This food truck is tucked inside of Union Pool bar! Love the conveniency of the place. The queso was delicious. It was very creamy. Their chips were really good, too. It was nearly impossible to stop eating. The elote was average. I wish there was more flavor in the seasoning! The veggie quesadillas were nothing extravagant, but still enjoyable. I thought it was delicious paired with the green sauce. I would ask for more cheese to help keep the quesadilla together. That is just my personal preference, because I don't like getting food all over the place. I had to take a star off for price, though. My friend ordered "tacos" as labeled, but only received one taco. It was $4 for one taco. She was not mad about it it being one taco, but she was more upset that the menu insinuated there would be more than one. read more

I like the tacos here and I'm glad this truck is inside a bar as it gives me a legitimate excuse. The fish tacos are bomb. It's all about the sauce. If Union Pool is my go-to bar in Williamsburg, then El Diablo is my go-to taco spot at 2AM, particularly the chorizo tacos. I love El Diablo - they have saved me so many times in a drunken haze, bringing me back to life and easing the Sunday Scaries. A few of my go-to's: chorizo taco ($4), guacamole ($7), chicken torta ($6). They updated the prices over the last few years so I think those are accurate...but regardless El Diablo for the win! :D read more

Don't let these west coast fools blather away - there is no Mexican food in the world that compares to CA - not even in Mexico. So to sit here and write how it isn't your LA tacos, is a waste of time. I'm sure we don't have hummus like they do in Tel-Aviv either (even though it's pretty close over there in the city at Pita & Hummus co.). That being said San Loco, El Diablo, & Vera Cruz are this neighborhood's holy trinity. Next to La Superior & Cerveceria are the backups (and very different). El Diablo is key to a hip spot, but they DO NOT play with their spicy like the others do. If you say SPICY be prepared to deal with the consequences. Tortas, chicken burritos w guac, chips and queso, and steak quesadillas? That's the way to order. When plans change and ur boy tells ya he knows of an awesome taco truck... you go to that awesome taco truck... leave all doubts aside and hope he was talking about El Diablo bcuz this place is a game changer. Monday night, spring has hit the air, walk in to what looks like a sketchy bar but turns out to be pretty chill relaxed vibe, bar tender totally awesome and happy hour till 9?? Sure, I'll have a margarita, as you walk further toward the back theirs doors that lead back outside to this closed off space, it's a pretty decent sized court yard with plenty of seating. Further toward the back there's... yup a taco truck!! Serving tamales quesadillas tortas and ELOTES!! So excited I ordered an al pastor taco and chicken quesadilla, the taco was definitely something to wanna come back for, it had a very traditional sweet from the pineapple tangy spice from the sauces and the meat was just delicious porky goodness. The quesadilla I wasn't so much of a fan for only because it had mushrooms and was like a stewed chicken, taste was good though just not what I was expecting. I think the best part was just hanging out in the back kept ordering more tacos and drinks and enjoying good company. Come 730pm and the night finally creeps to a pitch black and these overhead hanging lights turn on illuminating such a comfy atmosphere. There were three exclamations that occurred at El Diablo Taco Truck... and it went like: "FOUR DOLLARS FOR TACOS AL PASTOR!?!?" "There's no al pastor spit... OR PINEAPPLE!?" "Um... there are peppers AND salsa in my quesadilla?!" So here's the thing... El Diablo is better than average for NYC but clearly doesn't really cut it in general. (literally, like I want my taco al pastor CUT off the giant spit.) My friends and I were at Union Pool, trying to absorb as much hip hop as possible when we decided that food was the biggest priority. So all of us having lived in LA for the past few years before making moves to NY knew that tacos needed to be part of the equation. The two first exclamations were something that we already knew would happen... this isn't Tacos Leo. I can't get my delicious dollar tacos with avocado salsa. But it's still something that we note. Our other friend got a quesadilla -- and it was good for what it was but grilled peppers? Salsa? Weird. It was tasty but not authentic. Overall, if you're already in Union Pool, it's solid to hit up. It's more than I'm usually willing to pay for tacos but it's NYC standard pricing. The portions are smaller than what you're paying for but when it comes to the drunchies, it's a three star choice and if you close your eyes and pretend you're not cold in November, it almost feels like being at a taco truck back in California. read more

To quote Gob Bluth, I've made a huge mistake. And that mistake was eating at El Diablo truck during the daytime and when I wasn't blackout drunk (yet). I had the al pastor and the chorizo, and both were just not great. Also, they messed up the preparation of the tortillas and gave me three wraps instead of four. Since these are on the pricey side, I give them three stars - I'm guessing it doesn't matter much when you're drunk-ass-drunk that a taco costs $3.50, but let's be real people, the normal price for a decent taco is $2.50 (you know you can buy 40 tortillas at the bodega for $1.25 - juss sayin). I had the chorizo torta (again, about a dollar more than it should have been at $7), which was delicious. I seriously wanted to shove my face inside of it like that youtube video of a bulldog eating watermelon (you know what else that looks like? Yeah, I went there, heh heh). My friend got two pollo tacos, and said they were delicious but again we both thought the price was a little steep. After a couple of beers at a nearby bar, the girls and I needed a nosh that $1 potato chips could not satiate. Upon the brilliant recommendation of my "New To New York" roommate, she suggested tacos from a truck in a bar. whoa whoa whoa. clearly, my roommate was drunk when she suggested this. No way is there a TRUCK inside a BAR serving TACOS. She swore. And then I was like "Oh man, this is serious" I was born and raised in Williamsburg up until 4 years ago and I never knew such a place existed. Maybe I KNEW but the foodie roots were deep enough yet. The four of us, slightly intoxicated ladies walked into the bar, got carded (yay!), and hit the backyard area where the taco truck was slinging out deliciousness. The menu was simple. I wanted everything on it. I spied an empty picnic table and parked myself there while giving the girls my order. 2 beef tacos, 1 chicken and a grilled corn. I wasnt even that hungry. I just knew I needed to try a whole bunch of goodness. The beef was tasty but the chicken was even tastier. The corn? slightly overcooked but flavorwise was spot on! a taco alone will set you back about $3.50. The backyard is popular but never once did i feel claustrophobic or anything. The one thing that bugged the crap out of me was the smoking sitch. While i thoroughly enjoyed my late night tacos, the cigarette smoke being blown all over the place was gag-inducing. If they banned smoking I would consider leaving Queens more often. read more

Any time, sober or trashed, this place is great! The guys on the truck are super nice, and as quick as they can be. Everything my girlfriend and I have tried we have loved. The chicken tacos, al pastor tacos, and the GRILLED CORN are our favorites. Super fresh & juicy, 1 bite & you'll be hooked (Corn takes about 3bites to get hooked since its kinda weird at 1st, but believe me, keep eating!) Try and come at a decent hour (like before midnight) and you will not have to wait on a long line. It seems the later, the more crowded. After straying from my preferred burritos, I sampled tacos at several places and trucks around the city and this is still the best by far. I'm so sad. This was literally one of my favorite places ever to get tacos. Especially the shrimp tacos. Friend and I all agreed, they were some of the best Shrimp tacos around....Sadly something changed. I've been back recently after having not visited it for a good year and everything was off. The shrimp felt pre cooked and tough and dry and lacking flavor. The pork tasted sour. As someone that would have give then 100 stars a year ago I'm saddened to say something happened for the worse here. I'm not basing this off of one night either I went back twice after to double check as it was a summer mainstay and still got the poor results. It appears the kryptonite for this place is sobriety. I ordered the chicken taco and nachos with queso. The taco was not only tiny but not that good - way overpriced at $3. Then, while the quantity of chips are adequate, the quality is lacking. So is the queso - very liquidity and blah. The redeeming features are the location (part of a cool bar) and that it is outdoors. Other than that, would not eat here again. I would think that even after some drinks you could do better. Also, they did not have salsa (which is what I originally ordered with my chips) or have fish for tacos. That kind of stunk too :) read more

FOOD POISONING TWICE!! The first time was a couple months ago and I got it. Last night I was with two friends staring at a plate of tacos and quesadillas and I said, "I got food poisoning from this stuff, might want to be careful" and chose not to eat the tacos because of it. Fast forward five hours and my friend will be spending the rest of the day crawling back and forth to the bathroom. After walking into Union Pool's backyard and witnessing El Diablo, the painted walls, and the well done outdoor seating area, I was instantly transported to the golden era of "The Woods" bar near the Williamsburg Bridge. In other words, the time not too long ago when they also sold authentic and delicious tacos in their backyard. Before Landhaus and other carts that looked cool, but taste-wise couldn't compete, overtook their backyard food scene. El Diablo goes the extra mile, distinguishing between a standard pork taco, and Al Pastor. Furthermore, my friend says their veggie tacos are solid, and their willing to accomodate you're creativity. Well worth it, even if the night is just getting started. read more

So I'm still out here in New York for the fall. I'm currently staying in the city for work. Since I have been to New York, I have not found a decent place that can do Mexican food. Or let alone find the right Taco truck. Living in LA has spoiled me with countless AMAZING taco trucks for late night dinner. I had their quesadilla and it was fucking fantastic.
