    Queso Sampler
    Vanessa T.

Nothing too exciting to say about this place. Very generic american food that tasted great but nothing worth going into a restaurant and sitting down for almost two hours. Theres definitely food at home. All jokes aside everything tasted fantastic, in regards to presentation and temperature and in its entirety. Definitely not at all Tex-Mex food. Queso sampler was very tasty and my boyfriend really enjoyed his cilantro and avocado margarita ! Service was meh nothing special.

Had a reservation on a Saturday night, didn't seem like we needed it though. Quick service and very attentive. They give free chips and salsa which is amazing! Not the best salsa I have ever had but for a free item I am not complaining. The white queso is good and hard to find up North, but it did the trick. Not quite the same as white queso in the south but fulfilled my cravings. It was a decent serving size as well. We ordered the Al Pastor tacos and chicken tacos. I really recommend the Al Pastor tacos, they were amazing, so good. The Diet Coke is just a can poured in a glass so no refills sadly. The grilled chicken tacos were okay, could have used more cheese in my opinion. Overall though, a great little restaurant in nyc! The ambience was also nice and very clean :)

Excellent Mexican food. My shrimp fajitas were excellent but the thing that really left an impression on me was the white queso we dipped our chips in (as an appetizer). Service was friendly. It's a small spot, good for a party of 2.

I have been on the hunt for some good queso in NYC and I think I may have found a new go-to here at Javelina! We were able to walk in on a Thursday night with no reservations. The restaurant itself was medium sized, but the tables are definitely close together. The service was exceptionally fast, and almost immediately after we sat down we got chips and salsa. I would absolutely recommend getting a queso as well even though the salsa was excellent. I opted for a classic chicken quesadilla and I loved that it came with sour cream, guac and pico. I think a quesadilla is a good benchmark of a Tex-Mex place (because if you mess that up, I can't trust you) and they passed the test for me! I definitely will be back here, and I absolutely recommend it for anyone in the area looking for some solid NYC Tex-Mex.

Service: 3.5/5 Food: 3/5 Nothing special. Fairly standard Tex-Mex food. I think the place is mostly for vibes + happy hour/after work drink attendees. What I Ordered: - Complimentary Chips + Salsa: small kick, we still ate 4 bowls - Chicken + Shrimp Fajitas: shrimp was a little salty, chicken was tender, came with a good spread of sides, guac oxidized quickly

Fun fact: I HATE it when restaurants are stingy with the AC on scorchingly humid days. As soon as we walked into Javelina on a muggy day that would've made the Amazon jealous, I knew I was in for a nightmare of a dinner. There was no discernible air con, and all the diners looked like they had just finished a HIIT workout. Shiny and sweaty...yuck! The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't remarkable enough to overlook the fact that I was melting. Our Habanero Queso with Chorizo was proper spicy, but that actually made the experience worse, since we were chugging (and requesting) ice cubes every 20 min. In fact, the ice cubes didn't last longer than 5 min before they were gone. The Veggie Enchilada and Steak & Shrimp Fajitas were both fine as well, and if I hadn't been broiling, I might've been able to enjoy them. For what it's worth, service was pretty attentive and friendly. They seemed almost apologetic about the humidity, but not enough to either turn on the AC or explain why it wasn't on. In sum: hot, spicy Tex-Mex in 95-degree humidity. Not my cup of horchata, but maybe others can stand it.

I wanted to life this place but outside of happy hour, food and drinks are pricey and all right. Next time I will try to come before 6 pm! I had the Bob Armstrong with white queso as suggested by my server but it wasn't that great. I wished I went with the cheddar. As for drink, the frozen margarita was decent. It definitely had the right amount of the sour mix and the tequila. For cheese dip and the drink, the bill came out to $32 :/

Service here was very quick! I tried the chicken taquitos appetizer, but it filled me up. I don't know exactly what was in them but the flavor was good! If you're looking for a Tex-Mex spot in the city, this is not a bad place to start!

As a native Texan who's been searching for halfway decent Tex Mex in NYC, javelina is the only place I've found that comes even close to replicating the flavors of home. I also really appreciate all the Texas decor and accents: the king of the hill restroom signs, the shiner bock on tap, even the free chips and salsa (charging for chips is a hangable offense in Texas, yet every other place in NYC loves to nickel and dime you on this front). The fajitas were a large portion for two and a good value - the chicken was a bit thin but the steak was excellent. Service was prompt, with frequent refills of chips and drinks.

Got home from a trip to Austin and was like, where do I get queso in NYC?? Javelina fit the bill. Easily made a reservation for a weeknight and tried: + Frozen Prickly pear margarita + Frozen mango margarita + Bob Armstrong queso + Skirt steak fajita + Javelina salad I've had better margaritas, but the food was really solid. The queso in particular was awesome! Reasonable prices/portions for the area, too.

A friend and I chose to experience the Restaurant Week lunch special since neither of us had been to this restaurant before. We sat at the bar and decided to go for the $19 lunch special they serve Monday - Friday instead. We had alot of staff servicing us. Even though we sat at the actual bar, we had a floor server attending to us as well as the bar staff. We even met the manager, Tiffany, as she introduced herself to us and made sure we were taken care of properly. The UWS location is huge. It is about 2/3rds of a North/South block with an enclosed patio built in the front of the restaurant. The bar is simply beautiful. It is half inside and half on the sidewalk also semi enclosed. I did not walk around the inside of the restaurant but I did see there were alot of mirrors and a darker interior. Bar was filled with liquor on the walls and gave it a modern day saloon feel. Very comfortable and inviting. We ordered drinks initially. They were carefully crafted and tasty on a hot summer day. I ordered the Waldorf Salad lunch special and my friend had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I must say the portions are large. They make sure you do not leave hungry! :) Both entrees came with soup and a second side. I had the biscuit and honey/maple butter. Oh my was it heavenly. My friend was super satisfied with her sandwich. It looked like a meal fit for a Queen! All of the food was seasoned well. While we were still enjoying our meal the bar changed from lunch to happy hour service. My friend decided to order the Margarita flight. It came with three flavored margaritas for a mere $12. I tried the Spicy Brine Margarita and it will now be the only drink I have for future visits. So delicious and flavorful. We were having such a great time as the bar filled with patrons and we spoke with our neighbors. At this time one of our servers brought us a complimentary pretzel. It was the star of the show from presentation to taste I would recommend anyone to try it. The bathrooms are unisex. By the time I needed to use it the restaurant was crowded and so it needed to be serviced. The stall I utilized had a strong urine smell and needed a proper cleaning. Management might consider placing air fresheners in each stall to at least give the illusion of cleanliness. This restaurant raised the bar for hospitality! The service was top notch as well as the food and atmosphere. If you have not tried this place I highly suggest that you do. It is a 100 out of 10 establishment for NYC! My gratitude goes out to all of the wait staff and bartenders that made our experience so wonderful.

Brunch at Jacob's Pickles is a real treat. I ordered the coleslaw with pickles as a side, it was delicious. The breakfast platter was absolutely massive and overall good, a bit salty for me, and the biscuit was a bit soft. But the grits were delightful. I sat at the bar, so the service was fine, though not particularly memorable. What I loved most was the patio: it's partially open and partially enclosed, letting you enjoy plenty of natural light while staying cool in the air conditioning. It gives you the feeling of dining outdoors without the noise or wind from the street. The interior design is beautiful and adds so much to the experience. I definitely recommend checking this place out. I'll certainly be back to try more of the menu!

The vibe inside is so cool, chill hip hop music playing throughout and I genuinely added about five songs to my music library before we even finished eating. That kind of atmosphere is hard to find. The food was incredible. I ordered the buffalo chicken tenders with waffles and everything about it was perfect. The tenders were crispy and glazed beautifully in buffalo sauce. The waffle was not your average waffle, it had this wheat cinnamon style to it that made it stand out, soft, fluffy and absolutely delicious. It came with butter and what I believe was an herb butter as well and whatever it was it was incredible. My fiancé ordered eggs Andy style, scrambled with bacon and toast, and the real standout on his plate were the potatoes. Crushed style, perfectly seasoned with what tasted like brown sugar and paprika. We are still talking about those potatoes. Service was amazing and the whole experience just felt effortless and fun. If you are in the Lower East Side and looking for an incredible brunch spot with amazing food and even better vibes, Sweet Chick is the one. Do not sleep on this place.

This one honestly hurt my heart…read more.. Y'all... this review hurts my heart to write because I am a Sweet Chick fan. Not a "I tried it once" fan. A real fan. I've been going to Sweet Chick since there was only one location in Brooklyn. I was literally traveling from Jersey to Brooklyn just for the food, the drinks, and the experience, and I never minded doing it because it was always worth it. So when they opened the Ludlow Street location, I was excited because now I didn't have to make the trip to Brooklyn every time I wanted my chicken and waffles. Back then, Sweet Chick was an experience. They had the big specials board with rotating waffles, desserts, and seasonal items. Their chicken and waffles never missed. I honestly can't remember ever leaving disappointed. So this review is really hard for me. Back on June 26th, after work, my mom and I decided to grab dinner. I work in the LES, and she suggested Sweet Chick. I did tell her my brother Robert had gone recently and said it had changed a lot, but we figured we'd see for ourselves. We got there around 9-ish. The first thing we noticed... It was HOT. Not warm. Hot. Like, "why does it feel like a sauna in here?" hot. We've had enough hot weather this summer, so walking into a restaurant with little to no air conditioning was honestly uncomfortable. We actually debated leaving before we even ordered, but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately... it never got better. The service also wasn't what I remembered. I'm really big on customer service, and Sweet Chick has always had amazing service whenever I've gone. This time it just felt different. The attentiveness wasn't there, and the overall vibe just felt... off. Even the menu has changed. My mom used to love their kale salad, but now it's made differently with things like dates, and she wasn't interested in it anymore. For drinks, my mom ordered an espresso martini, and unfortunately she really didn't enjoy it. It was pretty bitter, and we couldn't quite figure out what was off about it. If I'm ordering an espresso martini, I have certain expectations, and this one just didn't hit for her. I ordered the Queen of New York, and I actually really enjoyed my drink. No complaints there. Now... the food. I ordered the Maple Chipotle Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle. And this is where my heart really broke. Years ago, when they first introduced the sweet potato waffle as a special, I remember it actually tasting like sweet potato. This one... Honestly just tasted like a regular waffle. I kept looking for that sweet potato flavor, and it just wasn't there. The chicken itself was crispy and cooked well, but the maple chipotle sauce wasn't evenly coated. Some bites were really good, while other pieces were dry because they barely had any sauce on them. Another thing longtime Sweet Chick fans might notice is the butter service. I remember getting three or four different flavored butters, each in their own little container. This time we got two flavors together in one cup. It's a small thing, but it was one of those details that always made Sweet Chick feel special. My mom ordered the Carolina BBQ Chicken with the Grilled Corn Waffle. I'll be fair--her waffle absolutely tasted like a corn waffle. I tried it, and it was really good. She enjoyed her meal more than I did, although she also had a few pieces of chicken that weren't evenly coated with sauce and were a little dry. Overall, she thought it was okay. And I think that's really the word for this visit. Okay. Not terrible. But not the Sweet Chick we remembered. Maybe that's why this visit hit me so hard. When you've loved a place for years, you naturally compare it to what you know it can be. I genuinely hope this was just an off night because I have so many great memories here, and I'd honestly love to come back one day and have the Sweet Chick experience that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Because this restaurant has meant a lot to me over the years, and I'm rooting for it. I really am.
