amazing but bagels were just ok
Huge fan of the bagels here!! They have interesting and tasty flavors, and the sandwiches are truly scrumptious and generously filled. My favorite currently is the garlic rosemary bagel as a crispy potato sandwich, with caramelized onion cream cheese. Warning: do not offer to share this sandwich with anyone, as you will regret it horrendously. And then keep thinking about how much you need to get that sandwich again, so much so that you even write a yelp review about it... Everything here that I've tried has been solid, and the bagel texture is perfect. I also love that they do a bagel of the week, AND that they clearly post what it is on their website when you order online :') My only complaint is that the space is too small for all the hordes of people (mostly yuppies and students, it appears) who come here. Either come early or quite late (at the risk of things selling out), or get your order to go! Seating here is harder to get than the bagel of the week. If you're desperate, the Barnes and Noble nearish here has a lot of seating and didn't mind that we brought outside food and just bought drinks.
Cute and tasty bagel shop but also with good quality coffee and tea options. The bagel sandwiches are tasty and filling. Love my matcha latte here, nice and hot. There is some inside seating but that can go very quick. Also a table you can stand at in case all seats are gone.

I was working in the area and saw this place conveniently located by my hotel and thought I'd give it a try! I actually went here two times in the week I was here because it was so good. We got the rosemary bagel with bacon and chive cream cheese, the Chicago bagel and a lox bagel with camera lied onion cream cheese. Amazing! The bagels were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I really liked how the bagels weren't overly chewy. The banana foster cold brew was also pretty good. Staff was friendly and nice! Definitely will visit again when I'm back in Chicago. read more
I finally made it out to Tilly Bagel after hearing nothing but good things about them for months and I understand it now lol. I've been back two more times this month and here are some of my favorites: The Crispy Potato bagel sandwich with Chorizo: the blend of flavors is like no other. I recommend this on a Cacio e Pepe bagel with the jalapeño cream cheese The Veggie bagel sandwich: this sandwich reminds me of Cali in the best way. Recommend this on the Garlic Rosemary bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese Their everything bagel and cheddar bagel are both amazing as well. This place is well worth the hype! I recommend placing your order for pickup online so you can skip any lines because this place is popular! read more

I came in twice while on a business trip. The service was always great. Efficient, friendly. That's the reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2. There are a few tables inside if you want to eat in. My issue is with the food. The crispy potato bagel was a bit of a let down - not really crispy at all, more of a soft hash brown patty. It wasn't what I hoped for, but it was edible. I came back another day and tried the egg and cheese bagel hoping for better. It was worse. The egg didn't even look like egg should look. It was the solid mass of yellow substance masquerading as egg. The worst egg and cheese bagel I've ever had. I struggled through a few bites before tossing the rest. Also not the place for your morning coffee unless you just want black coffee no frills. They make a latte, but have you add in your own syrup after from a coffee counter. Not ideal. Based on the other reviews I'd consider giving them one more try with just a bagel and cream cheese, the rosemary garlic bagel had promise. Still, the first and second impressions didn't hit the mark for me and I prefer other options in the area. read more

Tilly's had great reviews and it was walking distance from my hotel when I was in Chicago last month. There was a line out the door when I arrived, but I was committed to trying the place out. There is some seating inside, but not a lot, so expect to take your order to go or wait for someone to leave (at least during peak hours). They offer bagel sandwiches (egg & cheese, veggie, turkey, chicken caesar) in addition to bagels with cream cheeses (plain, caramelized onion, sun-dried tomato, jalapeño, honey vanilla, chive & bacon, blueberry). Drinks for sale include drip coffee, cold brew, matcha latte, chai lattes, hot tea, peach iced tea, and water. I ordered a turkey sandwich on an everything bagel with plain cream cheese, lettuce, and tomato. I was able to eat it at the shop since someone had vacated a spot while I was waiting. This was a tasty breakfast for me; the bagel was nice and fresh and the sandwich was definitely filling. If you don't mind waiting, you should definitely try Tilly's. read more

On our trip to Chicago, we had a craving for bagels. My husband and I came here based on a family recommendation. Tilly Bagel Shop has a wide diverse selection of bagels, it was so hard to choose. They also serve a "Bagel of the Week". We ended up trying one of their sandwiches - Egg and Cheese w/Sausage on a Cheddar bagel. The sandwich was so tasty and hearty, really hit the spot. It was 7:30 am on a weekday, it was busy but service was fast and efficient. Staff were all friendly and took the time to answer our questions for newbies like us. We will certainly be back next time we are in town. read more
Looking for a classic bagel spot (and one close by), we turned to Tilly's to satisfy that craving and they did not disappoint. We got there right at opening and were first in line; by the time they opened there were about 5-6 other people waiting behind. As with any downtown spot be aware of parking being spotty but this is well worth a trip. We were let inside the exact minute the store opened and the inside was sleek and clean. We ordered a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and a caccio e pepe bagel with carmelized onion cream cheese and a coffee. Ordering was smooth and the staff were very friendly, seeming to actually enjoy working there quite a bit. They put milk and syrups on the side for any coffees so be advised, if you make a bad cup of coffee then that's on you. They also have a water cooler out for you to grab a cup if you just want that. We got our bagels pretty quick and were so excited to dive into them. Both bagels were crisp and soft like a bagel should be. The plain bagel and plain cream cheese combo is a classic that they got down right. The cacio e pepe bagel with the caramelized onion spread was a unique taste, extremely savory with the cheesy flavor of the bagel coming through well. We ate our bagels pretty quick and were happy with what we ate, but will admit we weren't blown away. The verdict? Tilly's definitely makes a good bagel. Good enough where if you're in the area you should come out to it and see what it's about. In comparison to other bagels we've had it stacks up decently, but again doesn't stand out amongst the best. We would be interested to see what other flavor combos tasted like here so if we're ever in the area again we would definitely give it another try. read more
Thank GOODNESS the south loop got a decent bagel shop (and dare i say one of the best in the city!) My favorite type of bagel is a lox bagel, and Tilly Bagel does an amazing lox bagel (and it's packed with salmon). They have a good variety of cream cheeses as well as bagel flavors. I also really like how they have a rotating 'bagel of the week' flavor. Definitely come here during a weekday if you can (virtually no lines/ small line) vs the weekend when the line goes outside the building (but usually service is fairly quick). Inside there are also a few tables for dine-in seating if you can snag one. Come here for the bagels; can't really recommend the coffee because it's just okay. There are better coffee shops around the area. read more
Super solid bagel shop! It was super busy (but efficient). Seems like a place that locals frequent (which is a great sign). My friends really liked their coffee as well. Something unique is that the syrup is self serve. They had a variety of options. Restaurant looked nice and CLEAN. Not a ton of seating though (maybe about 5-7 tables). The woman who took my order was super nice! Asked about my day and had a nice smile. I appreciate a friendly face in the morning! read more
Duuuuude these bagels are worth the wait. Super busy spot around the corner from our airbnb, but I was served easily one of my favorite breakfast bagel sandwiches of all time (Crispy potato "Sandwich" with chive and bacon cream cheese) Great service, good vibe, awesome food. read more

Stopped by Till Bagel Shop and really liked it! You order at the counter, and they have tons of bagel options -- everything looked super fresh. Service was quick and the inside was clean and inviting. Our group ordered the Crispy Potato sandwich and the Egg & Cheese. The crispy potato was delicious -- definitely recommend that one! We skipped the cream cheese on the egg and cheese and kinda regretted it... it was a bit dry without. Lesson learned for next time! This bagel shop was near the hotel and marathon start. Went there the morning before for some carbs. They specialize in Chicago style bagels. Line was really long with mostly runners but moved quickly and efficiently. A staff member was letting in people as others were leaving. One can order ahead or order at the counter (numerous bagels and sandwiches). Today's choices are also on a chalkboard outside the shop. Got a small hot coffee and a toasted sesame seed bagel with avocado spread. Coffee was smooth, sourced from Sparrow. The bagel was huge, like NY style but has a different breed texture. Still good. Sesame seeds were copious. Avocado spread was also generous. Overall great place! read more
16 minute wait to get order - 2 untoasted bagels with cream cheese. Lots of staff standing around - inefficient process. Lack of organization with large numbers of customers. I personally do not like the bagels. I am an ex New Yorker so the bar really like is high. Bagel cut in half but not cut all the way through. Staff - why do you wear gloves? A staff member with gloves on reaches in pocket and checks phone then touches more bagels without changing gloves. read more
I needed a good breakfast/lunch and was told this place was good. I love a bagel sandwich so I had to go hit it up. The line was long on a Saturday morning but it moved pretty quickly. There is some seating inside. Each sandwich is pretty customizable so it is probably best to have your order ready for when you get to the cashier. We got 3 different bagel sandwiches. One was a crispy potato with chorizo sandwich, plain bagel with the seasonal cream cheese. The second was a sausage egg cheese, Tilly crisp, with chive and bacon cream cheese. Last was the lox, on a sesame bagel, with plain cream cheese. We got them all toasted. The lox was definitely my favorite. I loved the sesame bagel as that is my go to. It was definitely hearty and half was enough! I enjoyed my experience. The food was good and the service was quick. They had a wide variety on the menu and a lot to mix and match with. read more

I KNEW it! From my first bite of a Tilly cheese bagel when they had a small kiosk at a farmers market in the South Loop, I knew this was the New York style bagel I have been craving forever. Lord heard my prayer and built a Tilly Bagel intimate café in the South Loop! Magnificent brewed coffees, variety of fresh baked bagels, sandwiches and more. Had to pull over to chow down on a freshly toasted plain bagel with incredible onion cream cheese oozing out of it! Coupled with my fresh latte and I'm good for many hours. Mmhmmmm read more

We had a kids' birthday party to help set-up in South Loop on a Sunday morning, so we stopped by the famous Tilly Bagel Shop on Balbo at Wabash. They have so many creative offerings, but this time we stuck with the tried-and-true very-generous bagels and lox. They were not too busy at 8am for us to order ahead and pick them up for the road minutes later. The large bagels were what Tilly calls "Chicago-style": dense, more like hearty-bread than chewy-bread. Fresh and flavorful! The toppings were generous with plenty of cream cheese, bursting juicy capers, and red onion, and so much salmon that i pulled a little out to keep it from getting away during a bite :-) Once you had a bagel from Tilly, you'll want to visit again! Keep in mind they can get pretty busy in the morning. We were lucky! There was a line when we got there, but it moved quite quickly. read more

The lox on sesame with onion cream cheese was fantastic--fresh, flavorful lox paired perfectly with the savory onion spread and a chewy sesame bagel. A definite standout. We also tried the lox on tomato bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese. The shop is more spacious than most bagel spots, with plenty of seating for lingering or catching up over breakfast.
