Chicken? Fried rice. There's basically little-to-no chicken in here.
    Josh B.

"Chicken fried rice" is more like fried rice with a few lucky bites of a few tiny pieces of chicken, if you can find them. Without the sauce that comes on the side, it's okay at best but the sauce takes it up a notch. Wish it came with more sauce and chicken.

Servings. This is what we would described this place. Servings are huge. And they're serving their full menu. Started with chicharon de calamari, they looked like onion rings but better. No tentacles but they were still enjoyable with their dip. And of course, ceviche de pescado. Just look at the serving size in a bowl. This is ceviche heaven. Main courses were pechuga empanizada (breaded chicken), man this was also very good. Then the corvina cevichef which was also very tasty. If I compared this to the grilled corvina from Peruvian Grill, I prefer the latter as their corvina had a hint of crispiness which made the fish very enjoyable. Then the arroz chaufa de mariscos. Again, to compare the chaufa de mariscos of Peruvian grill, preferred the taste of the latter but that doesn't mean El Ceviche's version isn't enjoyable as it still is very tasty, plus didn't I mention their huge servings? Took home the leftovers so we can just stay at the beach the next day and enjoying these meal again. You're gonna fall asleep after dining here. No outdoor dining unfortunately. It's so bad writing these reviews as looking at these pics makes my mouth watery and stomach growling. Another place to go back to when in Sarasota.

    Chaufa mixto

This spot is very authentic, me and my wife both enjoyed it and we will definitely eat here again. We had the Chaufa mixto with seafood and the seco de cordero which is lamb stew and they weee both amazing

I've been to this place a few times. What sticks out the most is that the PORTIONS ARE HUGE. I've had a ceviche several times. It could easily feed two. It's a Peruvian style ceviche featuring a mix of seafood and onion and marinate in a citrus juice to cook. I love the acidity and it hits the spot! The seafood fried rice was spot on for flavor. They filled the entire to-go box and lasted for 4 meals!

Appetizer- Chicharron de Calamari Served with red onions and yellow sauce. The red onions were so good, we asked for more.

Came to this spot with friends while visiting Sarasota. Location: Small little restaurant in a shopping center with parking in front. Food: Amazing flavor and giant portion sizes! We were started off with the roasted corn and green sauce (disposable containers due to Covid). Calamari- giant plate with red onions and yellow sauce. Great flavors and only $7.99 Ceviche de Pescado- Amazing flavor and huge portion. My husband couldn't finish it. Lomo a lo Macho- Beef sirloin (made to your liking) with side of yuca and plantains. Included a bowl of mixed seafood (I could make out shrimp and mussels) in a creamy flavorful sauce. We were 5 people and everyone loved their meals! We will definitely be recommending and revisiting this spot anytime we're in Sarasota.

    Food

Family owned. All fresh! Delicious. Great service. I would call this a hidden gym and will be back.

Portions are huge for the price. But I found the food to be lacking in the loads of flavor I was hoping for. The yucca was cut on the big end, giving less surface area for the fry oil to crisp them and the sauce they were served with was cold cheese. I've had these in Chicago and they were served with a light vinegar that was perfect. Pretty disappointed in these. The ceviche was Devine. Light and crisp and tart. It wasn't served with anything for dipping like chips but it was yummy. The calamari was okay, nothing to knock your socks off. The dinners lacked salt or any other spice. But the real reason I gave 3 stars and not 4 is the service was SLOW. There appeared to be 3 people serving tables and it just took painfully long.

This was the best ceviche I've had from any Peruvian place. Delicioso! Plenty of fish.

And the portions are HUGE. We had a reservation which was well used as it was pretty packed. We sat inside. It was pretty warm inside, though, from the heat so just be prepared for that. We got a pitcher of sangria and they make it right beside the table. It was SO good. Wow. Each person got about 1/4 a loaf of warm bread. They did say it was cuban bread but it wasn't really. But hey the bread was good. We got their famous salad to try (one side order for 2 people to split and one person got it as their entree) and it was very good. They also make that table side. For our meals, we got the lechón, salad, and fish. The portions were HUGE. So much pork. It came with great tasing yucca, beans, and plantains too. For desert, we got the guava pastry and the natilla. The guava pastry was actually kind of amazing. Warm and so so good. The natilla was good but it was closer to a crème brûlée. It was still good, though. I'm excited to go to another (closer) location of theirs again. It was really such good food. We were also able to take our leftovers with us since they gave us so much food. The lechón plate is definitely splittable.

While I have awarded a 4-star rating for both the food and atmosphere, I must mention that there has been minimal evolution over the years. The short ribs remain a standout dish and the drinks never disappoint. That being said, I did try the tiger shrimp flatbread during my last visit, which was a delightful special. Consistency is definitely a strong suit here, but I believe a touch of innovation wouldn't hurt, especially considering the kitchen's capabilities.
