El Churrero at Twin Oaks Wedding Venue

My husband and I knew we wanted churros at our wedding! We hired El Churrero per our wedding coordinator's recommendation and we're so happy that we did! We inquired via email and it was a simple process. The staff were super friendly and the churros were freshly made and delicious. They were a big hit at our wedding! Highly recommended!

We hired El Churrero to cater the dessert (churros) for our wedding this past October 2023. I sent a form submission in May to get pricing/availability and got a prompt response with the pricing sheet and info that there was a $350 travel fee to LA. Since the travel fee was steep in my opinion, I wanted to do a little more research and price out other churro options in the LA area. It took me a few weeks but I ultimately decided to go with El Churrero - the aesthetic and minimal space needed with the cart could not be beat. So in June I sent a follow up email (on the same tread) asking if the date was still available and quickly received a separate email (not on the previous email thread) for a deposit to save the date. The deposit was $250 which I paid immediately and I thought that was a done deal, but days later I received a response to my previous email stating that the day was already reserved. I clarified that I submitted my deposit days before and verified the date and location of our event. Tyler mentioned that there was confusion with his admin person who responded to my email and things were squared away. I reached out via email in September to touch base since our wedding was 1 month out and all of our other caterers had already reached out to us except El Churrero. I did not receive any response for 4 days so I called but no answer and I left a voicemail. Tyler did call me back shortly after and apologized stating that he will have to follow up with his admin person to why I received no response and he responded to my email later that day. Come the afternoon before our wedding, I get a call from my day of coordinator telling me to not freak out but the churro caterers cancelled. I shortly after received an email from Tyler explaining that they would not be able to cater our event because their cart was damaged "beyond repair" at an event the night prior and he was unsuccessful in getting it fixed in time for our event. He offered to return our deposit ASAP, which he did and apologized for the inconvenience. It really was an inconvenience since we opted for churros instead of cake and we now had 24 hours to find and book someone else. Luckily I was able to book a paleta (popsicle) vendor that I follow on instagram but had to pay an extra $250 rush fee since they had less than 24 hours to prep by this point. All in all I should have followed my gut and found a different caterer when I lost confidence in them back in June when there was confusion about the date being booked. The El Churrero team seems to lack the communication and follow through that is crucial in the catering and event planning world. There are already so many stressors that come with planning a wedding, an unreliable caterer should not be one of them, so I would not recommend El Churrero based on my experience working with them.

I'm deeply saddened and terrified of the threats Tyler (the owner) made towards my Family. My husband and I hired him for our wedding and we received nothing but bad service and were forced to pay (800$+) for a service that we did not receive. After the lack of communication and arriving late we had no choice but to send El Currero away as most of our guest had already left. Tyler harassed my husband daily for a whole month & went out of his way to find out where his Elderly parents lived and included their address in his threats. As excited as I was to have them at our wedding, I have been living In fear hoping that he doesn't act on his threats as he continued harassing our family even after we payed. Here is proof of payment and some of the inappropriate messages he sent.

I love c that c they had a self serve salsa bar. Must get the chipotle shrimp taco! 10/10 with flavor. Battered fish taco was ah ok.... Salmon taco was great too 10/10. Service was prompt. There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

They had the buy 2 get 1 free deal which pushed me to try new meats since I always stick to adobada. ADOBADA HANDS DOWN FIREEE! I love me a good al pastor taco and they make it just right. Super flavorful, juicy and packed w/ meat. I'm always hesitant to try asada because I haven't found a good spot here in SD, but this one was bomb! The meat had great flavor, a smokey taste and was loaded with guac. I'd order one again. The lengua was perfect too, super tender and fell apart just right. They don't skimp on the meats either. Most of the salsas were tasty and had great flavor and the habanero had the perfect kick ! I heard of this spot because my friend had them cater her baby shower and I had to come try the actual spot. Def brought the same energy. Inside is nice and has a good vibe, love all the decor. Service was super sweet! Horchata was bomb too, not to sweet and they said it's homemade! Parking.. good luck, but def worth trying. 10000/10

The ordering process was simple enough, quick and friendly service. However I took mine to go, and it was a mess. It was literally dripping oil from the burrito and made such a mess that I didn't even want to eat the 2nd half after eating the first. To be honest it wasn't very tasty either. I didn't even take a pic of the burrito because I was so focused on it not ruining the counter space in the hotel. It served it's purpose of fueling me, but definitely wouldn't recommend it or go back.

This was my first time trying a taco Vampiro style (crunchy and cheesy), it was great. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The location of the menu vs the counter didn't work well - you couldn't see the menu when ordering so everyone had to keep looking back and forth just to place each order (they need to fix the signage or layout). Service was super fast. It came with a small plate of cucumbers, radishes, and limes. They also dropped off 2 salsa bottles - a super spicy habanero salsa, and a medium spicy salsa verde. They had plenty of seating inside or outside on picnic tables. I sat outside to enjoy the weather and smell the carne asada being cooked on wood fired grill. Side note / tree hugger comment: They were a little wasteful with the plates... each taco came in its own separate basic.
