I visited this place once as an impulse decision when I was running errands. I could not believe how much you got for your money! I could eat on this burrito for a whole two day i'm serious! Since I am vegetarian and lactose intolerant, it's hard to find foods that have enough flavor without meat and actually offer a good amount of options. Actual contempt for their customers. I picked up a burrito for a late dinner. Steak, add sour cream. Got home and discovered that instead of the steak, it was some mystery meat. No lettuce or sour cream. Mystery meat, tomato and cheese. I called and the girl's response was to ask how far away from the store i was. I explained that it was late and I was home for the night. She had me text a picture of the burrito to her phone. She couldn't identify what the meat was and agreed it was totally wrong. She said I had two days to come in to claim my burrito. I asked why and she said that was the owner's policy, and her reasoning was that some people take four months. I have no clue why that matters. Went in two days later to get the burrito I was owed, hoping I could get a little something extra for the trouble. Asked if I could do the dinner instead, which comes with a side rice and beans. Refused. I was splitting the burrito with someone, so I paid the $4.40 for a side of rice and beans. Been going to this place for a while, since they're open late and their food is not too bad. This place almost killed my husband and won't stand behind their food and reputation! We have been visiting El Burrito RICO since they have been open. Probably three times a month. Food is good and with COVID, we were trying to support a local business In our city. On October 13, we ordered our usual items. Came home to eat them and as I am eating, I see my husband choking across the table. He's able to gag it out of his mouth and it's a long piece, about 3 inches, of metal Brillo. It's from the Brillo that they clean their grills from. He recovers from choking and says he can't eat anymore. I believe he had only a few bites out of it. We call Rico and the lady apologizes. We ask if she wants it back and she says, no, just bring the receipt and they'll refund our money for the burrito. Well I went in With the piece of metal in a ziplock and receipt and was told they would not refund my money because it had been too long since it happened. Maybe a week because he had to leave for work and I had to take it. I asked to talk to the manager/owner and this 25ish woman says that she's the owner. They will not stand behind their product or responsibility to the consumer. Don't trust their food! If you could have seen my husband choking, you'd be as upset as I. This play is consistent. Consistently bad. The steak (that's what they call it) that is put in their burritos and quesadillas is terrible. It has no flavor, and is very similar to ground beef. The guacamole is bitter, the beans seem to be out of a can that's been sitting on the shelf for a few years. I've given this place many chances and because they deliver, we've given some grace for the lack of quality and flavor of the food. But tonight was the last straw.... Part of our order included a "giant steak burrito". What I received was a giant salad wrapped in a tortilla. If I scraped the beans and "steak" out of this thing, there wouldn't be enough to fill a regular taco shell. I'm so amazed that I had to take a picture of it. I had a chicken burrito with rice beans guacamole lettuce and tomato. It was huge...I could not finish it. The chicken was seasoned perfect not dry and plentiful. My chimichanga was stuffed with steak & cheese....and when I say stuffed, I mean it was pouring out of the perfectly fried golden brown chimichanga. I could only eat half of it! However a theme was common in all dishes. They must think their dishes are bland and lack flavor because everything we ordered, especially a to go container of salsa had a TON OF SALT. Not good. They're open until 3am, which is a major plus if you're sitting around at midnight and just start craving a chicken milanesa burrito out of nowhere... not like that's happened to me before or anything. I'm very surprised to see this many bad reviews for this restaurant. I have been eating here for the last couple of years. Ate twice or even three times a week here during summers with my boss and are always greeted with a smile and "how are you today's?!" The food is always phenomenal and is always hot with generous servings. The Al Pastor (seasoned pork) is one the best I've had anywhere, especially with their giant burritos. The customer service has always been great and they even go as far to deliver to the far west side of Joliet when they originally didn't. Told a couple of my friends to try it out and they are hooked. The horchata (rice water) is THE best anywhere, and I enjoy it even more on those hot summer afternoons.
