    Chorizo Taco (with eggs).
    Laurence P.

A new place for me. Al pastor was amazing, but sadly it went downhill from there. Lengua was bland and a bit disappointing. Huevos con chorizo had a bit of a weird taste. The costilla tacos was very messy (swimming in green chile) and also not the best to have to eat through the bones. Weird in a taco. I was really looking forward to the zucchini flower quesadilla, and it was good. But not great. Guacamole was the star of the order. Won't order from here again, too many other Mexican places that taste much better than that.

At the risk of posting my shortest review ever, I can sum this experience up as underwhelming. Nice people but what a burrito fail :(

    My first visit was #nationaltacoday.

With so many places to get a great taco for #nationaltacoday, I thought I'd try somewhere new. El Balcon has been on my radar for a bit. Being my first time here, I grabbed a menu to give it a look and didn't realize they had table service, until a large group came in behind me moments later. That group was approached immediately with chips and salsa. Eventually someone did walk over with some chips and salsa and asked if I was eating in. I indicated it was my first time and wanted to look over the menu. I went for a trifecta of asada, chicken and al pastor tacos. I added beans and rice for $1.50. The chips were terrible and appears they toss some new chips in with what ever the last table left behind. Salsa wasn't anything special and neither bottled sauce has heat. I ended up bringing the al pastor and most of the beans and rice home. I find it really awkward to have to go to the register with out a bill in hand. I don't see a return visit, servers weren't attentive and I was never really sure who my server was? Receipt doesn't have a way to leave a tip either, very strange set up.

Large margarita and complimentary tortilla chips.

I went back and forth on four or five stars on this visually and acoustically vibrant, fun, lively cantina alto vibe setting. I at first suffered some sticker shock for Mexican--no way was I paying supper club prices just for a Mexi-riche sheen (I ate at this place at its previous location just up the street minus the designer packaging.) I humbly acknowledge I was wrong. They not only stepped up their visual/environment game, but their food game as well. My "aperitivo" was a frozen mango and rum to enjoy with crisp chips and three types of salsa. The main dishes were deliciosísimo. Yes, you will pay several more pesos; however, the portions are more than ample-enough for two! Our server was attentive, polite, efficient, and very pleasant. As you can see, despite the higher prices, the overall experience was quality--I got my money's worth as the saying goes--I landed on five stars.

Our favorite is mole de coco on salmon but you can put any mole on any type of meat. This visit I challenged my husband to order something new. He's vegan so he got the fajitas de vegetables and I got a chicken tinga burrito. Both were delicious and we'd order them again. This is authentic Mexican food in an elegant style. Try it!

The kitchen might not be as manned up as it should be but that's okay, just be patient for your food, I promise its worth it. When you walk in there's a traditional ranch vibe to the place that is super inviting. There's plenty of seating as well. We orderer a Taco Pirata, Chicharron Botanero en Salsa Verde Gorditas and Deshebrada en Salsa Verde. The Taco Pirata is a quesadilla with Carne Asada in a flour tortilla. The cheese is delicious and the asada is juicy making for a delicious bite. The Botanero in Salsa Verde Gorditas were delicious too with the meat being cooked perfectly in the salsa and the Deshebrada was surprisingly the best thing we had. So simple but so delicious with great flavors. The food was all so comforting. We also ordered a Piña Agua Fresca that was so refreshing. Ibadan had other Agua Frescas here before and we wanted originally ordered the Pepino but the server politely informed us they were out. We waited roughly 20 minutes for our food but again, its absolutely worth it!
