I got the Suizas enchiladas and they were some of the best I've ever eaten! I got 2 large chicken enchiladas with rice and a choice of black or refried beans. They had tender flavorful chicken lots of cheese, sour cream and tasty mild green sauce. They have a good variety of beers on tap, however, no liquor. Service was great! Authentic Mexican food in HWY 101, service is great, they gave you a lot of food that can serve 2 people, however, if you are traveling and you only use credit card, they will not accept tip with that, so just be ready and have cash for tip. Damn delicious. We discovered El Chicano in Willits, and I can say that I wish that I had some of the pollo de Mole right now. The wait staff is sweet and attentive. We were seated right away, and chips with four different salsas were brought with the menus. Yummmm! We ordered two crispy tacos, one with carnitas, and Asada in the other. They arrived loaded with tasty meat, and covered with cheese. They were loaded! The mole... I'm in love. It was so freaking delicious!! We couldn't get enough. I came in for dinner with my small, quiet shih tzu. The owner told us we had to sit outside, saying they sometimes allow dogs inside--but not tonight, because there were "teachers inside." That comment left me feeling uncomfortable and honestly, discriminated against. Are locals or certain professions treated better here? I understand if there's a strict no-dogs policy, but if it's selectively enforced based on who the customers are, that's not okay. Also, as a school psychologist myself, I found the reasoning a bit ironic. The food didn't make up for the experience either. The chicken was dry, the rice didn't taste like authentic Mexican rice, and overall the meal was bland. My pup and I won't be coming back. read more

Was skeptical for stopping by this little town for food, seemed like a ghost town and at 10pm there were not that many food options left. This was one of the few places that was open late, thankfully. We were driving a long drive from crescent city to the bay. The mexican food here is seasoned well and tasty. If you're checking the reviews to see if you should go there, I recomend you go there. they accept card but tip is cash only. My partner and I only had card and he mentioned to the server we dont have cash. The server was kind about it and the service didn't change after my partner told him that. Most importantly; Food came out fast, food quality was great, ambiance was welcoming and lastly the serivce was easy going and warm. So glad we stopped by there. oh and anothung thing, my partner is vegetarian and they have vegetarian options as well! My favorite thing was the feeling I got, being freezing cold and then walking into the warm and cozy restaurant. First off, the young man in the restaurant could not have been more helpful. We wanted to watch a basketball game and he was so helpful trying to find it for us. We couldn't get the game but ordered and watched on our phone. The salsas and beans were delish. My husband had the enchiladas and raved about them. Exceptional flavors on the Trio Fajitas. Beef, chicken and shrimp all cooked beautifully and very hot. Very pleasant staff and nice decor. Dinner is still hot halfway through. Very good sides, fresh guacamole, refried black beans, Mexican rice and a fresh poco de gallo. It is what you would expect, but many other restaurants just don't deliver. What a find in Willits, CA! We had fun. Decided to eat here on our way to Glass Beach. Spent time seeing what other places may be open and based on other reviews tried it out. Atmosphere is underwhelming but in line with the area. It was 93 and had hoped for cool air but they only had fans. Server was super nice, pretty much by himself. Was looking for a good place to sit down and grab some food and have a cold drink after a long days drive and El Chicano fit the bill. A relaxed environment, my buddy and I were told to sit wherever we liked so we grabbed a both and waited. Good food on all accounts - my meal was really good and my buddy said his was as well. I went for the Chile Verde plate it was a good serving, fork tender pork done very well, the green sauce was rich and flavorful and a nice bowl of chili, standard sides of rice and with a choice of beans along with guacamole that was so fresh and delicious and a pico that was also very good, along with three corn tortillas - this is a filling and delicious meal if you like Chile Verde, this is a good one. Ordered a cold beer, on tap went for a Modelo Especial, it was a solid choice with my meal and definitely a good fit with dinner. The service was off, that was the only drawback - maybe an off night? Seemed slow and that we were outta sync with everything else, it took extra time with every step? Ordering, getting silverware, our drinks coming out all took extra time and/or a second or third request even, we asked for water three times and still never got water glasses? It just seemed like service was off, the food very good though and even with the delays and missteps well worth the effort to stop and come in. Best Mexican restaurant in Willits....and if you know....you know..... Don't even know where to start but the Michelada is off the chain!! My go-to used to be the Alambra but last time, got the mole and holy shit! I had heard about it but had no idea!!!! That stuff is fire! Boyfriend gets the chilaquiles every time and since it's enough for 3 average size humans- he shares a few bites with me. The only thing this place is missing - for the Memphis girl who knows a different kind of Mexican food, is melted blanco cheese dip. (And a liquor a license)....but baby steps. Haha. read more

I'm in search of the best Pozole around the world El Chicano's Pozole is one of a kind. Among all the Pozole's I've tried (across the US and Mexico) theirs was the first Pozole I've had that had way more meat than Hominy Corn. It was LOADED with tender meat. Yummy! The broth was tasty and I appreciate them taking the excess oil out of the broth. Their carne Asada was commendable. Love the lean juicy steak and how it was complemented with mexican rice and refried beans. I could not express how good their steak Nachos was. For starters, it was visually appealing. The way the chunk of steaks was smothered with melted mexican cheese mix made my mouth water. It was delectable as it was visually appealing. Not only was it loaded with a generous serving of cheeseand steak, it was also topped with guacamole, sour cream, and Pico de Gallo. The kids burrito was good. Delicious, family-owned restaurant. The food is more flavorful than other local Mexican restaurants. The house pumpkin-based salsa is to die for. Also love that refried beans are served with the salsas. Chile Verde is exceptional. Also like what they did to the building. More of a SoCal vibe. If the owner is wondering or noticed that every three months some Butch looking white woman comes through and gets 2 orders of Pesole "to go" it's me. I drive through Willits each quarter for a business meeting in the Sacramento Valley from Humboldt county. Each of those Sunday afternoons I stop and get two orders of this amazing Pesole. I'm not a chef so I don't know how to accurately describe it to you. I love that it's got rib meat, not too much in the way of heat but because it doesn't rely on heat. It leans into the rich flavors of the chili's. I've been know to drink the broth from the container because I can't wait to get home. And, it comes with all the goodies! Tortillas, chips, 3 different salsas, cabbage, cilantro, onion and lime on the side to add as you choose. My only hesitation in writing this review is that it will get popular and they'll run out! WOW. Was driving between the Redwoods and the Bay and just happened to stumble upon this place. It was phenomenal. I'm not kidding when I say their refried beans were the best I've had in my life. The carne asada was spot on. Even the frickin' water was good (they added fresh lemon and lime). So good! We were driving through town on our way from Fort Bragg to Santa Rosa and were looking for a place to eat late breakfast. This was the first place we saw so stopped. We were the only customers when we arrived just before 11 which made me nervous. Chips, beans and salsas were great. Chilaquiles with pastor and huevos rancheros were some of the best we have had. Their red sauce was excellent. By the time we left, the place was busy. I highly recommend it! read more
