Pupusas in Vacaville! This Mexican restaurant surprised me in the best way just because their pupusas are so good. They're huge, super flavorful, and the edges were perfect (you know what I mean... I usually hate those thick masa borders, but these were fire). Their plátanos con crema y frijol were also delicious. Had a hanking for Menudo did not feel like making. Well we settled in me and wife we both had a bowl of Mendo. Chips salsa was average .fresh corn tortillas were great. Menudo was good served with all fixings. Im gonna give it a 4 star. Cause my menudo is better lol. Bowl was big I had beef feet and hominy. Service was great, young lady took good care of us . Was nice and quiet chair was a little hard no padding.all in all was a good experience again. $18.00 for 1 bowl was a little pricey. Will come back again read more

A super solid spot for pupusas in Vacaville! I have been to El Caracol a number of times and each experience has been great. I always get their revueltas, pollo, asada, or plain pork and cheese pupusas when I visit and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant itself is cute and honestly usually pretty quiet. I think they get a majority of their business for pick up order though. The staff is friendly and the orders get done really quick! Food is very fresh. The masa itself in the pupusas is tender and not dry. Everything is super filled and they do not skimp! I think my favorite has to be pollo or revueltas (pork, bean, and cheese!) Super flavorful and not too salty. I love the sauce these are served with, it creates a lot of balance. Only reason I am not giving this place a 5 is because it is not the best best pupusa I have ever had. But is it delicious? ABSOLUTELY? If you are looking for a new spot to try, or are interested in exploring Salvadoran cuisine, stop here! My friends and I checked it on this past weekend and we all loved our food. The chips and salsa were delicious. I got enchilada, my friend got mole enchiladas. Wow, what great food and experience. This was our first visit. It was a rainy Sunday morning and we're debating between American and Latin breakfast. I found this place on Yelp. My Salvadorian husband is always skeptical of Mexican/Salvadorian food. He always said, combination restaurants they all do one well but not both. I guess he was proven WRONG today! I highly recommend the Carne asada plate. The steak was well seasoned and tender with crunchy onions & bell peppers. We also ordered the platanos con crema y frijoles. We couldn't stop eating those, so satisfying and delicious. The pupusa revueltas were amazing. Great flavor, and filling to masa ratio, perfection! One of the owners came to check up on us. She was so friendly, she co-owns the restaurant with her sister. The young lady who took our order was very friendly and the nice young man did a great job bringing the food out. My 1st visit here. I had a carnitas burrito wet, it was filled with plenty of fresh carnitas and not greasy like some tend to be. The other burritos were dry but just as big. Excellent pupusa and service at El Caracol. We've been going here and ordering their pupusa take out for a minute. We've visited the FF branch which is owned by a different person now per the worker. Same great, warm, homemade, and very filling pupusa. Good prices w/ quality ingredients to match. My fave is the curtido, cabbage relish. I love that fermentation, esp since kraut and kimichi are my faves...I can eat that as is but better paired w/ pupusas...it really compliments the density and mildy salty tortilla. Their pupusas are so fast-filling that its a struggle to even finish one. Great flavors in their rice and beans...that exquisite lard flavor elevates anything that touches it, beautifully melds the flavors and textures in so many Latin American dishes! El caracol is one the very few restaurants that serve some real good Mexican food. The nachos here are jam packed one of my go to's. My wife loves there wet carne asada burritos here as well. Also when adding shrimp they don't charge you and arm and leg unlike some places lol highly recommend this place! read more

This review is for a pickup order. I was cheated out of money and given horrible food. I'm extremely disappointed with the service provided by the staff at this restaurant. I called to place an order for pickup. I ordered four carne asada tacos, three bean and cheese pupusas, six bean pupusas, Mexican rice, and three horchatas. The employee who took my order correctly repeated my order back to me and said that it'd take 25 minutes to prepare the order. Everything sounded good so I sent my brother to pick up the order. When my brother returned with the food, he told me that the total cost was $110. That immediately raised red flags in my head so I looked through the bags only to find that my order was incorrect. Instead of three bean and cheese pupusas, we were given three bean and cheese burritos. A bean and cheese pupusa is $5.25 while a bean and cheese burrito is $13.50 which was why the total cost was way off. Initially, my brother did not want to make another round trip to get our correct order, so he said he'd eat the burritos anyway. We cut one burrito in half and were disgusted with what we saw. It was a soggy burrito filled with old refried beans and a sprinkle of cheese. I wish I had taken a picture so that you can see how sad and disrespectful the burrito was, but I was so shocked and disappointed that my first thought was to wrap it back up. There was no way that he was going to eat the mess in front of us. I immediately called the restaurant to explain the issue and they said that he should come back and they'd "fix the problem". When he returned to the restaurant, the staff took the burritos from him and swapped them with pupusas. The staff did not apologize or give him a refund for the incorrect charge. So we were ultimately robbed of over twenty-five dollars. To make matters worse, the food was not good. The beans had no flavor whatsoever. The only enjoyable item was the horchata. I recommend that you avoid this restaurant at all costs. I gave it a try in spite of the bad reviews because I was desperately craving a pupusa, but I've learned my lesson. read more

Sadly, if I could leave negative stars I would... I called in a pretty standard order. 3 item combo, burrito and 2 enchiladas. What came was a burrito about the size of toilet paper roll and a single enchilada. Another 3 item with 2 sopes and a pupusa. I went received was a single sope and a fishy tasting pupusa. When I called I was rudely accused of lying, told that I had to bring everything back before they close if I want them to "fix it" all I asked for was a refund for what was missing. I spoke to a woman when I placed the order and when I called she told me she didn't take orders and then somehow a few minutes later she remembered taking my order. This was after asking the kitchen if they packed the order correct and told the kitchen "that doesn't seem right huh, that can't happen huh" I asked for extra cabbage curtido and didn't get any. (This same thing happened in the restaurant also) Sadly another case of poor customer service for an easy fix. I've been looking for a place close to Dixon that serves good pupusas -- I think I might've found it. Bought a single cheese pupusa, just to give it a try. It did not disappoint. It came with a portion of curtido and some salsas. The inside was cheesy with little tidbits of jalapeño. It was delicious. Cooked to a point where the some cheese oozed out and was crustified, which added another dimension to the experience. Highly recommend. The place itself was clean, just meager and not very inviting. Also ordered two pork and cheese Pupusas , the one I actually got was good , they forgot to bring the second , and only brought the first because I had to ask . My friend ordered the 1 item meal , A pork and cheese pupusa with rice and beans, again the Pupusa was good but the rice and beans was ice cold ! Had to ask for more water , salsa and chips , this is definitely top 10 worst services I have had , one of the waitresses was snotty and rude ( took a photo of her ) hopefully the owner addresses this ! Whats strange is we was sat ,, ordered our food and about 15 minutes later a family of 4 walks in , is seated and ordered maybe 5 minutes after being seated ,,, they received their food 15 minutes before us ( Pupusa's ) ,, also when they brought out our food they brought out my friends food first and mine 10 minutes later , then when I asked where are my pupusa's they said oh we are working on them , but the table next to us got their Pupusa's 30 minutes ago after coming in 15 minutes after us ! We almost didn't go in as we were looking for a traditional style restaurant and this is in a strip mall. But inside was clean and well presented. The food was good and I really liked the pickled cabbage with the papusa. They're certainly not a green business and it seemed that most of their business is to go so that's probably one reason. Only complaint is that it took a long time to get our food and my husband's food came out first - very hot - and mine arrived about 5 minutes later not very hot at all. I liked the rice and the flavor of the beans. I also tried the chimichanga but that needed a sauce to go with it as it was a bit dry. My husband had the chili rellano that was smothered in sauce. His complaint was that there was nothing green like a little salad on his plate. All in all it was good and if we lived or worked nearby we'd be back. They are very friendly and attentive. read more

Customer service was really good establishment was very nice and most importantly clean. How ever I was a bit disappointed with the papusas was to thick. The cheese papusa was good even though it was too thick with masa. Not the chicharon was not good at all the chicharon was to juicy being salvadorian the chicharon is supposed to be on the drier and side what makes it not be too dry are the condiments mixed with the chicharon when it's being grounded. Because of the chicharon papusa I gave it a 2 star They need to improve making papusas less masa and better making of the chicharon read more

One of my all time favorite Mexican dish is Chile Relleno. I think of a Chile Relleno like a giant and sophisticated Jalapeño Popper. It's a very straightforward dish, but it's so easy to ruin. The batter is the most crucial part. It's a Chile stuffed with cheese and topped with a red sauce. This one happens to be filled with Monterey Jack Cheese. I like everything about a Poblano Chile. I think this dish needs more time, care, and attention than a lot of people out there give it. Also I never had a Sidral Mundet, this is my first time. I had the Apple flavor, and I think that was the best part. read more

After sitting down, the server brought a basket of chips with Salas and walked away and didn't ask if I would like something to drink nor did she give me a chance to ask for a drink. A few minutes later she returned to take my order at that point she asked if I would like a drink. I waited too long to receive my meal, once I did the pupusa was okay but the rice and beans were cold. The server didn't not return to ask how the meal was, didn't ask if there was something wrong why I barely ate the rice and beans she didn't ask if I needed anything. She served and disappeared. I wanted to love this place! I saw pictures of the food and couldn't wait to try it. Unfortunately the pupusas didn't hit the mark for me. I ordered the chicken and cheese pupusa plate with beans and rice. We dined in and sat out front in the outdoor seating area. The pupusa was full of cheese which I liked!...but not much chicken. Usually, pupusas are typically served with curtido...however the ones we were served did not have any of it...nor did it have the salsa typically paired with it. Curtido is my FAV!...so I asked for some along with more salsa. To my surprise, the server brought out plain cabbage. *heavy sigh* I also wanted black beans but they didn't have any that evening :( On the plus side, the server and the staff were really really sweet.
