I see why my sister has been wanting me to come here for so many years. It's a bit of a commitment from Bedstuy, but this no frills primarily take out spot is worth a stop. When you walk in, the menu is clearly visible above the register and they have burritos, quesadillas, and much more. The fam has always hyped the burritos, so I wasn't really looking to try anything else for my first time. I was on the fence between the chicken ranchero and seitan burrito. Since I had never had the latter before, I have to give it a try. I liked that there was an option for a spinach tortilla, I went with that. It was ready in about 10 minutes, and while it is indeed a take out spot, no one else was sitting inside, so we were able to occupy the four seats that were there. The burrito was humongous. I should have taken a picture of it, but I was so hungry and ready to dive in I just didn't. It was delicious. We all shared chips and a hefty amount of red salsa, that was surprisingly spicy. What a meal! We were lucky to just beat a big crowd of people. Folks were standing around waiting and pretty much the entire standing area of the little place to get orders. I'm glad I finally got to try and I would come back. The closest thing that I normally go to is the Nintendo store. I could definitely make it happen again. read more

Pretty mid burrito, unfortunately! I was really craving a burrito and I live in the neighborhood so I decided to support local instead of going to a chain. Sadly this did not hit the way I wanted it to. I got pollo asado and the chicken wasn't seasoned very well. The burrito was super loaded with rice and beans which would be acceptable if there was more flavor going on. I'd even be happier with more cheese and sour cream but those were both lacking too. Overall very average, which is sad for Hell's Kitchen as we don't really have any good spots to quickly grab a delicious burrito. They do have a LOT of vegetarian and vegan replacement options on the menu which is cool! Can't vouch for the flavor or quality of those though. read more

The employee was rude and repeatedly made homophobic and racially offensive jokes in Spanish toward me and a Chinese woman nearby, apparently assuming we could not understand him. 10/10! I got the quesadilla & my partner got a steak burrito. Honestly, this was one of the best I've been to, especially because the sauces are SO GOOD! Not quite sure what they put in it, but it taste so good & addicting! It pairs really well with the mandarin jarritos. I highly recommend checking it out. Service is also pretty fast. Seating is only limited to 4, so I would not recommend bringing a large group unless it's take-out. read more

Wow every ingredient was incredibly fresh and they definitely don't skimp on the protein! I ordered through Seamless, and everything arrived well packaged and prompt. Still on my quest to find the best Mexican food in NYC. Stumbled upon this place for lunch and I thought it was okay. They have around 8 stools in the shop and we were lucky to enough to snag 2 seats. After we ordered, it took them less than 7 minutes to bring out our food which was great. I ordered the Grilled Steak burrito and I thought it was okay. There wasn't a lot of steak and I thought the beans were pretty overwhelming. A 12-inch flour tortilla with seasoned rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and mountains of meat. The pork was nicely seasoned and shredded. It came with a bag of tortilla chips (nice!), hot sauce (didn't recognize it, not bad), and salsa... The salsa was distinctly terrible, tasting like bad, artificial tinned tomatoes compensated with raw sugar, like a mix of Ragu tomato sauce, ketchup, and raw onion. 3.5 Went here at night and I grabbed a black bean burrito. It was pretty good for a veggie burrito! There was a variety of ingredients, but the burrito is pretty wide so sometimes it's hard to get that variety of ingredients in each bite. But honestly, it was still tasty even then. A great spot right by Lincoln Center/Columbus square for a pretty solid burrito/taco. Ordered two Asada burritos with everything, a little pricy at $15+ per burrito, but maybe the huge portions will balance that cost for ya! The asada was really great though.... This is some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had in New York City. I ordered the grilled tofu quesadilla and the tofu had absolutely no flavor. It needed a giant dose of salt and seasoning at a good sear but instead it tasted like dirty tofu water. The small batch of chips that came with it was stale, and the guacamole had no flavor either. The staff was very friendly, but the food was so bad. I'm actually feeling grossed out as I write this. The only thing that I would recommend is the pico, which tasted very fresh. The burritos are very heavy on the rice and beans, which is fine; quite light on the lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese -- also fine. That said, the amount of rice and beans in there makes these pretty mushy, and it was more of a knife-and-fork meal than a burrito should be. Flavor was alright in mine. Came with chips and salsa, which weren't great -- I guess you get what you pay for, or something. All in all, a decent filling meal, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get. Wow - we're from CA/TX and know Mexican food. Not sure what took us so long to come here! The burritos are like mini pillows stuffed w rice, veggies, beans, cheese and a protein of your choice. Only one problem... The Cup of black beans posted on the wall at Burrito Box is actually Black Bean Soup. BBsoup is a delicious combination of Black beans / Pico de Gallo, and sour cream. It's listed and described correctly on the website, but when you are in the place, you think it's just a cup of black beans. If I hadn't asked about the confusion at the counter, they would have lost a sale on that item. It probably has happened before and will continue if not corrected. One of our favorite go to burritos spot in the world, the perfect San Francisco style burritos in Hells Kitchen Nyc. The food is excellent, try the portobello mushroom burrito with black beans, rice and quac. The service is good, efficient for a place doing a lot of volume. This is basically a takeout joint with a few counters to eat at. Good home made chips and Mexican sodas. No ambiance but this is a take out restaurant. One of our favorite Lincoln Center neighborhood places. read more

For me, a stop at Burrito Box is like visiting an old, longtime friend; perhaps it's been awhile, perhaps you even totally lost touch, but once you get back together, it's effortless to pick up right where you left off. Nothing but nostalgia and love. I had countless meals here when I used to waitress within walking distance. It always had good, wholesome, and filling food with delicious, fresh ingredients - and at a lower price pour that's atypical of many Manhattan eateries. Something about the unassuming, tiny, almost-walk-right-by-without-noticing-it space with only a couple of small tables and super limited counter space is actually a charming part of the whole experience. Back in the day, it was the whole ritual of it: scanning for a table that might be freeing up by the time our orders would be ready. Taking farrrrr too many of their (absolutely delicious!) house-made salsa ramekins and dipping into them with still-warm, crispy tortilla chips while waiting for our food. Hearing Latin music while sipping on a bottle of Jarritos. Having the best conversation over an enormous, overstuffed burrito. And sometimes, having to sit on the sidewalk because you couldn't score a seat, but hardly minding because your belly was happy from a tasty, warm meal. For all these reasons and more, Burrito Box has a special place in my heart. Early on in the pandemic, after seeing FAR too many small business shut their doors, I randomly wondered if they were still alive and well. At first, they were closed. But a couple of months later, I was delighted to learn they were back up and running! Hooray! Things may be (understandably) different now in the age of Covid: you're not scrambling to get the next available table (because the entry is closed off altogether), and the chips and salsa are not out on the counter for take-as-you-please portions (hello, germs). They are now, for the time being, a mainly takeout operation during the pandemic, along with two small tables for outdoor dining on the sidewalk. But one thing still rings true: my first BB burrito in many years was as wonderfully flavorful as I remembered. And while the world feels full of negativity and uncertainty in 2020, the comfort and familiarity of a longtime favorite meal goes a very long way. Brownie points: I told one staff member how much I used to love indulging in their salsa while awaiting my order, and he thoughtfully packed me some extra sides of it. The tostadas and burritos have always been my trusty go-to's, but you really can't go wrong here. Anything with the chicken ranchero is my personal favorite. Food is highly customizable, so if you have a specific request, just ask and they are usually kind enough to oblige. My mom, who is a vegetarian, really enjoyed her takeout meal here as well. My go to burrito spot in Hell's Kitchen...it also doesn't hurt that it's only a couple blocks from where I live. The burritos here are huge and delicious. I always get delivery in which they always include hot chips and fresh salsa. My favorite is the bbq chicken burrito. The chicken has tremendous flavor and sweetness just to my liking. The storefront itself is a little small but you can enjoy as much chips and salsa as you'd like if you sit in. If you're in the market for a massive burrito, with great taste and great price this is the place to go. I've only tried the vegetarian burritos (seitan, tofu and grilled portobello) and they've all been amazing but the seitan one is definitely the best of the 3. It's extremely well seasoned and tasty and they definitely don't skimp on the portions (it's not all just rice and beans). They also give you a small bag of chips, salsa, and hot sauce. This can easily be 2 medium sized meals or a massive meal. I liked it so much that I went two times in 2 days! I'm counting down the days to go back. As for seating- there's a few bar stool type seating so i'd suggest to eat to take it to go or go to the park on 57th and 9th. read more

I love the whole in the wall type feel of restaurants, and this was totally it. You walk up, and you just order right at the door, probably this way due to COVID, but regardless the food was amazing. I ordered a steak bowl, and OMG! I could taste the steak was grilled, and I love grilled food! The blend of everything was the right amount, not too much of one specific thing like some burrito bowls. If you're looking for food because you're hungry and you're looking for something decently priced, fast, and filling, then The Burrito Box is your spot. I've had both the carne asada and the BBQ chicken on separate occasions. Both times I've had more rice and beans than anything else and barely any protein. If I had to pick one, I'd pick the carne asada. The (scant) BBQ chicken in my burrito was dry and tough and keep in mind there is a difference between the grilled chicken and the BBQ chicken on the menu. I didn't realize there were two separate options and sadly ended up with BBQ sauce in my burrito! Each order comes with a small sack of tortilla chips as well as mild and spicy sauces.
