Pool table at the Kyburz Lodge last night

Great service great ambience! Had an amazing time! Brings back a lot of memories from when I used to come here as a kid in the late 70s now I'm bringing my children here! Can't wait for what's to come for the Kyburz Lodge!

The pasteries are great. Best avocado toast I've ever had. All their drinks are delicious. Definitely coming back.

This is for the Bunny Slope Coffee Shop here... The first time we have stopped here as we are staying at the lodge next door. The food was delicious, the ambiance was great, and the staff was super friendly. They also have a lot of books you can purchase for only $3

Menu board -- will change

Historic lodge re-opens for coffee, pastries, and brews Along the American River on Highway 50 on the way to Tahoe, check if this historic lodge has put out the open sign for its Bunny Café at the Kyburz . If so, you're in for a treat of specialty coffees, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Referred by a local, we happened upon the Café for a Friday breakfast in September-- the day it had re-opened after a temporary summer closure. The owner/manager/restauranteur and his partner were at the counter, excited to share plans for the historic property. Note that while it is called a lodge, it doesn't offer accommodations. As of last month, the Bunny slope cafe at the lodge was serving up pastries, coffee and breakfast sandwiches. My avocado toast was huge, as was the ham and cheese croissant. People were trickling in for their specialty coffees and to check out the full pastry case. With pool tables, bar, stage and outdoor deck with rocking chairs, the lodge/cafe looks like it will be a fun gathering place in the future. We look forward to their success.

bagel+avocado+salman. and the Pliney!

a special spot on US50, and always has fresh, good beers (Pliney!). now they're doing food in the evenings, too!

Yogurt bowl, early grey lavender tea

The food service and ambiance are always excellent. Great lattes, food and seating with a cozy cabin vibe. Always a must go!

Ham and fig jam melt was delicious!

Specialty coffee is good. Large pastries, and a nice bar. Lots of games to play at the bar.

They had the banner for best brunch 2025 hanging nicely. Diane, the owner, put us on the waitlist and also showed us to our table. Very warm welcome! We started off with coffee. Hubby had the Chorizo Quesadilla and enjoyed it very much. The portion was enough for 2 meals. Sure enough, he took half home. I had the Coconut French Toast, the small portion. Even though it's supposed to be small, I still left some on my plate. Love the fresh sliced bananas with it! There are more menu items we would love to try. Just need to come back and visit again!

The poached eggs were done perfectly and the English muffins were not burnt. (I have, unfortunately, experienced that before at another location.) My sister's breakfast was the corn beef hash, which really did look homemade, (unlike another restaurant in the area that served me what I believed was canned corn beef hash with almost soup texture.) her fruit was ripe. I do believe she very much enjoyed the breakfast. I may not be 100% correct on this, but I was rather disappointed in the hollandaise, it was a bit 'flat'. As far as I can tell, it was not true hollandaise. Most probably it was an egg Béchamel. It had a very creamy texture, a small tendency to congeal on the top, and lacked the bright zing of lemon and buttery texture and flavor of true hollandaise. Indicators, its lack of a slightly translucent and glossy finish, the lack of the acidity of lemon juice or vinegar, and did not weep butter, but instead seem to thicken and form a slight crust as I finished the Benedicts. The egg, Benedict were very tasty, but the hollandaise sauce with disappointing. (I really do like a good hollandaise.)

Some days the staff is welcoming, attentive, and genuinely pleasant, while on other days the level of service seems to depend entirely on the mood of the barista. The quality of a coffee can bring customers in, but consistency in kindness and professionalism is what keeps them coming back. A smile, respect, and a positive attitude are just as important as the drink being served. It seems that since tipping became something requested before the service is even provided, a bit of the humility and gratitude that once defined great customer service has been lost. Not everywhere, of course, but too often the smile, attentiveness, and genuine care that used to earn a tip have been replaced by the expectation of receiving one. The best tips are still earned the old-fashioned way: through kindness, respect, and exceptional service.
