Great for an El Salvadoranean desayuno! There was a line at 11:24am. And the line looked like mostly regulars. I kind of stuck out. Pupusas are delicious. Had to go the mushroom & onion, spinach and the squash. Must have with the salsa and cabbage. The desserts looked amazing- tried the piña empanada. The cookies do look like from same dough. Next time I'm going to try a slice of tres leches which they had at least four flavors. The staff was friendly. They have pan dulces, a variety of desserts to choose from, and a few different kinds of agua fresca to top it off. First off, parking is limited and chaotic here. Having said that, I come here weekly despite the near death experiences in the lot. I get Revuelta pupusas, atole de elote, classic yellow cake with white frosting, and tres leches cake. The pupusas are usually already made and in the hot case. One time I wanted a cheese only pupusa and it took like 10 mins. The pupusas have a crispy outside followed by a warm and soft masa and then a healthy portion of pork/beans/cheese. It's that white cheese that's hella stringy. The yellow cake is moist, I always ask for a middle piece though. Apparently everyone else does too lol. They usually have two or more varieties of tres leches cake. The strawberry is my favorite. The atole is a warm drink. Think hot chocolate but with corn. It's so comforting. There's open seating on the other side of the usual long line. A wall of beverage choices as well as a cake display give you something to look at while you wait. The ladies at the counter are always kind, never rushing you. They work quick. Overall vibe here is a little like Porto's. It's organized chaos in here. read more

Highly recommended! I've been coming to this bakery for years and for good reasons. I usually get their pupusas with fermented cabbage and salsa roja. They also sell them by the dozen with a small discount. It's great for potlucks! Their baked goods are also delicious and reasonably priced. Their service is friendly and efficient. When I am curious about an item, they don't hesitate to provide samples. They have ample seating to dine in. If dining in, you pay after your meal. The only negative is their parking. After seeing their food postings on instagram, it looked so appetizing I made the trip with my mom who is Salvadorian and my son. We got excited we ordered a few items to try it all, unfortunately we were not happy. The pastel de carne was not great, it lacked flavor and was very bland and so huge. The plátano empanada was flavorless and the crema was like jello, strange consistency. The pupusas were mid. The salsa and curtido were really good though! That felt the most authentic. The desayuno was strange. The plátanos were great so were the cheese and crema but the eggs and Casamiento were runny. The parking lot is real small at this location. There are two others I have not been to. The service was fast and the cashier was friendly. All in all I wouldn't go back. It's obviously not the same as the food in El Salvador but it was not up to par. Try El Cerro Verde instead. read more

Took long to place an order and even longer to receive our order. They had lost to choice from went only for pastries but had to place an order for food as well. I noticed that those who did not order food got their order faster. Note to self to stick to pastries only. The cashiers were all very kind and helpful. The 3 leches was my favorite but I wished it didn't have the artificial sauce on top. The atole was corn flavored and very satisfying on a chili day. I finally made it to El Carrusel. I've been following them on Instagram and was lucky enough to be visiting Los Angeles this past weekend and coincidentally near this joint. This restaurant is a mixture of restaurant and bakery. They offer a variety of Salvadoran sweet breads along with cakes. They also offer a variety of authentic Salvadoran food. As always I ordered pupusas. They have a different system going. First time I've seen this. They make the pupusas ahead of time and keep a good inventory of them at the food warming station. You basically tell the server what you want and she loads your dish up. Pretty neat process. They also have plátanos fritos and Salvadoran tamales. This place of a really good place if you're in a hurry or on a lunch break. You really don't have to wait for your food to be cooked, it's already made!!! There are long lines so be prepared. They do have seating if you wish to eat there. Nothing fancy but a great place to unwind and enjoy your lunch or dinner. I will definitely go back.
