Decent tacos. Barbacoa soup was so salty as to be almost unedible. I love salt, but this was crazy. Guy behind the counter was zero help and not interested in being there, really. I LOVE this place! It's very close to my apartment and they have great ingredients. The burritos (in my mind are unreasonably priced though), but I came from California where 24 hr burrito places are everywhere and a burrito usually cost 6 bucks.**** ****I eat here a lot and normally have a great experience... BUT tonight ( 9/17) sucked!! Some curly haired girl is running the register, my boyfriend and I come in and order 2 California burritos and 2 Cokes. First of all the doesn't even know what a California burrito is and we have to explain it to her. She then asks US, "Do you want beans and rice on that too?" and we say "No". Rings us up and the total is 17 and change. While we wait for the burrito, she gives us two Topo Chicos when we ordered Cokes. Then we get our burritos which turns out to be a single burrito (we ordered 2). Since the price was 17 bucks, we assumed that was for 2 burritos and 2 cokes. Turns out, this lady charged us 13 dollars per burrito!! If I wanted to pay 13 dollars for a burrito, I would have just gone to Chipotle. THEN we get home to eat our burritos and lo and behold there's rice and beans on the burritos. I know this is a tad dramatic to be this upset about burritos, but I go out to eat ONCE every paycheck cycle. I often go here because it reminds me of home. The flour tortillas were oddly mushy... I don't know what it was that caused it, but it was a real turnoff. It was like they had gotten wet or something.... I tried to just focus on the quality of the meats, but they weren't that great either... Pibil was tough, barbacoa was ok, pastor had too much pineapple... the best thing I got was the Puffy Taco... So I've been in the neighborhood around this location for about 3 years now, used to visit this location pretty frequently because of its proximity and watermelon agua fresca, but haven't been in over a year after the thought of paying $3-4 for a single taco really started to bug me. So, decided to visit today on a whim and order a quick breakfast for me and my lady. 2 migas tacos, Charlie's special and a Barbacoa, with a small watermelon agua fresca - 4 tacos and a drink for almost 20 bucks. The price alone reminded me why I've strayed from this establishment. The tacos were ok... store bought tortillas​, the ingredients were fresh, but really nothing spectacular, and not as good as I remember, but that could be my frugal self still mad over the price for a taco on a store bought tortilla.. Hell, there's even gas station taco chains that make their flour tortillas fresh, to order *hint hint*. Anyway... the salsa is good, but you really need two of these tiny cups of salsa they give you for each taco. The agua fresca was still delicious, and loaded with more ice than liquid as I remember... makes me wonder what keeps people coming back, and why I came back for so long. All in all, this place just makes me sad, and I think I'll keep ordering my cheaper, more authentic tacos elsewhere. read more

Chilito is such a great place to stop for lunch. The servers are friendly and fast. They make my favorite breakfast taco in all of the world, the Cherrywood. As someone who, for a couple of years now, would go to El Chilito on a biweekly basis, I can safely say that generally these tacos are either a hit-or-miss. While their agua frescas, bean and avocado tacos and queso are quite good, I have unfortunately been disappointed in their breakfast tacos, which are one of my favorite foods in the world. There were numerous occasions where I would get very runny/partially uncooked eggs mixed in. A few times I had gotten little eggshells; once it seemed like nearly an entire egg's worth of shell was crushed up into my taco! Most of the tacos do not strike me as anything extraordinary or unique; they're essentially very basic tacos that comes with a very good salsa to add to your taco as desired. I do enjoy the outdoor atmosphere, and I still occasionally meet up with friends to eat there, but I will not be as frequent of a customer as I used to be. read more

I stopped on the way into work one morning, trying to find local breakfast tacos near the office. I noticed about a dozen tortillas laid out on the griddle after I placed my order. Then I noticed no one watching them. After about the 4th person placed an order, someone came from the back and flipped the (now hard) tortillas. I ordered a simple taco, eggs and beans, and the person making the taco dumped about 3/4 a CUP of refried beans onto the taco. No. Just no. It wasn't good. And I'm not a fan of roasted salsa. Great authetic style tacos and burritos, good prices and atrentive order takers. This is an old style walk-up window order set-up. The order is then collected at another window. They have so.many scrumptious options for tacos and burritos that in order to try them all I would need to make several trips. Onw thing they have that I love is pork pebil. I got one of those burritos. Plus a pork and nopales taco off of the daily specials menu. My wife got a couple of barbacoa tacos. Everything was delicious! I frequent this place for what they self-proclaim as the "best hungover taco spot" and they are indeed correct... the Charlie's Special is my favorite. I live down the street and given this place a shot several times and I have not had a single good experience but after this last time I feel like I should say something about it. I've lived in Texas my whole life and Austin for the past 8 years, so I've had my fair share of tacos. If I'm hungry enough I usually don't even care but they don't even try here. They HAVE to know their tacos are terrible. My friend and I tried to figure out if we've had tacos that have been worse than these and we honestly could not think of one place. That's pretty bad. Ymmm. Always, ym. I love their puffy taco option! I've never been disappointed by my food here. Everything seems fresh and made to order, unlike many other taco joints in the area. The menu has something for everyone and I'm officially hooked on the Ojo Rojo, horchata with espresso! However, the frozen sangria and mimosas could be a lot better. They taste like they are made with a flavoring syrup. It's just off. Also, they neeeeed to do something about all the flies. I don't normally post reviews but I am shocked this place has such a high review. love it's look and have been meaning to give it a try. My husband and I tried it out for the first time after meaning to for a year and a half and we were bummed that literally everything tasted "meh". I The best thing I had was the chicken soup which was not memorable, just decent soup. The fish taco had overly-fishy tasting fried nuggets balls of fish in it (i know - it's fish! But it was that kind that just smelled and tasted almost fresh water fishy...). I ended up mostly just forking up the slaw which I liked. My Pibul taco was ok...the meat almost had a gamey aftertaste which made me question the pork quality. I liked the onions on it! But also only could do two bites. My husband said his puffy taco tasted like "something from Taco Bell" and was bummed the fish ceviche salad tasted so plain. After trailing we barely ate our food, we were like "oh yay! We still have chips and guac! You can't fuck that up. Not true. All tasteless. We threw out almost everything save the bag of uneaten chips incase we passed a homeless person on the way home. Y'all, we were hungry and are NOT food snobs. We also had gotten $2 frozen sangrias which were very sour. My husband through our 3-4 if his. I finished it because I don't waste alcohol. Seriously. I almost wanted to stop a family I saw walking up to order as we were leaving and say "save your money!!! You will just leave hungry and bummed!!!"
