We had El Churrero cater churros for our wedding this year and it was SUCH A HIT. To this day, our friends and family still tell us how they ate so many churros that night and how they loved it. Tyler, the owner, was incredibly responsive from the day we booked to the day of the event. Their onsite staff was also great! Very friendly and made sure there were fresh churros at all times. We opted in to only having the churro service with just an extra hour of service. It was priced per person ($7 at time of booking) and was unlimited with sauces. Their set up was great and clean. It had to be set up ourside our venue's tent due to the oil, but otherwise fit perfectly into the set up. We debated getting custom cart branding or cone branding ($250 each at the time of booking) but decided not to in the end. We hired El Churrero to cater the dessert (churros) for our wedding this past October 2023. I sent a form submission in May to get pricing/availability and got a prompt response with the pricing sheet and info that there was a $350 travel fee to LA. Since the travel fee was steep in my opinion, I wanted to do a little more research and price out other churro options in the LA area. It took me a few weeks but I ultimately decided to go with El Churrero - the aesthetic and minimal space needed with the cart could not be beat. So in June I sent a follow up email (on the same tread) asking if the date was still available and quickly received a separate email (not on the previous email thread) for a deposit to save the date. The deposit was $250 which I paid immediately and I thought that was a done deal, but days later I received a response to my previous email stating that the day was already reserved. I clarified that I submitted my deposit days before and verified the date and location of our event. Tyler mentioned that there was confusion with his admin person who responded to my email and things were squared away. I reached out via email in September to touch base since our wedding was 1 month out and all of our other caterers had already reached out to us except El Churrero. I did not receive any response for 4 days so I called but no answer and I left a voicemail. Tyler did call me back shortly after and apologized stating that he will have to follow up with his admin person to why I received no response and he responded to my email later that day. Come the afternoon before our wedding, I get a call from my day of coordinator telling me to not freak out but the churro caterers cancelled. I shortly after received an email from Tyler explaining that they would not be able to cater our event because their cart was damaged "beyond repair" at an event the night prior and he was unsuccessful in getting it fixed in time for our event. He offered to return our deposit ASAP, which he did and apologized for the inconvenience. It really was an inconvenience since we opted for churros instead of cake and we now had 24 hours to find and book someone else. Luckily I was able to book a paleta (popsicle) vendor that I follow on instagram but had to pay an extra $250 rush fee since they had less than 24 hours to prep by this point. All in all I should have followed my gut and found a different caterer when I lost confidence in them back in June when there was confusion about the date being booked. The El Churrero team seems to lack the communication and follow through that is crucial in the catering and event planning world. There are already so many stressors that come with planning a wedding, an unreliable caterer should not be one of them, so I would not recommend El Churrero based on my experience working with them. read more

I'm deeply saddened and terrified of the threats Tyler (the owner) made towards my Family. My husband and I hired him for our wedding and we received nothing but bad service and were forced to pay (800$+) for a service that we did not receive. After the lack of communication and arriving late we had no choice but to send El Currero away as most of our guest had already left. Tyler harassed my husband daily for a whole month & went out of his way to find out where his Elderly parents lived and included their address in his threats. As excited as I was to have them at our wedding, I have been living In fear hoping that he doesn't act on his threats as he continued harassing our family even after we payed. I have nothing but positive things to say about our wedding catering with El Churrero!! I still have people reaching out to rave about the entire wedding menu a month later. My husband and I wanted a more casual wedding but needed to satisfy an event full of foodies. Having so many guests from out of town that have never had real SoCal tacos, we thought Tyler and his team would be the perfect fit. We chose Baja fish, tinga, birria, & veggie tacos + did some apps & of course the churros. Tyler let us know during that they had picked up a fresh order of halibut for the fish tacos the morning of the event and you could totally tell how fresh it all was! The chicken and beef were also super juicy and flavorful -- hard to do for a crowd! I think the star was the on-site pressed tortillas and churros though. I heard so many people raving about the fresh tortillas and how friendly the team cooking everything was. We have SO many pictures from late night on the dance floor with everyone clutching their churros in delight. They were a huge hit and definitely went faster and were enjoyed more than a wedding cake. Though my planner handled most of the communications, in my experience Tyler was nothing but professional, flexible, very affordable, and easy to work with. We saved at least 20k going with El Churrero than we would have with a typical wedding sit down meal. Huge win for us and our guests were thrilled. If you are seeking a laid-back wedding menu that still delivers on professionalism and taste, El Churrero is your caterer!
