I've been coming to this restaurant for years, and I always order two moros as my two sides. On my most recent visit, the waitress and chef told me I can no longer double up on one side. When I asked why, they couldn't give me any real explanation. This is exactly how a business loses loyal customers. We are from and live in South Florida and eaten at many Cuban places. We weren't expecting spectacular, but it was quite the opposite. I'm not a roast pork person, but it was the best I have ever had! It juicy and crispy on the outside, the chicken milanaise ((sp?) was fantastic, same with the yellow rice and red beans. The tamale was delicious. This was one of those meals that every bite was a mmmmm bite..... all 3 of us!! Tasted like high end Cuban food. Better than a place we at in Delray. Lucia was our server. El Cubanito was a MANDATORY stop back when we lived in Port St. Lucie and had out-of-town guests, and it was still delicious when we were visiting the area in January! (Though it was a little disappointing that they no longer sell their homemade hot sauce by the bottle like they used to back in 2018.) Their roast pork is the star of their menu, their empanadas have always been my favorite (the pork was the best flavor, but usually sold out; beef was a solid second). Tried this place couple years ago and didn't like it because they did not serve authentic Cuban food, despite the name. The inside of the restaurant was decorated with Cuban nostalgia and it seemed fine until I tried the food. Today, I was in a rush and it popped out on Grubhub and decided to give it another try because of the fast delivery window. I'm surprised to say that I am pleased with the new staff, the food does taste authentic now and the value was good. My son palomilla steak was a great kids portion size and the Cuban sampler was okay. A good mix of plantain chips, croquetas, chicken chunks , tamal and pork. Decided to also try the coconut flan and wasn't impressed by it but it wasn't bad. The service is ok she was not that friendly but she was patient and kind the ambience is on point. The music is right for the restaurant, really enjoyed the scenery. The sweet tea was good, not to sweet, just right for me. The Latin Eggrolls are a must have really good and the dipping sauce that they give you two is really good with them. The croquettes looked a little dark, but they tasted perfectly cooked. Very tasty. The yellow rice tasted like it was microwaved, a little hard on the sides. The Black beans and rice was tasty. My Son in Law had white rice, black beans and Chicharrones de Pollo (fried chicken chunks) he said it was very good. Chicken was juicy and tender. Daughter had Chicharrones de Pollo (fried chicken chunks) and Yuca hervida al mojo (boiled Cassava in a garlic sauce) the Yuca was very good and the mojo with onions was very good also. Son had Tostones and the Pork chops. No complaints from him Daughter in Law had the Lechon asado (roast pork) Maduros (sweet fried plantains) and yellow rice. I had a bite of her lechon and it was very good. My grand-daughter who is 3 had a little bit of everything her Mom did order a Guava juice and that was very good. Now I have to take a group to a Cuban restaurant and I was hesitant to go to El Cubanito. I did not know what to expect having read so many bad reviews. I called in advance to let the staff know I was bringing a group but did not know how large. They were so cheerful and upbeat I was sold. So our group arrives. We have eaten here before and enjoyed the food. Sadly, everything has gone downhill. Due to our schedules, we order A LOT from Uber Eats etc. The last three times our orders were wrong. Yes, Uber Eats refunds the money, but the point is we don't have our food. Tonight our ENTIRE order was wrong. We paid the fuel-surcharge and tip rightfully to our driver. Now we have to go and get our food which isn't close to our home (yay gas prices) I walk in to get my re-order AND ITS STILL WRONG! Another woman was waiting for her correct order as well. When I called to voice my concerns before driving there, she let me know this is no isolated incident. Every single server looked right at us numerous times, and just continue to ignore us. That's when we should've walked out. But, we did not. I just went up to one of them and let them know we were here waiting for a table for 10 minutes. Finally, we were seated. Waitress was unfriendly and just rude to my wife and I. Food was below average, pork lacked flavor and was not tender as it should be. As for ambiance, there is none, entire experience both times was not good. We won't be back. Like a month ago I ordered a large chicken soup I told the girl over the phone no carrots because they always add it even though I request not to. I order from this place many times a week. When I got my order I had to go back because it literally has only two noodles, I told the girl and she gave me the most nasty attitude and I asked her why she was mad when I was the one disappointed, I asked to speak with the manager and she said they were not there. Mother's Day dinner. Knowing that my mom loves paella we ordered paella for four. I was required to pay ahead, which I did. We arrived and were greeted nicely by everyone. They took our drink order etc ... Our waitress said that the paella was ready for us. Less than 5 mins our food and drinks arrived. When it was placed on the table it was evident that it was not fresh and most likely sitting for an unknown period if time. It was room temperature. The lobster was awful. Overcooked and dry. The rice was similar to scooping ice cream because it was stuck together and lumpy. We ate some of it because it was $100.00 and of course edible, but it was similar to cafeteria food. We communicated to the waitress that the food was dry and difficult to chew. She was pleasant and apologized. I did see that she informed the manager/owner about our meal, but showed absolutely no regard. We were not expecting the bill to be altered, but some type of communication of their concern for our service from the mama her would have been appreciated. Nothing at all. Other than our waitress, but then again, she's working for tips. Also, I was chewing on ice after my first sangria. I had to ask for another one while the rest of my party were ordering coffee. Probably the best Cuban I've had in Florida north of Miami. We got a regular mojito and a mango mojito, 2 lunch specials and a cortadito. The total came to just over $31. Ridiculous. The mojitos alone would have cost $31 in Jersey. We split the Lechon asado and the Ropa vieja. Both were very good. Loved the beans and the sweet plantains. The yellow rice was the only thing that didn't do it for me, but their homemade hot sauce spiced things up a bit. Both the pork and the beef were nice and tender and fell right apart. Having recently moved from Miami-Dade to PSL, it was imperative to find a suitable Cuban restaurant to include in our itinerary. Located in a basic typical strip mall, this restaurant was a very pleasant surprise, and a relief! Although no Cuban bread was offered (and should be included), we began with the chicharritas (or mariquitas) with mojo. Thin, crispy and not greasy; Delicious. Half pitcher of sangria was quite good. We each ordered the roast pork with white rice and black beans. The pork was lean and perfectly seasoned, as was the rice. The black beans however were a bit watery and needed a pinch of salt. Yuca and maduros were perfectly prepared sides. Coconut flan dessert was simply a regular flan topped with coconut rather than the coconut being incorporated within the flan during the preparation. Service was great, friendly and efficient. Very nice Cuban background music maintained an upbeat (not loud) vibe. Convenient parking. A few tweaks here and there and this could be 5 stars.
