When we showed up we were greeted by Brenda, she was super nice and hospitable. She explained all the items to us on the menu and gave great recommendations. Ordered a buy one get one "California supreme". Guacamole must be ancient the way it tasted like the leftover brown guacamole that's been sitting in your fridge for days that you try and immediately throw away because it tastes like it's rotting. It was so foul tasting it ruined both burritos. The fries were also soggy which is insane. Cheese on it but couldn't taste it. Beyond that the carne didn't even have any flavor to save the day which is devastating because it was just a full waste of food and money. Maybe if they didn't saturate the burrito with the foul rotting guac they were clearly trying to get rid of then the burritos would've been edible. Trying to scrape the carne away from the soggy fries and brown rotten guacamole was irritating and didn't work. Last, the burritos were small which is insane since they're supposed to be "SUPREME" and $20 each normally. The food was fine, but the overall experience was disappointing. After placing and paying for our order, my girlfriend and I waited about 25 minutes with no update. Eventually, the employee who had taken our order came back and asked us what we had ordered because our order had apparently been forgotten. What made the experience even worse was the atmosphere inside the restaurant. A group of customers repeatedly made us feel uncomfortable during our visit, and at one point customers were smoking inside the restaurant. Not only was this unpleasant while trying to eat, but it also raised concerns about the restaurant's enforcement of basic rules and consideration for other guests. The combination of the forgotten order, the long wait, the uncomfortable interactions, and customers smoking indoors left us with a negative impression. I hope management takes steps to improve service and maintain a more welcoming and respectful environment for everyone dining there. read more

Late night happenings, bring late night things. It was late, things were closed, but we were fresh off a Humphrey's high, and we were FAMISHED! Bellies touching backs, we knew we were in dire straits. MUST EAT FOOD. When all else fails, Yelp to the rescue. After a quick search, followed by intrusively sliding into some Yelp elite reviews, El Charro emerged as a viable candidate. "Lyft, bring me my steed"...and off we went. Prices were fair, salsas were fresh and spicy, and the carne asada fries were kickin' like Chun Li. Did I just find a new go-to establishment for all of my Mexican cravings??? We're visiting from AZ and wanted some good Mexican food. I was browsing through Yelp and found this place. We decided to try it as it was down the street from where we were staying. I cannot tell you enough how glad I am we went. First of all, we were greeted so pleasantly by the owner who was not only sweet but beautiful. She was so kind to our boys which is another plus for us. We ordered our food after looking at their selection. There was so much I wanted to try but I got the enchiladas. The green sauce was spicy but absolutely delicious! The chips are fresh and yummy. I'm picky with my beans and rice because I'm Mexican and no one makes better beans and rice than my mama but these beans and rice were FIRE! My family and I left there with full bellies. Went to this taco shop because we were searching for Mexican food near the hotel where my in-laws are staying. We took a chance and figured we would try this little quaint taco shop located in a strip mall on Midway Drive and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We got the quesadilla, rolled tacos, burritos, chips, and beans and everything was delicious! Even the salsas were delicious with the perfect level of spice. The green salsa was my favorite, The young woman and young man were so nice and personable. I liked them as much as I liked the food. We were the only customers in there which is surprising considering how good the food is and how great the service is. My in laws are only in SD for a few more days and we will be returning. I had an early morning doc visit and was in need of breakfast and thankfully they were open (7:30am during the week). I got the chilaquiles and boy did they have a kick in the most flavorful way! Someone else was there picking up a large order so that was promising to me that the food would be good. I ate half there and took the rest to go and the guys in the back were nice enough to pack me some fresh chips to go (the chips can get soggy with chilaquiles). Ordered a California burrito and 4 rolled tacos. The burrito was majority fries, a lot of extra tortilla and not much carne asada, disappointing. The meat had a decent marinate but there wasn't nearly enough to make it feel like an actual burrito, fries were crispy at least. This past weekend, I had my first visit to El Charro. How have I not known about this place before? As a former San Diegan, I've been to numerous taco spots in the city, and this one is definitely on my top 5 list! First of all, they were open in the morning. And as a person who isn't huge into breakfast food, this place's availability was perfect! I ordered a carne asada plate. First of all, $17 for a carne asada plate in 2025? It's an amazing deal! When I saw the price, I was thinking that the portion would be a bit smaller, but it's definitely in line with all of the other taco shops I've visited in SD. The meat was seasoned well and not overcooked. The pico tasted fresh, the tortillas were hot, the guac was amazing, and the rice wasn't overcooked. If I had to pick one thing to complain about - and it's probably on me as I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere - it would would the fact that it did not come with refried beans. I'm not taking off any stars because it's probably mentioned, and I didn't see it. But my personal preference is refried beans so I was a bit disappointed that it didn't come with any. I guess I'll need to start asking ahead of time. While I don't think this is on the restaurant themselves, I will say parking in this area is trash so be aware if you decide to make the drive to El Charro. Overall, yes. I'd go again. For a $17 carne asada plate, I'll go every single time I'm back to visit SD. Also, the dude who was working was super nice. I don't know his name, but to whomever was working in the morning on 9/6? Such a great find yesterday! After being on the water for 2 hours, I wanted something good and quick without having to sit down for a full dining experience. When we came in we were helped immediately with the best kind of friendly neighborhood service. While chatting with the cashier, he even taught us a little Spanish to get it right--lol. What more can I say about this place? They serve homestyle Mexican food at a great price and their owners make you feel like you are familia! Today I had the chorizo burro and let me tell you, it was ginormous & delicious! The sausage was not greasy like other places and it blended well with the potatoes, cheese and guac. As others have mentioned, the flour torts are soft, flaky and actually have flavor! This meal was enough for two. But the main reason to love this place is by the way this beautiful couple treats their patrons - not like customers but guests. Each and every time I visit, I am greeted genuinely by both the Mr. & Mrs. running the show. And this is not just a one-off. I always observe wonderfully warm interactions with everyone approaching the counter, even today I heard "it's not your fault, don't worry," as a gentleman was struggling with the credit card kiosk. Time and again these fine folks engage in authentic conversation where their goal is for you to feel welcomed. In a day and age when life brings us mostly transactional experiences after the now standard "hi, welcome in," El Charro is truly a breath of fresh air.
