We stopped here for lunch on our way through Deming from Tucson. We were very impressed with the food. The Mexican Combination plate was delicious especially with the green chile sauce. My wife had the taco plate with chicken and beef tacos. They were excellent! The salsa had a good kick and the side order of guacamole was also great. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She offered us to go drinks. Prices were reasonable. This will be a place to go on our list next time we come through Deming. We highly recommend El Camino. read more

Well, now I find myself in Deming, New Mexico and as I often do...I try a mom and pop local restaurant due to its reviews. This restaurant has 4 1/2 stars. I will give it a solid 4. I ordered the everything plate which is the number 2 Deluxe Combination which comes with a 1 crispy taco, 1 enchilada, 1 tamal, and a cheese filled Chile Relleno. You are given the choice of red or green chili sauce to top your food items. I selected red. I must say it was good and spicy. The crispy taco was delicious. The taco shell was a freshly fried shell not store bought pre shaped. Enchilada was good and had a sweet taste even though it was topped with the red chili sauce. The tamal was big and fat and they were not skimpy on the pork meat inside. Not a tamal that is all masa. Not bad. I think I would have preferred the tamal without the red sauce. The chili relleno was tasty but had quite a spicy kick and I like spicy. I think I will pass on that next time. Rice and beans were just okay. So to sum it up, if I find myself in the area again, I will go for the crispy tacos and enchiladas. The girls working the dining room floor were really sweet and friendly. Stopped here while passing through Deming. There was three of us and we all thought our food was excellent. The chips and salsa were home made and some of the best chips I've had. I had the chili relleno plate and again it was one of the best I've ever had. It definitely has that NM heat on it. It's typical New Mexico Mexican food. Maybe the best in town or all Southwest New Mexico but that's saying little. Friendly staff and good hours. Ohhh... make sure you wear your mom (or dad) jeans after eating here!! You will leave stuffed and happy!!! I know we sure did! We were detoured through Deming after the road to Silver City was closed due to ice, snow and apparently a 5 car accident (according to the state troopers blocking the road). So we decided to stop in Deming for lunch. I am so glad we did!!! Being from Arizona we like to think we are experts when it comes to Mexican food. Camino Real did not disappoint and served up the real deal! The hubs had the combo plate with a tamale, taco, Chile relleno and red chili beef. Of course i sampled everything but the taco. The red chili beef was my favorite on his plate. Tender beef melting in your mouth and slightly spicy and earthy chili gravy. I had the stuffed sopapilla with shredded beef. It was like a little pillow of beef covered in Christmas sauce (red & green chili). Usually I am verde sauce fan, but their red sauce is divine. The beans and rice on the side were equally flavorful. Beans were sooooo creamy And speaking of creamy, their guacamole rivals anything else I have had in a long time. I'm so glad we were detoured and found this little place!! Man do I hate to give bad reviews...but I need too. We tried this place because our favorite Deming restaurant was closed as we were going through. I actually called ahead to see if they make "New Mexico style enchiladas". It should have been a sign when she wasn't sure what I meant. I clarified "flat, with meet and a fried egg on top". Now that might sound strange to most people but fans of New Mexico food know exactly what I am talking about. Anyway the girl said they could do them but I would need to tell the waitress. When we ordered, we again clarified what we wanted and she said they could do it. When our food came out she said the chef said that meat enchiladas could only be made rolled, not only that but there was no enchilada sauce on the inside of these rolled things....just meat. There was very little sauce on top, you could actually see the white of the corn tortilla. And there was no egg on it. All of this may sound petty to most people, but again, fans of New Mexico food will understand this situation. The fact that I called ahead, clarified at the time of ordering and that our food was brought out being exactly what we did not want made for a very frustrating experience. What a treasure to find in Deming, NM. Great overall experience that started with a friendly server. The chips and salsa were delicious. The salsa had just enough heat and the chips were crisp and fresh. I had the chicken flautas with Green Chile sauce and they could not have been better - crispy tortillas with moist chicken inside. They came with sour cream, guacamole and a side of refried beans. I never eat the beans but I tasted them and ended up eating most of them because they were that good. My husband had the cheese enchiladas. The chile was fresh and tasty and he loved the addition of finely chopped raw onions and the perfectly cooked over easy eggs. The total? A whopping $18.50! We stopped here for breakfast on the way to Phoenix--it was so satisfying! I'm a huge fan of New Mexican food, and as a New Mexican, I have had many huevos rancheros in my life. I was craving red chile sauce, so I got red chile huevos rancheros with refried beans--exactly what I wanted--it was flavorful and not too spicy. I'm actually planning to stop on the way back through Deming just to take some red sauce home. Even their coffee was good. Their chips and salsa (served free as appetizer) are delicious. The salsa is smoky and spicy, the chips are homemade (I think). In addition, the restaurant is clean and the servers were welcoming, quick, responsive, and friendly. It was good to see there were many other patrons there for breakfast. I highly recommend stopping here as you go through Deming! I ordered the Carnitas and they were served dry, as in plain, just hard fried pieces of meat sitting there without the customary spicy sauce. We had our 2 dogs who refuse to be left in a hotel room alone so we knew we'd just have to order food to-go. I got on Yelp & looked at our very small list to choose from. We decided to try this place out & I'm so glad we did. I ordered a small horchata, a shredded beef burrito smothered with green chile sauce & hubby ordered ground beef gorditas. Since our order was to-go I figured chips & salsa wouldn't be included but they were! Sweet! The chips & salsa were amazing, I must warn that the heat in the salsa really creeps up on you. I was sweating, thank goodness I ordered that horchata! My burrito was very flavorful & the meat was tender & seasoned well. My husband loved his gorditas. Salsa. The. Best. Ever. The manner in which I love and desire the green-chile-based tomato salsa from this little restaurant is almost beyond description. Discovered this place a few years ago, when spending the night in Deming during one of my trips from Phoenix to central Texas. I ate here once with my two kids while staying at a hotel next door, and immediately LOVED the salsa. From that point on, I have made a concerted effort to stop in Deming 4 times a year and buy salsa to go. I bring my own plastic container, and they fill it up for me, usually around $7-$10 depending on the size of the container I have brought to them. They are always gracious about it. I take this salsa with me to Texas and share it with the heat-lovers in my family. This salsa is NOT for the weak of mouth - it comes with a little FIRE. It's a slow burn - you won't expect it at first, then it builds on you. I absolutely rate it the BEST RESTAURANT SALSA I have ever experienced in my 47+ years. If you like it fairly hot, you will agree. Stop in and give them some business. read more

3.5 So, I'll admit it, I've been slacking... I got caught up in one of those crazes that became a pop culture phenomenon and because of it I haven't been doing reviews as I go there. Fortunately I keep really good notes :D El Camino Real (this name sounds so familiar I would have put money on eating here before but it turns out I never have) is a hole in the wall style Mexican restaurant, it almost feels like you're in mexico but not quite. The service was great, and I never needed to ask for a refill on my drink. The chips and salsa come in two heat gradients mild and hot, if you've read any of my previous reviews you know that I don't typically shy away from heat so I got the hot. The salsa does have a bit of kick but not enough to detract from the taste, I could easily down several chips and salsa without the desire to reach for my soda to try to comfort my tongue. One of the things about most Mexican foods I've had is you pick a meat, add some corn/flour wrapping add some cheese and chile and you've got a meal, and usually that's all you need, I mean you can toss in some papas or some heuvos to mix things up but there's usually not a ton of variance which is good because it allows me to easily determine which places mix those components up the best. I decided on the Shredded Beef Burrito with green on the side (while I like to think after 20 years of New Mexico living I'm ready to just haphazardly throw chile on every meal I've had a few otherwise good meals ruined because the chile was too hot) it also allows me to taste the food with and without the help of chile which quite honestly makes almost anything taste good. Unfortunately the burrito was quite bland without the help of chile and even smothering it (the green wasn't too hot for me this time) it still felt like it needed something extra. This blandness carried over to the rice which is generally one of my favorite parts of the plate. The beans on the other hand had a great taste and texture and were in every sense of the word excellent, and while the food wasn't the best I've had it was definitely edible and I'll likely go back and perhaps try some alternate variation of meat/flour/cheese/chile... read more
