We sat in the lounge at a cute round corner table that made everything feel intimate and perfect for conversation. Our server was very attentive the whole night, and the drinks were honestly really good. The food is definitely different, but in a good way. If you're into infusion-style cuisine and like trying creative combinations, this place is worth checking out. One of my favorite places. Food is delicious. The duck and skirt steak are a must try here. You can't go wrong with any ceviche appetizer either. We usually order the tuna or empanadas. Love the music and atmosphere of the bar area more than the dining room. So if you are looking for lively, head to bar. If you are looking for more quiet, intimate, reserve a table in the dining room. Servers are super nice and attentive. Tonight we tried the special shrimp cocktail. Delish! We dined in for my husband's birthday and sat in the lounge area. We had a great time. We enjoyed the many varieties of ceviche that Selva has and their eclectic menu. We have dined at the downtown location as well and I have never had any issues with my having Celiacs being accommodated. If you like seafood this restaurant is a must try. The Utc location is right off the interstate which makes it super easy to get to and it's basically by the mall so there is ample parking. The first bite is amazing and makes you want to taste more... But after the first bite, it becomes a bit stale. There needs to be more layers to the taste. Popped in for a quick bite as I'd never been and had heard great things. What a treat! The place has a really cool feel to it. We had a few lite bites and a cocktail, everything was delicious. I'll come back next time with my appetite as I'd love to try the duck and the lamb. Selva is a very interesting place. Cool vibe as you walk in with three seating options. Dining room, bar lounge and outside. We had a reservation for my birthday and there were 5 of us total. We decided to share a bunch of app since there were so many on the menu that sounds good. We asked the waitress how many she thought we might need so we could share them as our meal and she was less than helpful. She did say that each app comes with one item with the exception of the empanadas which come with two. One item? One crab cake for $21??? One spring roll for $17?? That's ridiculous. It doesn't matter if you cut the spring roll in three. It's still one spring roll. I do have to say that everything I ate was tasty and delicious. But for those highway robbery prices. Ate dinner fir the first time at the University Town Center location. Two members of our party have significant food issues. We did call ahead to see if this would be a problem. When we arrived our server, Tom was aware of these issues and guided our friends on appropriate dishes and changes that could be made to accommodate them. When my friend asked for a certain wine they did not have, Tom offered a substitute which was excellent. We all had appetizers which were very generous. Empanadas and spring rolls were very good. All the main dishes well prepared and enjoyed by all. My tuna portion was not only prepared perfectly but was a generous portion. A bit pricey but decent potions and very good quality The decor was elegant without being stuffy. Again our server Thomas was very professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. We came here for lunch on a weekday. The decor is beautiful! I loved the atmosphere. We got to choose between the main dining room and the lounge. The lounge is a little darker and intimate. We sat in the main dining room with lots of natural lighting. We had exceptional service the entire meal. I got a Bloody Mary and it was very olive forward. I asked for it spicy but I didn't feel much spice in it. I loved the maya ceviche. Very citrus forward and a good portion of shrimp. The short rib spring roll was good but a bit small for the price. The sauce had a mustard taste even though it was described as a pepper sauce. The chopped salad wasn't as expected. The avocado is mashed up into the lettuce almost making a dressing. I was expecting chunks. I also wasn't interested in the dressing but the server informed me she only had olive oil and vinegar as an alternative option. I got the 4oz filet as my protein and asked for medium but it was a thin piece so it did turn out more medium well. I would recommend asking for it to be a little under cooked than you usually order. When we left I asked if I could get my iced tea to go but they informed me they do not have to go cups which I thought was strange. Over all it was a nice experience. This was such a great find while we are in SArasota vacationing. I called them prior to going to see if they can accommodate allergies, and they told us they can! My son has a major tree nut allergy, everything on the menu is labeled what has nuts, and my husband is gluten sensitive, they had a separate menu. When we walked in the atmosphere was upscale and hip. They don't allow baseball caps in the dining area, so keep that in mind. Now to the food....the original ceviche was amazing, so make sure to order that. We ordered couple of other things and everything we got was 5 star! Our server Frank was so kind. We walked in without reservations and were offered a high top. We declined it and asked if they could call us if there were any other table openings. We drove around the UTC area and 10 minutes later they called us that they had a table. We were delighted. We were greeted by Kelsey our server. She suggested a few recommendations. The ambiance is a cool hip vibe. Beautiful decor. Impressive wine room upon entering the restaurant. Started with the Tuna Tiradito Fresh sushi grade Tuna marinated with ginger, sesame, soy sauce and cubes of fresh watermelon. Wow flavor explosion ! Truly delicious. Also had the Short Rib Spring Roll. Full of juicy meat. For entrees we enjoyed the rack of lamb which was cooked perfectly medium rare and the Lomo Saltado which the meat was so tender and tasty. Mario the manager came over to check on us. We told him this was our first time and he welcomed us and spoke of all of the other dishes they offer. Interesting experience after a recommendation from a friend. We made a reservation after the recommendation and found everything below expectations . Service was excellent , the atmosphere was fine and the staff was great. So, the food was the only issue along with price. Ok, I know pricing is up everywhere, but the meals have to meet those values. Appetizers, were mediocre , French fries good, Gallina spring roll, tasted like canned chicken. Fillet entree good, skirt steak special, fatty and tough. Even with a good presentation the food should be outstanding , not so much. I usually go to the downtown location where everything remains pristine but this time I tried the UTC location and I had a very similar experience. I have worked in the industry in the past and so I'm familiar with what needs to happen to make a great dining experience and my server Drew was exceptionally dialed in for a seamless dining experience. I also took note of the way the crew worked as a team, that is very rare to see. Plus Justin (manager) came over when we sat down, welcomed us and introduced himself and gave the best recommendations on starters to consider plus he gave individual wine recommendations to everyone at the table (nailed each one). It was all so spot on, starting with Justin, then Juan took over and the food just hit it perfectly. One of the top restaurants in town for sure! This place surprised me. It's a very upscale restaurant and the decor is dark and sexy. The food was beautiful and phenomenal. My waitress made the best drinks and provided great service. So why 4 stars. It took a long time for food to come out. Like too long. I came in for lunch at around 1145. I didn't leave till 2:09. And it may be because every dish look like a work of art when it came out, but I'd rather just have my food in a timely manner. That's way too long to be in a restaurant for lunch. I'm a repeat offender with dining here at Selva. Absolutely love everything about this restaurant. You can either dine at the bar or their main dining room. Their wait staff are always knowledgable, personable, friendly, and kind. The food and cocktails are amazing. They never miss and always consistent. Very bold, flavorful, and unique with some of their dishes. 10/10 highly recommend. Especially happy hour located in the bar area from 4p-6p. The have plenty seating at the bar, booths, and high top tables. They provide a selective menus of signature cocktails at $13, and half portions of dishes on that are on their full menu. This place knows how to create a perfect evening. On our arrival we were greeted like we were the most important people in the world and given a tour of the various seating options and our guide Mario (I think that is his name and I think he may be the manager and a great guy) then he gave us a complimentary appetizer that was so delicious. All the food was not only presented in the most beautiful fashion but tasted spectacular. My partner cannot do cilantro and most places that serve ceviche refuse to take it out .Not here. they are there for you and for the first time in decades he had the most marvelous ceviche. The wine list is overpriced, no vintages listed. Corkage is $25, well worth it in this case. Drinks, martinis all around, delicious and tasty, ok for price point. Food is hit and miss...for the prices, should be more on point. Crabcake - meh...frozen and microwaved? Peruvian spring roll...delicious...sauce is green mayo...meh. Braised short ribs over cous cous, a winner! Sea bass ok but not memorable. Ribeye, grisly and undercooked for medium rare. You get the idea. So a fun spot, decent food, good for drinks but BYO wine. This is one of my friend's favorite restaurants in the area so once in awhile I travel all the way from Miami to go here. The decor is nice and modern. Last time we sat outside since the weather was very nice. The service is great, Angelo Souflis at the helm is perfect, he is enthusiastic and knows how to motivate the team. The food is very good, churrasco is 5 stars, the empanadas also great, Sea Bass croquetas phenomenal, and the risotto have the lowest rating in my book, but it's not bad. read more

This was a delicious meal. Pricey, but delicious. Removing a start because it wasn't perfect. More on that below. My fiance and I used to go to the Selva in downtown Sarasota when I lived there. We'd go for happy hour for their flavored martinis and appetizers. Always enjoyed it there. These days, living in St Pete, our opportunities to check out new Sarasota restaurants don't come up very often. However, we were looking for a nice place to take my mother that had a good vegetarian option, and Selva opened up a second location at UTC near my office. Perfect. The restaurant is big with a nice outdoor patio, which is where we sat. Server was unobtrusive and very pleasant, as was the manager who came out to check on us. We started with drinks and Melissa and I split the Selva Wild Ceviche and my mother had their crab cakes. All of the appetizers were excellent, and Melissa enjoyed her mojito. My hazelnut old fashioned, not so much. For entrees, Melissa and I both got their vegetarian plate, which was flash fried tofu in a mirin sauce, I think. Maybe it was miso or hoisin. I forget. I could look it up but so could you. Anyway, an east Asia sauce with mushrooms and veggies. My mother got their chicken dish. It was all amazing. Every bite was fantastic. If there was one thing to complain about it was that the tofu was too thick. It would have been better if they halved the tofu and cooked the two halves. Regardless, it was very good. All of that said, I just cannot give them 5 stars when they bombed the old fashioned as badly as they did. You would think an old fashioned with hazelnut liqueur would be even sweeter then a typical old fashioned, but this one was dry and had no balance. I tasted bourbon, which is normally okay but you either need to give me straight bourbon (if that's what I ordered) or a balanced drink. An unbalanced bourbon drink tastes like bourbon that had been ruined. To top it off, they filled the glass with ice. At Selva's prices, that should be a single solid large cube. Period. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered an old fashioned at a Latin restaurant, but if its on your menu, make it right. So it wasn't perfect. Food is fantastic, service was excellent. As long as you don't order the hazelnut old fashioned, you should be fine. Just be prepared to spend a lot, especially if you're making a good meal out of it. Add in drinks and appetizers and this was an expensive meal for 3 people. However, I knew that going in and am not taking anything away for the price (except the price of the drink but the drink sucked). read more

My wife and I enjoyed Selva very much. Excellent service by Drew (I think?) who looked after my wife very nicely when I had to go pick up an asthma medication. That's beside the point - we sat outside, maybe a little loud with some of the yahoo's who have to show how loud their cars are, but otherwise very pleasant. We had the (three different) ceviche to start, then I had the tuna and my wife the swordfish and scallop. Absolutely horrible, we should have known when we walked in and the place was completely empty.. we paid $230 dollars for tiny portions of terrible food! The rice wrapped in a tamal leaf was gross, so were the pears with the short rib egg rolls... the red ceviche was super weird, never had a ceviche like that.. it was way to sweet to be anykind of good. Selva is one of my favorites whenever I am in Sarasota. I have been to both locations and usually visit the UTC restaurant because it is right off the highway. For dinner we started with ceviche and Tuna Tiradtio. Both had amazing mix of flavors. The citrus blend of the ceviche from Selva is the reason I rarely order this anywhere else. It's just too perfect here. Both appetizers are plated beautifully. For our main course we ordered the Selva Seafood Paella Risotto and the rack of lamb. The portion sizes are perfect with plenty to take home of my risotto. The service is always top notch with very pleasant staff from the moment you walk in the door. The decor is similar to the downtown location but a lot more room. With live DJs mixing music most nights I love my visits to Selva. read more
