I am a frequent visitor of Great Burrito these days, getting their at least once every week. I usually go around noon to get my lunch. I order 2 beef and a 1 chicken taco. Usually they make them with 2 tortilla each, but I request them to use 1. The chef cooks the meat right in front, prepares and packs the tacos in about 5-10 minutes. One time I was able to put take out order thru Grubhub as well. The order was ready upon arrival. It was an easy pick up process. I love their large size tacos. The chicken is good but the beef is even better. Both have such tasty flavor. Even though the restaurant is not the best place to sit and dine, but their food quality and service are very impressive to me. read more

A Great Burrito. I woke up feeling like gambling so I got the tongue (lengua) burrito. I was shocked because the meat was delicious. The burrito does not really have much other fillings besides the beans, cheese, rice, and meat but it was simply a great burrito. There was the included side salad that i was able to mix my bites in for my preferred balanced burrito eating experience. The stripes of sour cream were very visually pleasing as well. The place itself is a NYC hole in the wall not much to say there. It's nice how there was some seating though so we could all enjoy our food in our group of four. They were extra nice since we spilled an entire Dunkin matcha on the table and floor and they were very nice about it and helped us clean it up without being upset at all. read more

Not sure why it's called Great Burrito, could have been really good years ago, but not now. Went yesterday, place is not clean pretty dirty looking restaurant, my burrito was $15, and only had meat, rice and beans, and the outside was super greasy. Was really bad to mediocre, considering it's nyc and there are many many much greater places that over better burritos and Mexican food with much higher quality and flavor. This has been my favorite place for so long. I went in college on the recommendation of a friend, and now I'm a loyal customer of 7 years. They are quick and family owned. It's a small place, but if there's no seats, I take it to go and eat in Madison Square Park. I introduced another friend and she had them cater her birthday party. I go whenever I'm in the area... which is all the time. I'd recommend the steak tacos and a horchata. read more

Should be called Terrible Burrito. Worst burrito I've ever had in my entire life or at least a very long time. Not only was it small for $16 only had rice beans and a little meat. The meat inedible chicken first bite had a big bone that cut the roof of my mouth. Second bite again bone.. after the third bite of inedible meat with gristle. I left. I would avoid this place at all costs. Not sure what there food rating is buts is a def hole in the wall dirty and smelled like old onions. I tipped $1 for something that I should have got a refund for. My friend and I were so hungry by the time we came in, so I was quite excited for this. We each got a lengua taco, carnitas taco, and grilled steak taco. I think it was $4/taco, which is on par with other trucks and sit down places in the area. All of the tacos were great. The carnitas was seasoned excellently, grilled steak as also great, and the lengua, although not amongst the best I've had, wasn't too bad either. There's about 3 tables in the space -- one large (4 people), and 2 smaller ones (2 people.) It seemed like most people were doing take out. Glad I found this place. I do like that this business is run by people that really know how to make tacos and authentic Tex-Mex food. They seem to be hard working and passionate and it's a really tiny hole in the wall spot in a neighborhood that thrives off of new and shiny things that costs way too much money. Anyway, the prices here must have increased drastically like everywhere else. Because this isn't cheap. Maybe it once was and I missed that window. I came in to order two burritos (one chicken and one pork) and they came out to $14 a pop. Yes, they were huge and the size of my head so it's probably worth the value at the end of the day (I still have almost half a burrito for lunch today). Stocked full of tasty meat and yellow rice and I think pinto beans. Not much vegetable in there but why do I need vegetables anyway? Their salsa is legitimately insanely hot. And this is coming from someone with a really high heat tolerance. I like it though because it was both flavorful and blow my intestines out the door. One thing I wish they did was mark the containers on which was pork and which was chicken because I had to play a tricky guessing game when I got home. It is pretty dirty inside. The first time I came here, was in 2016 -- it was my first extended stay in NY and I serendipitously stumbled upon this place. To my memory, this is the best Mexican food I've had on the East Coast, and rivals a lot of restaurants in SF (at least as good as) and LA (portions here are way bigger). I don't think they even changed the prices since 2016 which is amazing. I had a hard time remembering where this was, but my new office is nearby so I guess it's a blessing in disguise. The beef was so tender and I loved how perfectly seasoned the rice was. I really loved the rice! Their spicy red sauce was literally a hit of flavor, you could feel the burn from sauce. Awesome burrito spot not far from 5th avenue. This place makes food that's very authentic and rich in flavor. I ordered the carnitas, tongue and chorizo tacos. It was delicious! Well seasoned and cooked just right. The tacos are not small in size and expect to eat around 3 to get full. Prices are reasonable and they have a wide range of items. This is more of a small, slight hole in the wall but serves an awesome delicious taco. With only 4 tables, you really can't stay too long. Most people just get it to go but not me. After trying everything on the smallish menu I was glad to see they're branching out into specials. Last night I opted for steak over chile rellenos. While the dish would have benefited from a sauce or some other unifying element, all of the individual components were enjoyable, especially the jalapenos. This is a really, really small place across the street from the Best Buy on 23rd Street. Behind the counter they cook the food and there is a tiny seating area so this is just for takeout or for a quick meal. I give this place props because this is an authentic Mexican place. Other than tacos and burritos, they serve things like sopes, huaraches, and quesadillas. Interestingly enough, they also serve pizza. Not some special Mexican pizza, but just standard NYC pizza. Their food tastes fine. The only problem is that their prices are higher and their portions are smaller than similar Mexican places, like Paquitos (which has several locations in Manhattan). read more

Whoever thinks it's good idea to add pizza to their menu is such an idiot. All they need is their taco to make it. Best taco i was introduced to in Manhattan in value, quality and deliciousness. Order of two tacos can fill you up but i suggest three to be happy. This place is super tiny but manages to sit around 8 to 10 people. Menu is huge with Mexican food to pizza. I won't suggest pizza thou cuz they look like those $1 pizza a block away. The taco however is what you would die for there. We were here around 8:30pm on a weekday and managed to get a seat. Taco served on a real plate like a date night. Cheap date night. Their tacos are filled with about a quarter pound beef or some meat with avocado and please ask for their sauce. Great Burrito is the real deal. If you want that authentic Mexican flavor as if you were in Mexico you come here. I have only been to the Yucatan Penninsula but this was the feeling I got. Finally decided to try this spot today. Had no high expectations because it's very hard to find good authentic Mexican food in nyc. & coming from LA and Mexico I can be very picky. But even with low expectations I ended up being very disappointed. Ordered a classic enchiladas plate with rice & beans. & even though they scored with a good favored salsa verde, the quality of the meat was terrible! :( The chicken was dry and looks like it was reheated from the night before. We were recommended this hole in the wall joint by a local and it didn't disappoint! If you are looking for street style Mexican this is it. We are use to really amazing authentic Mexican food and this place held its own. I got steak tacos with rice and beans and my husband got a torta-both delicious.
