I've been wanting to try Tilly bagel for so long. Came on a late Friday morning. It was busy. Only a few tables available for seating. It's a basic dining room. The people behind the counter were friendly. We placed our order for 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches & an orange juice. We waited for our order by just stepping aside. There wasn't a clear pick up area. There were at least 4 people standing behind the counter. A couple weren't doing anything. Maybe they were training, but no direction, seemed disorganized. Tables could have been wiped off. My everything bagel sandwich had egg, cheese, and impossible sausage. It was dry & just ok. The bagel didn't have a nice chewy texture. The impossible sausage was cut weird & it was lukewarm. We picked up Tilly bagels at the recommendation of my daughter who is a college student at SAIC. We arrived on a Saturday morning and there was a line of about 10 people down the block. They manage the line and let a few people in at a time. We ordered at the counter, and the workers were super friendly and helpful. We ordered a couple of sandwiches for my daughter and her friend. They were out of vegan cream cheese, so they suggested avocado for my daughter's, and she loved it. My gluten free sister in law got their GF bagel with blueberry cream cheese. They can't guarantee there won't be cross contamination with the toaster, but she decided to risk it. She said it was the best GF bagel she has ever had. She ended up going back to grab some more on her way out of town. We also ordered half a dozen bagels to go and toasted them at our hotel. Bottom line: Huge and delicious portions, super messy but worth it, and don't trust the projected wait time if you order online. I grabbed Tilly's as my last meal before heading home from Chicago. I'm grateful to live nearby to a good, local bagel spot. I visited on a weekend morning after having a craving for a lox bagel. The price ($16) seemed fine considering, and it didn't seemed too slammed. My wait after ordering in-person was about 5 minutes, versus the 50+ minutes that was quoted to order online. The sandwich was HUGE, but actually pretty good; my mental note for next time would be to request less cream cheese but otherwise, on par for a lox bagel. I ordered two other bagels to go, cheesy garlic and garlic rosemary. For both, I really couldn't taste the garlic because the other noted ingredients overpowered it. Looking for a classic bagel spot (and one close by), we turned to Tilly's to satisfy that craving and they did not disappoint. We got there right at opening and were first in line; by the time they opened there were about 5-6 other people waiting behind. As with any downtown spot be aware of parking being spotty but this is well worth a trip. We were let inside the exact minute the store opened and the inside was sleek and clean. We ordered a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and a caccio e pepe bagel with carmelized onion cream cheese and a coffee. Ordering was smooth and the staff were very friendly, seeming to actually enjoy working there quite a bit. They put milk and syrups on the side for any coffees so be advised, if you make a bad cup of coffee then that's on you. They also have a water cooler out for you to grab a cup if you just want that. We got our bagels pretty quick and were so excited to dive into them. Both bagels were crisp and soft like a bagel should be. The plain bagel and plain cream cheese combo is a classic that they got down right. The cacio e pepe bagel with the caramelized onion spread was a unique taste, extremely savory with the cheesy flavor of the bagel coming through well. We ate our bagels pretty quick and were happy with what we ate, but will admit we weren't blown away. The verdict? Tilly's definitely makes a good bagel. Good enough where if you're in the area you should come out to it and see what it's about. In comparison to other bagels we've had it stacks up decently, but again doesn't stand out amongst the best. My favorite type of bagel is a lox bagel, and Tilly Bagel does an amazing lox bagel (and it's packed with salmon). They have a good variety of cream cheeses as well as bagel flavors. I also really like how they have a rotating 'bagel of the week' flavor. Definitely come here during a weekday if you can (virtually no lines/ small line) vs the weekend when the line goes outside the building (but usually service is fairly quick). Inside there are also a few tables for dine-in seating if you can snag one. Come here for the bagels; can't really recommend the coffee because it's just okay.
