Our server, Jessica was excellent and so was the food. Stopped on our way back to VA from SC. Conveniently located right off route 95 at a motel and next to two gas stations. We all got something different and we were all happy with our meals. I got the Camarones a la Mexicana, it was perfectly spicy for my taste. My friend (who dislikes Mexican food) got the Steak a la Mexicana and could not stop talking about how good it was. The teenagers got burritos and tacos and were both happy. Fantastic service and really great food. We stopped in for a quick bite while on our way back to Virginia and could not have been more pleased. Quick service, friendly, funny waitstaff. Complimentary chips and salsa for the table. Our food had lots of flavor. They all were perfectly seasoned. Huge portions and reasonable priced. I ordered the shrimp fajita (see picture). They were not cheap with the shrimp, very generous! My daughter ordered the whole fried fish platter...holy cow, it was huge and so flavorful. My husband and I hadn't been here in a while since we had a bad experience our last visit. We decided to give it another shot and they have definitely improved a whole lot. We ordered the Fajitas Texanas for two and they were very good! The only issue is that they overdo the veggies and BARELY give you meats. Great place to eat. It's in the same building as the Quality Inn, . Right off of 95. We had the fajitas, and it came with rice and beans, and homemade tortillas. Delicious. Right off I-95, attached to the Quality Inn, across the street from the Hampton Inn. Where we were staying. There was a steak house nearby but the reviews were skeptical, so we tried El Charro. We often "sniff" out the Mexican Restaurants when we are traveling. My initial assessment of a Mexican restaurant is testing the salsa, if the salsa is good, the food probably is too, and El Charro passed the test. Being critical of Mexican food, we usually only find 1 out 5 Mexican restaurants that pass the test. The food was pleasant was surprisingly good authentic Mexican food with reasonable prices. Hot tasty food, with good portion sizes, a large menu, with prompt and very friendly service. It was not hard to recognize the staff seemed to be dedicated please the customer. Just got the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life. Generous portion of fish, super juicy and seasoned perfectly. We were driving on 95 and didn't just want to get fast food. We called ahead for take out from El Charro grande. Im so glad we did. We had to wait a little bit for our order once we got there- but they were clearly in the middle of their after church lunch rush (we ARE in the south) but it was WELL worth the wait. Good solid authentic fresh-tasting food at an affordable price. We came for lunch as we were passing through the area. They started with the standard chips and salsa which were solid. Kids had beef chimichangas and hubby had a lunch special with burrito and enchilada all looked good. Had the standard lettuce, tomato, sour cream, avocado on the chimichangas which is always a nice add. I had the tortilla soup which was nice and fresh! A bit salty but great comfort food! My only real complaint was the facility. This is located inside a Quality Inn with restrooms in the hotel. Not awesome but clean. It was a disgusting purée with a hint of moldy flavor. You could tell that one of the ingredients definitely had mold on it and they had puréed it anyways. My husband ordered the chimichangas and I ordered the shrimp tacos. The beef in his chimichangas tasted like cat food. For those of you wondering yes I have tried cat food on a dare in college but I digress. My shrimp tacos were so covered in the chipotle sauce that is the only flavor you could taste. It was literally a sea of chipotle flavored mayonnaise. For the lady that called this a hidden gem I am assuming you traveled cross-country without stopping for food or water, you were malnourished and suffering from an altered mental status. Either that or you had chosen to save money and stopped at every dumpster throughout your trip down 95 so that an actual plate of food was a delicacy. Yes this food was that bad. We could not finish it and when the waitress asked if we want boxes to take it to go it was a polite but resounding no. I'm writing a review, so we don't forget to stop here when passing through Dunn, SC Right off I 95 and exit 73, sits the best Mexican food North of the border. The restaurant is next to a Shell gas station, and alongside a motel, so you might miss it. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. We had a Fajita taco (amazingly delicious), and white meat chicken tacos. Nothing was greasy, and the flavor of everything was perfection. We try and eat healthy during road trips, which can be challenging, especially when there are Cinnabon signs calling your name. But El Charro proves, you don't need fast food tacos, burgers and fries, when traveling I 95. read more

I'm going to give a sort of detailed review of this place. My kids and I had to stop here in Dunn half way for our trip to Hilton Head. It was too much driving alone with three kids. We asked our check in lady at the hotel and she recommended it. So we hopped in the car for four minutes. They were SO NICE THERE. Our waiter was the sweetest guy and was really great with my kids. My kids loved their quesadillas and my tacos were really great. Hot and fresh and the meat was good. The rice and beans were yummy too and were seasoned well, something that's often lacking. Downsides (and why it's not 5 stars) is that my margarita was DEFINITELY a mix and the guacamole was out of some package. But like, we're in Dunn so.... It was perfect for what we needed. Came here from out of town. I was not disappointed. The pricing is amazing and your receive very large portions. The staff was amazing, and worked the restaurant well. The drinks never stayed half empty, and they sang happy birthday for a nearby table. They were full of life and amazing energy. The guacamole is by far the best guacamole I have had in a restaurant. Ordered Yani's Chicken Enchiladas. I think if I stopped there, I would have gotten it sooner, but I like to order Chili Rellanos whenever I go to a Mexican Restaurant for the first time. I chose the Poblano rellano tonight. I'm guessing they do not get many orders for rellanos. Anyway, the food came about 20 minutes later and the rellanos was served hot, but the enchiladas, sitting under a bed of cold guacamole and diced tomatoes was only luke warm, almost cold. Next time I visit, I'll tell them to go ahead and serve the enchiladas if its ready and not wait for the rellano. Very fair prices, good food, large portions. Wait staff very apologetic and came by every 5 minutes to ask if everything is OK. Had the enchiladas been served hot I would have given them five stars. read more
