This is NO longer a Cuban place for food. The new Owner is a very nice Mexican lady. She'll cook you whatever you want. But it will not taste Cuban at all. In fact when I last went, my food was kind of gross. Because she intended to still make Cuban dishes, but that was not Cuban in any way. Ok, so where to begin...I really hate doing this. This is a very tiny hole in the wall mom and pop cafe. You might think otherwise, but the owners behind the counter were not very friendly and made me feel unwelcome and unappreciated. I had the distinct sense it was because I am not Hispanic, and I spoke to them in English. I ordered a lechon asado and a Cubano. Both sandwiches were very below average. The pork was tasteless. And the Cubano had a very skimpy portion of ham (1/2 slice) and Swiss (don't think there was any). It was mostly pork. The bread was not baked there or from a Cuban bakery...it was from Winn-Dixie! I know because I inquired where they got their bread. Seriously, I make waaaay better Cubanos and lechon asado at home. And I buy my bread directly from a Cuban bakery. Bad experience. I was so excited because they got really good reviews and the pictures looked great. I asked for extra cheese and extra pickles on both sandwiches. Neither one had it. It didn't even have enough cheese as it was, never mind extra as you can see from pictures. You should be able to taste each ingredients in every bite. The cheese didn't even cover the sandwich. The cheese on the media noche was sliced so thin that I couldn't even find it, and when I did, you could see through it. In the pictures that were shown on a website showed at least 3 to 4 slices of ham piled on top of each other. This had one thinly sliced piece of ham throughout. Bottom line is the sandwiches were so dry that I threw them in the trash. I even asked the GrubHub driver to ask the restaurant if they put extra cheese and extra pickles on it but he didn't ask. $30 in the garbage. Sidenote: if you want a good authentic Cuban sandwich go to Good Flavor Latin Restaurant on orange ave in ft pierce. Just left El Cubano with 6 pastelitos (guava & cheese, coconut and meat), 3 mamey milkshakes , a colada, and two Cuban sandwiches the size of an RV. All I wanted was a coffee. As a family we have a tradition of getting Cuban sandwiches on road trips in Florida. We just found the winner. The lechón was like a melted piglet on top of the ham and Swiss cheese. Let's start, I used to live in Miami but now live in Hutchinson Island and missing some Cuban food. Outside is run down and so is the inside. Got there at 3:40 pm and they close at 4:00 pm not what they had posted on Yelp which is 6:00 pm. My husband ordered a croqueta preparada sandwich which was just ok. One piece of ham and cheese with 2 croquetas inside. There was no hot food left at all so I just ordered a tamal and a mango shake. No big deal either. Only good thing was the cheese flan. They don't make them there. Of course it's someone from Miami who makes them. There was no passion or willing to serve either. I would not return. read more

Tried it this morning and are happy we did. I had Cuban toast and café con leche and my husband had a scrambled egg and ham grilled sandwich on Cuban bread and it was delicious. It's the real thing. Looking forward to trying something else next time. read more

I'm wondering the legitimacy of these reviews. I've gone to this place about 4 times now hoping it's gotten better. The last time we went was last week and let me tell you... not better at all. When we got there the food on display looked very very dry. They had lechon, pork chops, chicken and I dont even know what the other thing was but they all looked dry and just not very tasteful. So I was like ok let me just get a steak sandwich (number 1 Cuban meal) and was informed they didnt have any. Its 11 am and they didnt have a steak sandwich. So I asked her how can you not have pan con bistec?!?!?! She told me they ran out of steak.... its 11 am!! How do you run out of your number one meal??? So I went with the chicken and moro (rice and beans). I asked her if she had plantains and she said no all they had was some cabbage mix and some fish empanada. What kind of Cuban place doesnt have tostones or plantains ??? The service is terrible. The old lady that was serving the food was so unpleasant. My husband ended up throwing away his Chinese rice looking thing they had with the pork chops. He was so upset with me for forcing him to go there again after we've had 3 other bad experience there. I wouldn't recommend. If you want Cuban make the drive and either go to the palmas or mervis cafe. This place is not worth the 10 bucks for a meal. They moved a location on Old Dixie Hwy south of Oslo Rd. I thought the food was fresher and tasted better when they were located in the Citgo Station. Probably more lunch traffic and food turnover at the old location. I occasionally stop by to pick up a Cuban as theirs is better than the other locals that use smoked pulled pork in their sandwiches instead of Cuban roast pork. read more

The first review says it is in the Citgo, that is no longer the case. It is now located a stones throw on Old Dixie next to the 7-11. It was a fabulous Cuban sandwich that I had. It was huge, I couldn't finish it which is good b/c now I have 1/4 for lunch today. I'm going back to get another one for dinner tonight. With tax it was $8.55. A great deal for the amount of food you get . The bread was authentic, the ham was good and the roast pork stole the show. read more

Nevermind the low reviews. I've been here twice so far and have not been disappointed yet. I just moved to the area after living in Miami for the last 15 years and it was the closest restaurant I had that was similar to my home in Miami. One thing I can say is that they don't accept Apple Pay or Samsung Pay so be careful of that, but everything else was superb! read more

Thank goodness for cell reception and unlimited data packages because there's absolutely no way I would have been able to "stumble" across this hidden gem, and that's a total understatement. After a long day by the water and sweating my SOCAL ass off, I needed something salty bad. My super duper yelp app directed me towards El Cubano B.Y. and luckily my GPS was working just fine because this place is definitely off the beaten path. Anywho, once I walked in, I heard the Cuban music going and that distinct Cuban accent in the cashier and cook. I knew what to order even before I got there...a Cuban sandwich, a guava pastry and a café con leche. And like that...BAM! I was patiently waiting for my meal as I watched what looked like Cuban MTV. But once I got my sandwich and allowed my café con leche to cool down, it was going down like no other! I've never had a el cubano like this before, the roasted pork was so freaking juicy and the cheese was so dang gooey and OMG that bread tho! I don't know if it was butter, or meat juices but the drippings that were falling off the sandwich were so good that I didn't care if I was licking my arms like a kid tonguing a window because my goodness every morsel of that sandwich was spectacular! Very disappointing. The coffee was really good but the food was lousy. Cuban sandwich wasn't on traditional Cuban bread and was literally oozing grease. Really gross. And the empanadas were just really hard dough with almost no filling. The food was unfortunately just really bad. read more

We are sitting outside of this restaurant right now, trying to eat our food. This is the worst Cuban food. I was raised in Hialeah, Fl and ate Cuban food all the time. I still eat Cuban food, I know good Cuban food. We ordered the Cuban sandwich and black beans and rice. And what Cuban restaurant doesn't have sweet plantains....this one ugh. The black beans were very salty and the white rice was crunchy. The Cuban sandwich was terrible. Something was bitter and the roast pork was not edible. It had hard dry pieces of meat in it and bones. I couldn't eat it. I'm leaving hungry. My husband took the pork off of it and ate it. I'm being bitten outside by no see ums.
