This place was okay, pretty pricey for the quality of food in my opinion. They did have options I have never seen at a Mexican restaurant before and of course I decided to try one. The Tlayuda was very interesting; kind of like a pizza concept but very very thin, black beans, interesting types of meat, guac, cabbage, etc. I didn't like it very much unfortunately as I felt like some of the meat wasn't very good but that's just my opinion. You have to pay to get salsa and chips which most Mexican restaurants give for free, and that wasn't very good either. Authentic but mediocre. Service wise it wasn't the best either, we waited awhile, had to ask for water, she was nice but wasn't the best Inside is pretty small, they have group tables but it's like you sit all in a line. This rare find is tucked behind in a small strip mall in which there were a few closed shops but don't let the looks dissuade you. We ordered the queso fundido with homemade tortillas. This was worth the mini heart attack. The cheese was plentiful on top of chorizo. The only problem was they don't give you enough tortillas. No worries, we just used a fork to get it down. I ordered the dish in my photo that I can't remember. At first sight, I was a little disappointed with the thin meat on top but the total plate together was soooo good. The red saice was delicious. We are used to the same ol', same ol' Mexican food, but this location is a new adventure. First, the service was great. We didn't understand the descriptions on the menu and our waitresses were excellent in trying to explain the plates. The Tlayuda was the perfect appetizer. We honestly thought is was something like chips and salsa, but we were surprisingly incorrect. It was like a size of a small pizza but a corn flour crust topped with black beans, cabbage, and shredded cheese. It wasn't melting hot, but still good! The slice of marinated pork was in the middle. I liked my Tasajo Encebollado a lot! Sure, there are pictures on the menu, but the dish is much better. Thinly sliced beef, onion, black beans, and green chillis. Scoop it all up and wrap in a corn tortilla and you got yourself a great meal. I felt I was served a lot, and that is not a complaint. My boyfriend enjoyed the Alambre Plate. He decided to check online for what this dish was and he expected bacon. He got ham, which I can argue is probably a Oaxacan cooked way to cook bacon. He liked his dish, wanted more meat, but he didn't complain. His dish was served with black beans and rice. Overall, this was an excellent experience and we would go again. read more

Tlayuda is an appetizer that is like a crisp tostada on a cracker-thin blue corn tortilla spread with black beans, cabbage, white cheese, guacamole and your choice of meat. Had the carne asada wet burrito with red salsa, burrito was on the bigger size and very filling. Also had the chilaquiles verdes, one of the best I've tasted anywhere. Took my friend on my third visit and he had the mixed fajitas which he enjoyed very much. They also serve cold draft beers and micheladas. I saw this ad on yelp for El Charro Oaxaca and was in the mood to try a New Mexican restaurant from the many here in the high desert. We started off with the complimentary chips and salsa which was good. The chicharrones and guacamole was the best. Not only were the pork rinds cooked fresh and to order, the price and amount you got made it more delicious. My wife and I both ordered the flat iron grilled fish, which for $11.99 you got a whole tilapia with all the sides and choice of tortillas. Not only was it very tasty, food it is more than worth the price. We were way too full to order dessert, but I'm sure it would've been delicious. My only complaint was the service was a bit slow, but for a family owned restaurant it was acceptable. I highly recommend this new restaurant. I was on a mission to find the authentic Mexican food that I know exists in this part of the country. This place hit the spot! I was spoiled in Phoenix AZ, so I have a good idea of what I want. Upon entering, this shop was empty. I was immediately greeted and I found multiple options for vegetarian food. I love molé, corn tortillas and horchata. The dish I ordered was cheese tamales covered in molé sauce. It came with a side of beans and rice. This molé wasn't overly sweet and it had a kick. After scarfing up the tamales, I had leftover sauce I didn't want wasted. I flagged down my waitress and let he know I wanted some corn tortillas. She asks if I wanted fresh ones...I was so excited and absolutely ordered fresh hand made tortillas. I was so full and happy after visiting this place. The corn tortillas have changed my expectations of what I'm going to look for in the next Mexican restaurant I visit. read more
