I went to Cinco de Mayo at El Coco, and I wanted to leave a review highlighting the amazing experience we had with the host at the front door, Andy. Andy was handling the door during one of the busiest days for a Mexican restaurant, Cinco de Mayo, so you could imagine how hectic the restaurant was. There were reservations ahead of us, and since we didn't have reservations, there was a waitlist. Despite how busy everything was, Andy kept a smile on his face the entire time. He communicated clearly with me and the other parties waiting, letting us know that reservations had to be honored first, but that we would be added to the waitlist. Once he noticed more people coming in, he quickly created an organized waitlist in his notes. Another young lady from a different party even commented on how fast and innovative he was for doing that. The entire time, Andy stayed calm, professional, and welcoming while managing what I believe is one of the hardest positions in a restaurant on a busy day. The person handling the door creates the first impression of the restaurant, and Andy represented the restaurant extremely well. What stood out most was that he never seemed frustrated. He kept his composure, stayed kind to everyone, and continued smiling while handling all the parties coming in without reservations. I want his employer to know that, from my perspective, Cinco de Mayo felt successful because of how well Andy handled the front door experience. I really enjoyed dining at El Coco , I had brunch here and it was absolutely delicious and there's a $20 Bottomless drink menu for 2 hours that includes (Mimosas, Bellini, Bloody Mary, Brunch Is Available Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm For The Entrees I had To Get The Chicken and Waffles , it was so delicious perfectly fried crispy chicken ,and the best waffles with seasonal fruit I also had the Steak & Eggs It was prepared and seasoned perfectly. I even tried the Everyday Happy Hour and the $5 Dollar Margarita it was perfect. There's also so many great options on the Everyday Menu like a $7 Birria Taco that is one of the best I've had, and delicious empanadas with many flavors to choose from. Came here for brunch on a sunday. Walked in the restaurant and it seemed like a cool vibe for a sunday brunch. I was excited to try it out as ai heard good things from friends about this place. There were about 8 of us and the restaurant was not crowded at all. There may have been a private event upstairs though. Some of us did the bottomless mimosas which was a good price for what it was. I believe it was 20.00 but I could be wrong. The glasses were small and came with a line. I never saw glasses for mimosas come with a lime. That was the first odd thing. I did not have the best experience here starting from when we were placing our food and drink orders. I had placed my order, at first I wanted the omelette but without something but they were not able to accommodate that since all the fillings were mixed together. Fine I get that, I then ordered the eggs Benedict with the sauce on the side and that was fine. I than proceeded to tell her I have alot of food allergies so she can write it down, mind you the music was blasting! It did not need to be that loud for that size of a resturant for brunch. It was not crowded at all and its not a club. I think maybe also a little bit of it was language barrier? I than went over to her after and wanted to double check that she wrote down everything to tell the kitchen staff. Well all of my friends got their dishes and I was the last one which I am used to as I know the kitchen staff wants to be sure nothing with my food is wrong/cross contamination or what not. Which I appreciate, but this wait was pretty long. Pretty much all of my friends were done with theres when I did finally get my dish. Mind you, I only got Eggs Benedict. They should have either done mine first or I don't know. And the waitress didn't seem like she cared that my food was taking soo long. Some places may have said like sorry you had to wait so long for your meal or something is on us. But nope, nothing. my experience may be different/way better because I stopped in when there were just a few people inside, and I grabbed only a burrito w/ drink to go. The woman at the counter was hella friendly and made me feel welcomed! Ordered: 1 Al Jardin Burrito (vegetarian: avocado, corn, bell pepper, refried pinto beans, crema, tomatillo sauce) ... It came perfectly wrapped with a side of chips/ two salsas + the burrito was grilled -- both unexpected but super appreciated. Tons of NA drinks to choose from. The space is cute, have been here a few times doesn't seem to get too busy. The frozen drinks are way better than on the rocks. The last time I ordered a mango margarita on the rocks it had my stomach doing backflips. The empanadas are good and the prices are super affordable. read more

The staff seemed overwhelmed and unimpressed. The food was mediocre. Wasn't bad but for the price no. The lemon drop was delicious though. I did like that the fish in the fish taco wasn't battered. My girlfriend & I along with our friends came here before our R&B concert. The vibes were right, I love the disco, the lighting and ambiance. It was a bit of a wait but very understanding with how lit up this place was. The service was good at the start, but I did not like how the server gave my girlfriend a side eye and attitude. Also delivering a horrible experience when getting drinks. Drink was extremely watered down and just un acceptable. However the tacos were okay, well seasoned but could use some sauce. This place I'll give a 7 out of 10. Would be more if we had better service and drinks. Also had to wait for over an hour when our reservation was at 7. Went out to get groceries but passed by here and saw their signed "feed me tacos and call me pretty" and said it was a cute sign. After getting groceries, we still had the saying on our minds and said let's try it. The ambiance was cool, felt like I was hanging with the twenty somethings again (a Friday afternoon at 5pm). The appetizer was good (estique) but the main plates - oh yeah!!! Wife had the quesadilla and she said it had flavor and it was thick with meat, cheese and veggies. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce which was pure comfort food and delicious. Then dessert which was flan which was nice and sweet and firm and not too soft. All in all everything was delicious. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because of the music. When we arrived, music was loud but manageable and fine. We understand it was after work and folks having fun and taste of the music was good. However, when the "dj" arrived, towards the end of our meal, they raised the volume to an unbearable level that my wife and I were screaming at each out to communicate. We even had to talk to the waiter in his ear because we couldn't hear each other. The pounding of sound kind of took away from some of the positive the entire experience was. Took my friend here for her birthday on a Monday. It was pretty empty although I had made a reservation. It had a nightclub feel with the pink lights, disco, ball, and music. I ordered the prefix lunch special which was totally worth it. I ordered a salad, nachos and dessert for $15 and my friend ordered a bowl. The food was yummy! It was happy hour so my friend ordered a piña colada. I asked if the mocktails were on the happy hour menu and our waiter said yes. The drink that I ordered is originally $10. When I got the bill, my mocktail ended up being eight dollars. Meanwhile, my friend's drink that had alcohol in it was six dollars. The prefix menu is supposed to come with bananas, covered in chocolate for dessert. However, they did not have that. Our waiter gave us Jell-O instead even though that wasn't on the dessert menu. El Coco, count your days! I typically love this spot for the $5 frozen margs, which always get the job done. They recently took that away and made them $8, but the cups are bigger so it works out. So you could imagine my excitement to come here and get drunk on Cinco De Mayo. When we get the first round of frozen margs they are extremely watered down! Nothing like on a regular day. Then when we get the bill, all of a sudden the drinks are $12 for frozen, and we were forced to get the second drinks on the rocks, which were $14, because their frozen drink machine always runs out and has to make more (GET ANOTHER ONE OR A BIGGER ONE!) and when I asked the waiter he was like "Yeah idk, the managers did that" and I should've asked to speak to the manager, but I just let it go. And they never include gratuity, but sure enough for this day, they did! And it was only 2 of us. I didn't like that. Do better El Coco! read more

Huh?! Why such a low average rating? My family/friends stopped by this restaurant this past weekend. I think it was 7 of us total. The service was great and the restaurant got really busy while we were there. The music was good but LOUD ... and at one point inappropriate because there was a child in our group. But, when asked, the waitstaff understood and changed it to a different song. There seems to have been a private party upstairs which may have been why the food took some time to reach our table, but it was worth the wait. It was delicious. Making it my quest to visit all three Coco locations in the city! So far this is my second, and wow~I really love that the tables are more spaced out than the Chelsea location (and with the bathroom on the same floor) so you can actually hear yourself and your friend well when you're talking! It is an all day happy hour which we enjoy, and while we were there the second level had a private party going on. Lower level had Barbie pink lighting and contemporary pop music playing which clashed a bit with the upstairs pop music.. For myself, I ordered a spinach cheese empanada, esquites, and an al jardin bowl. The flavor of esquites reminded me of corn soup in Asia's McDonalds which is a nostalgic menu staple for me. Besides that, the empanada was warm and A-OK and bowl seemed filling but the drinks really shone here. The tequila in the $5 mango margarita was densely strong but the strawberry margarita had a sweeter tone. Passion fruit margarita was worth the extra $3 for its unique taste. read more

I arrived at El Coco by meeting up with a few of my friends. There were immediately great vibes after having my ID checked at the door. My friends were sitting at the bar and I had ordered two chicken empanadas as well as a margarita and a shot. The Empanadas were sooo good and the drinks were even better. I was so happy to be able to take my drink to go as we were heading to other locations. My only con is the bathroom. I appreciate a nice bathroom in any establishment but this bathroom felt like it had not been checked on in a while. They have to bathrooms that anyone can use and I took the bathroom on the left. Came here for a big group event (~25 people) and they sat us in the upstairs dining area which is great for large parties. If you read my reviews I love a good classic margarita and for $5 it was pretty darn good...not to sweet not to sour! They offer three flavors to add to the classic margarita. I ordered the shrimp and crab empanada and a shrimp taco...EXCELLENT!!! The empanada uses imitation crab but with all the seasoning you get passed it LOL. The empanada is stuffed pretty full and about the size of your hand palm. The shrimp taco was very refreshing, stuffed with shrimp, thinly shredded lettuce, and a light lime seasoning. It's street taco style so one is not enough! My friends ordered the make your own bowls, steak burritos, shrimp quesadillas, and chips and salsa...each said they would come back and order the same food. What I want y'all to try is what I named "green magic in a bottle"...it's a spicy verde "hot" sauce that tasted amazing on both the empanada and taco! Some colleagues and I decided to try this place after work, and it was definitely an experience. The overall atmosphere and music gave the place a fun, laid-back vibe. We all ordered tacos, which ended up being the driest tacos known to man--not even the salsas could save them. For a Friday night, the quality of the food was disappointing and could definitely use improvement. Service was pretty slow; we had to wave someone down just to get attention, though we still left a 20% tip. After the taco letdown, we tried the empanadas, which were actually pretty good. I'm always on the lookout for cheap drinks in the city and this place was definitely worth it. The ambience was perfect for catching up with friends: fun, but not too loud or hectic. Usually, I'm scared that $5 drinks would be a ripoff but their margaritas were still really good even with the low price point. It's ah small place but the decor is cute and the service is fast and friendly. Budget friendly and the menu is decent, the drinks were a miss for me but for the price I understand. The Pink Aesthetic at El Coco is Super Cute. They have $5 Margaritas, $3 Empanadas, $4 Tacos. We made reservations for a party of 3 for Taco Tuesday. I ordered the Chicken burrito ($9) which was BOMB.com. Super delicious. My best friend got the steak burrito which she couldn't stop raving about and our other friend got the chicken tacos which she busted down within 2 minutes. That goes to say that the food here is definitely great. The margs though, did us DIRTY! They tasted like straight up juice but creeped the heck up on us. We started off with the passionfruit margaritas, then to get a frozen coco margarita and ended up getting a pitcher of plain margarita ($30)! AMAZING drinks.
