I love this venue! I've enjoyed so many events here over the last 40 years! The mature trees and garden areas are beautiful. The grassy hill is a kid favorite. Gorgeous covered arena for the horses and livestock auctions. Plenty of parking and conveniently located right next to the skate park and Raley's! I recently enjoyed the "Farm Day" with the county's 3rd graders. Well organized and so much fun! read more

The El Dorado County Fair occurs annually on the third Thursday of June through to Sunday. This year's 2023 fair ran from June 15-18. The theme was Country Nights and Carnival Lights... all day and night. I've been attending this fair for quite some time. My favorite events to watch are the livestock auction, horse riding drill team event, and the John Studebaker wheelbarrow racing. All of these shout out "community" and is unique to the area. I enjoy watching the auction and seeing the youngsters show their animals... pigs, turkeys, goats, rabbits, and Angus cattle. Plus it's pretty neat listening to the fast talking wise cracking auctioneer. The wheelbarrow barrel racing is a signature event unique to this fair. Yup, the race is named after the auto manufacturer. Contestants run an obstacle course pushing a wheelbarrow and filling a gunny sack filled with dirt. There's even a water hazard. Fun fact as a young man, John Studebaker made his way to Placerville to gold mine and ended up making wheelbarrows instead. With his hard earned money, he moved back to the Midwest to start manufacturing automobiles with his brothers. Must try food: +The local chapter of the 20/30 club makes a pretty awesome tasting taco. Slightly fried crispy shell tacos. And at $5, it's a bargain compared to the other food stand vendors. +My other favorite food vendors that were locally based was the Love Birds Coffee stand. They sell coffee drinks , doughnut, waffles, cookies, and Krispy treats. The baked goods are all homemade and hefty sized. The prices were a bit cheaper than the other food stands. I had a flavored iced coffee... delicious!!! +Some folks that we shared a picnic table with raved about another local vendor... Holy Grail Grill. The pulled pork soft tacos were outstanding! 3 for $12. Not to worry the fair had a ton of carnival food vendors...corn dogs, funnel cakes, Chinese food, soft serve, icees (including the over 21 versions), BBQ... you name it. Parking: There is no fairgrounds public parking lot. Parking is at the library. From there, a free shuttle drops off at the front admissions gate. They come around often so the wait time is minimal. The shuttle is handicapped accessible and has air conditioning. Admission: General admission is $12 and senior (60 and over ) is $10. They allow in and out fair entry, just get a hand stamp before exiting. read more

Had the pleasure of going to a recent reggae festival with you festival was great not a lot of shade but the weather was great so that wasn't a concern could've used more vendors for food and a variety of vegetarian meals but overall it was a very great experience clean within walking distance to theGrocery store As well as.Denny's. For years I've been told about the El Dorado county fair, and somehow I always seem to miss it. Finally this weekend I was able to go for the first time, and I loved it. Fairs in the foothills always seem to be more laid back. You have your mandatory big kid rides, next to rows of beverage and food vendors. There was a lemonade stand where you could buy a 10oz cup for $10 and get free refills off the side the rest of the day, granted it isn't great lemonade, but it will help keep you hydrated. Another cart down the line had the same concept but with old fashioned soda in cool metal mugs. I was told there were water fountains, but I always seemed to miss them. Next to a line of beautifully maintained Studebakers, was a Baby Hut put on by First 5 California. Inside there's a secluded area for nursing, an area for diaper changes complete with water bottles for formula, or dehydrated littles and nursing moms. The play area with some toys and books to entertain the older kids while the babies are being babies. Pamphlets containing some good information on First 5, and a take-home book. This hut saved the day when my daughter was getting to fussy only 30 minutes in. The 4H has a big presence here, there are cows, hogs, goats, sheep, and rabbits cared for by the kids in the surrounding small towns you may have not have known existed. The craft exhibits across the way contains a collection of goods the state fair would envy, rows upon rows of quilts, pies, cakes, and preserve. The knitting room teaches children how yarns made, used, and a little about the types of yarn. The folks working these exhibits were lovely too. One of the kiddie game areas is set up next to the beer garden, and would have been my favorite spot as a kid. For the adults beers were $6 for 8oz. For the kids there were pony rides, zorbing, $1 to swing a hammer or mini sledge at a wrecked SUV, RC car races, a free aquarium exhibit, a stage with local singers, and best of all a steep grassy hill in the shade to roll down. The Grandstands host all kinds of events including wheelbarrow racing, and the Rubicon Experience - off-roading vehicles going through obstacles, I missed this one so I'm not sure if they're crawling or racing. They also serve beer. It's fun to see how many cups the men can balance heading back to their seats, one man already carrying two large cups was able to stop and get an event guide- impressive. On the way into the grandstands, there was a girl sing the anthem, it wasn't the best rendition I ever heard, but after the crowd went crazy. That's the best part of these kinds of events, the people that make it a community event. I will return, especially since I missed the mutton busting. read more

El Dorado Fairgrounds RV Camping El Dorado Fairground RV Camping was remodeled late 2020 and offers water and electricity with a dump station. The dump station is on a narrow road halfway up the hill and is slanted downhill and requires careful maneuvering up the parking lot road with a turn to get into. After dumping, the rig is pointed away from the gate and requires driving down to the lower parking lot and making a tight 3-point turn to turn around and then a maneuver back up to the main gate at top to get out of the campground. We have camped here several times. The first time it was uncrowded, but afterwards the RV campground was half full and for a comfortable stay needs to be half full or less. I question the layout of the sites, they do not allow much space between motorhomes but when a toad is added or a trailer and tow vehicle then this place can become a sardine can of RVs. The last time we camped here I was unable to correctly park my trailer into the site we wanted due to another camper's location (they were correctly parked) and not due to my ability. I had to park in another site and I noticed that even though I parked correctly within my site, there was not enough room for another camper in the next site which was empty. There is a dog exercise area at the top near the main gate, but people are too lazy to take their dogs to poop up there and therefore the sites have poop in them. One of the onsite live-in workers owns a small dog and the dog barks excessively during the day and is very annoying! I noticed the last two times we camped here that campers came in from the lower locked gate. When I talked to these campers they threw out names of fairground personnel and combinations to the main upper gate but this combination had been changed. Therefore I question the authorized use of this lower gate and speculate if these campers were freeloading. My iPhone 11 reception was not good and I had to walk up the hill to best get reception, forget TV. read more

Thank god we have this space in our county, which hosts event year around, from annual county fair to summer speed races and number of expos. some of the events like Hangtown Halloween Ball is one of my fav event to go to every year. After returning to our car and changing a diaper we tried to re-enter the Fair(our hands were stamped). They then told us that even though we had stamps for re-entery, are disabled, and pushing a toddler that we would need to wait in the single main entry line. That line extended up a dangerous slope with vehicle traffic on it. Somehow they think this is safe, appropriate, and ADA compliant. When concerns were voiced we were treated extremely rudely and as if we were idiots for being offended. This will be the last time we come to buy at the 4H auction here. It will also be the last time my family attends the County Fair as well. read more

This review is for the Dry Diggings Concert I went to last night Sept 1 2018 The concert was great also the people were very friendly. No problems at all I think it had a lot to do with the pot available for purchase on sight . The reason for this review is to let the people involved it producing this concert it's not ok to make getting water to drink harder than it should be for profits one vender told me they weren't aloud to sell water that tells me a lot they want people to buy wine and beer I think it's greed ! This not only causes dehydration but it suggests drinking beer and wine $$$$$. But it also puts more people on the roadways that have had to many drinks because if you want water you need to search for it . The other thing that I would like to see changed is the volume of the sound system when the bands play the levels are just at the point of being over the top but are doable but when the DJ talks he turns up the volume and it is just to loud they have a super sound system the base drums are super powerful it's impressive. I will be going again next year because the people and music is just great Reggae has come along way I was very impressed. read more

Look forward to the EDC fair every year. Noting that the wheelbarrow race will be on Saturday this year. Love the food, music and the chance to catch up with friends over a Margarita. The livestock auction is most exciting. To see 4-H and FFA participates complete the cycle and be rewarded for all their hard work is gratifying. There will truly be "Magic in the Air!" We had never been here before, but came down for an event which I believe was the first of it's kind held here, a big music festival (Hangtown Halloween Ball). It was suh-weet! I've been involved with lots of music festivals, and I can say that for its first time hosting one, the Fairgrounds passed with flying colors and exceeded all expectations. The grounds were beautiful and inviting, the layout was convenient, and the parking was easy. Security and other logistical workers (although not sure if they were associated with the Fairgrounds or were brought in for this event) were friendly and chill. Not sure about the camping, since we stayed at a motel. All in all, a great time was had by all...I hope they do this festival (or any others) again next year! read more

Very well run operation. Nice grounds. Great that they have a new sidewalk down Fair Lane so we can walk down from the parking lots.

Don't come to this fair if you are disabled! Although this can be a quaint country fair it is very mismanaged in terms of handicapped accessibility! The handicap parking is located near the blue entrance. This entrance is at the bottom of a very steep hill. When we tried to enter the fair the line was stretched way up this very steep hill and was barely moving. We spoke to a supervisor who practically bragged that the line at this time was nothing and that it usually stretched a quarter mile! I pointed out an elderly man who was having trouble standing in this line but I was told they could not do any better. read more
