I've had the breakfast tacos to-go and the sauces are amazing the quesadillas are juicy and filling. Today I went inside and had a proper sit down. The place was pretty packed during lunch. Damn I like this place. I was driving east of downtown looking for Mexican food. I wanted to try someplace I've never visited and drove by El Charro MB&G. The parking lot was full at 1:10 pm...a good sign. I was immediately greeted by a very nice lady and told to sit anywhere. It smelled very good inside. I found a two top and had a seat. I was quickly brought a menu by another very nice lady. I ordered the Mariachi plate (three beef enchiladas, rice & beans. While waiting for my lunch I noticed how clean the place was. I was brought chips and two salsas, one green and one red. Both were very good with a nice kick and great flavor. The red a little more spicy than the green. Food came after a while and as soon as I saw my plate I knew it was going to be good. Well I was wrong...it was GREAT! Everything cooked fresh with zero processed anything. Real refried beans, real cheese and damn good ground beef in the enchiladas. Chopped tomatoes and shredded lettuce both very fresh. I love lettuce and tomatoes with enchiladas so I was thrilled they were added. More food than I could eat and $12 on lunch menu. Everything was excellent and I'll be back for sure! read more

Nice clean space. Friendly staff. Ordered the American breakfast which included 2 eggs,2 pieces of bacon, hashbrowns, and a sausage patty. The eggs were cooked over medium as requested, the toast was nicely buttered, the bacon was not crispy nor was the hash browns. Overall it was just ok. Bf had the migas but it came out as chilequiles not migas but the waitress argued that it was migas. I'll give it 1 more chance, maybe come Tuesday for their steak special which comes with a potato, charro beans or a salad for $11.99. read more

I would not go there again! I ordered Pozole and it was like eating salt soup. I only had 2 spoonfuls of the broth. I didn't even have any pork. I told the server and she gladly exchanged it for something else. So I got the #29 Azteca plate. T-Bone steak salty was well. I had 2 bites and had my bf try it just to make sure it wasn't just me. He agreed that they both were salty. So I told the server and I didn't get anything after that. For what. I do t like throwing food away but damn these were nothing but salt. Any way, server said they would take it off my tab since I did not eat it but manager comes out saying I have to pay bc it was just me that was tasting too much salt. They tried it and they said it was fine. So I had to pay for a meal I didn't eat. She made me feel like I was trying to get a free meal. And had an attitude on which I got her attention on. I haven't been here in years and came because my husband wanted menudo. We called ahead to verify they do have the honeycomb tripe which is always the best for menudo but sadly to report no handmade flour tortillas, which is a shame especially if you're going to say your restaurant is authentic. The owner should consider sourcing from a local bakery. We also ordered the Chilaquiles which would have been great if the sauce was fresh. The sauce was too dry and the tortillas tasted a bit rancid. Overall, the food was delicious. They do serve handmade corn tortillas. The restaurant and restrooms are updated and clean. Everything was wonderful at this establishment that stays super busy. The fresh salsas and chips were great. The service was quick and the ambiance is casual. Many in law enforcement come here to eat as well as the local business people. Cute little place I would visit again and recommend trying out. Staff is very attentive and offered to go drinks and extra servings of sauces and chips at no additional cost. Loved everything. I have been to this location several times and the last three times have been a major disappointment. I placed a take out order at the restaurant and it's def the last time I'll be going to this place. The menudo didn't have hominy as requested and whoever made it was angry. It was super spicy. The tacos were horrible as the flour tortilla was dry and stale. The chips were stale, greasy, and cold. We have tried El Charro several times because it's conveniently close and owned by locals. I have tried something different every time, and each time, I have been disappointed. It's not bad, but it's not necessarily great either. You can expect a pretty middle of the road and inexpensive new from El Charro. They have so have a drivethru, which is convenient. read more

I fix better Enchiladas than what I just got. Who doesn't put real Enchilada sauce on the tortillas before you roll them. The meat is unseasoned and its so much thick cheese all over everything everywhere. Its Sloppy and Horrible. We came on a Saturday night all decked out in costumes for Halloween and the table was ready for us when we got there! We had reservations but it wasn't very busy! Service was phenomenal - we got everything we ordered and they kept checking back with us to make sure we had everything we needed! And the passion fruit margaritas!!! Omg yum! I love passion fruit as it is so the flavors were delish! Add an extra topper of tequila and you're good to go! And did I mention it was $5 per shot of Jose Cuervo?! Solid tacos. We came here for a second dinner because we were still hungry and we had the al pastor tacos and the Barbacoa tacos. Both were good, the al pastor was slightly better flavor wise, but we loved how juicy the barbacoa were. The taco portions we're very generous and especially considering the price. I love the food here but when me and my daughter came today, they all started looking at us funny when we sat which I find that really weird especially when I literally used to come in here all of the time last year on my lunch and even while I worked. I found a Mexican eatery right by my new favorite neighborhood - East End - and damn. It was good. And completely affordable. The menu is filled with all of your affordable Mexican eats: enchies, tortas, tacos, caldos, flautas, kids menu... they even offer hamburguesas. For lunch, my friend and I both opted for the Tex-Mex lunch special (~$7), which included two enchies of choice, carne guisada, frijoles, rice and guac. (And no, the guac wasn't extra.) The food taste homemade - the carne guisada would certainly impress my madre. I'm normally a soup/caldo person, but it was about $8-9. Perhaps it's a large serving - I'll find out next time. The chips and salsas that came out were good. The salsa verde was more my style; the red had a smoky chipotle flavor (if that's your thing). Overall, the food was great for the price point, and it all didn't come out over-salted or over-spiced. Actually, we added lime and salt to the chips and salsa which perfected it. Wife and I were in the area looking for a place with good food and nice establishments without paying and arm and a leg. Food was good and service was also good. The ruin of the night came when my wife ordered some flautas and she thought they her order would come with some lettuce. She asked the waitress if she could have a small portion of lettuce to go with her flautas so they wouldn't be completely dry. We knew that there could be an additional $1.00-$1.50 charge which we were ok with paying but when we got our bill it was $4.00. for lettuce. A full head of lettuce is not that much at the store. A charro is basically horseman from central or northern Mexico. Typically more of a show person, charros were flashy and had the big hats and boots and knew how to restrain the horse. El Charro is nothing like that. It's a straightforward, clean, bright, open restaurant in Houston's Second Ward near the Metro Coffee Plant Station. The location features a full bar which I'm sure amps up the place at night. The food is pretty good. Tex Mex is more akin to the cuisine served here and they do it well. I had the migas plate along with a barbacoa taco and a carne guisada one. Oh, I was ready. The tacos were very good; the meat wasn't dry and had some good flavor. The migas are really good as well. Delicious Mexican Cuisine. I came across El Charro this afternoon while scrolling on DoorDash. As usual, DoorDash was simple to use and convenient. But, we all know you're still reading this post to learn about the food! El Charro did not disappoint. I ordered the Chile Relleno plate. The plate was fresh and delicious. The beans were silky and excellently seasoned. The rice had bold flavors. The Chile was stuffed to the brim with filling, but still kept its shape. The filling was a mixture of ground beef and other vegetables. The hint of cilantro elevated the dish to another level. The stuffed Chile comes covered in a mild red sauce. You can tell the sauce was made fresh because you could see chunks of fresh tomato and onion. I highly recommend El Charro. Excellent food at a fair price with dine in and delivery options! I go back months later deciding to give it a fair try and as we're eating our chips a roach crawls out of it. and to make matters worse the waitress looked so confused as to why we didn't want our food when she brought them to the table. And then the manager sorts through our chips as if we'd be lying about a roach in them! We hadn't even paid for our meal yet, let alone ate our main course. We weren't trying to dine and dash.
