Chicken tacos were piled high with perfectly grilled/seasoned meat (that wasn't drowning in red sauce like some other places). Chicken soup was excellent (and more than enough)! Refried beans and rice were average but still good for beans and rice. The tomatillo salsa with the chips was MUY caliente but tasty. Overall was very good and I'd return when in the area again. I was trying to get a group of friends to go grab dinner on a Friday night, but I was not in the mood to default to our usual go to places. I wanted to try something new, so I turned to Yelp. That's how I came across Taco El Dorado. All the reviews spoke highly of the food and everyone mentioned the endless chips and salsa. That had me sold. The inside was bigger than what I imagined. We were a pretty big group and sat at the largest table situated in the middle of the restaurant. A basket of chips and salsa was brought out as we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. We went through 5 baskets of chips before we ordered. As one basket was getting low, the server/cashier would efficiently drop off another basket. We all ordered items ranging from tacos to tortas, to burritos, and quesadillas. I would like to say that nobody complained about their food. I had the carne asada taco and shared a chicken fajita with the boyfriend. It was delicious. The fajita isn't something I would order again, but the taco was great...and it is ridiculously cheap! I got to have a bite of the chorizo taco and the fish taco. Both were incredible. I will definitely be ordering the fish taco next time. I ordered a steak burrito ($5) to go. Came home and opened the little box all ready to eat. As soon as I looked to see my burrito "WTH?" In the tortilla wrap was ONLY steak, onions and avocado. Rice on the side. The steak looked glazed with oil. The effort of placing the rice in the tortilla was work given the small fork so I used my hands to grab the rice to put in the burrito. My first bite with the red and green sauce did heighten my taste for the burrito and I just devoured the thing (out of hunger) not because I really liked it. The red sauce is not spicy at all but the green sauce had a full and hint of spice that was very pleasant. Verdict: I've been to Mexico quite a few times and the meat doesn't taste authentic, but not as bad as I expected. I am giving it 3 stars for now and not sure about coming back ... yet. El Dorado has become my go to Mexican place in Duluth. The food is always on point. No matter what I've ordered, it has never been anything short of delicious. The tacos and tortas are all great. I usually go with a pastor torta, but I've tried just about every taco, including the lengua (tongue) and cabeza (cheek), and they were all great. I've also had the spare ribs (costillas de res) and split the molcajete (a little bit of everything) with my wife. I have not had their shrimp cocktail yet, but the few times I have seen them bring it out, it certainly looked amazing. As should be expected from any Mexican place that is worth its salt, the chips and salsa are good. I will agree with other reviewers that at times they do appear to be understaffed, as there is usually just one person running the register, answering phones, and waiting tables. However, you must keep in mind that the space is very small. They could possibly add 1 more person to help up front, but more than that and there just wouldn't be room. Despite the typically small wait staff, I don't ever recall having to wait overly long for anything. When the wife and I went in yesterday for our annual 4th of July Mexican lunch (what's more American than that?), they were slammed, and there was just 1 person working the front of the house, as usual. Astoundingly, she handled everything without a single mistake, and everyone got their food quickly. It was very impressive. I have come here a few times with my hubby. And we love it!! The interior is very authentic. It is a sit yourself restaurant which was quite confusing but the staff quickly told us the spiel which was nice. The chips and salsa as well as our drinks come out very quickly, the servers are very attentive. The restaurant is tucked away next to RaceTrac and in the middle of the plaza where Super H-Mart is located. It's quiet, pretty small, very colorful, and has two flat-screen TVs that play either Univision or Telemundo all day long. When I walked in the door, I was hit by an onslaught of savory aromas. The place smelled good enough to make me feel like I was starving before I sat down! Our waitress was quiet but friendly and brought us some complimentary tortilla chips and salsa to start. Best Mexican food in the area. I usually order Tacos, tamales, and Molcajetes (sp). The food is low cost and high quality. A family of four can eat a taco and tamale meal for less than $20 with dips. The service is great and the ambiance is truly unique. They have it decorated with a facade of balconies above the booths and the color scheme is vibrant to say the least. This is the place I hit if I want mexican food and dont want to drive all the way down to bufford. They deserve 3 stars bit giving them 4 bc of it being so close and also for having tripas and manudo. To bad they don't have pizzol or cal de res. The taco is decent. El Dorado is a small restaurant in the shopping area next to Suno, Wingstop, and other shops in the area. I have tried almost every Mexican restaurant, and have to say that el dorado has by the best tacos for the BEST PRICE. Compared to other restaurants where it's $9.99+ for 3 tacos, el dorado offers you single tacos for price ranges from $1.75-$1.95. The tacos are also pretty big, bigger than the size of your palm. The tacos come with the meat you order and cilantro and onions. The tacos come with double tortilla, but I'm pretty sure you can tell them if you just want one tortilla when you order. I ordered one of the chicken, carne, pastor, chorizo and 2 tribe. The tacos were so great. I've never tasted tacos that great at such a great price before. The only problem is that since the place is small it gets super packed quickly especially on weekends. I've eaten here at least 20 times over the past 2 years+.... My initial visit was I just moved to ATL from MIA and was looking for a decent priced Mexican spot close to my house in John's Creek. So I stumbled upon El Dorado. The Sombrero caught my eye in the sign above the storefront, so I hopped in for a few tacos. I ordered 3 tacos...2 steak. For $1.50 each, a great deal. Nothing fancy, just done the right way. For the price, you're certainly not getting outside skirt or hanger. But they come with a great taste and a fair price. Since that first stop there, I have gone many many times with my lady. We get the guacamole every time. It's one of the best I've ever had, and for $3.50, you cant beat it. It's a flavor bang every time. Notable are the fajitas and steak nachos. Their signature dish is the Molcajete....great value and tons of food. The sauce has above average heat, so a fair warning there. There are high priced places out there with wonderful dishes with elaborate ingredients for rock star prices, and there are hole in the wall gems like El Dorado. Met a friend for dinner. The reviews here were good regarding the food and so-so on the service, but we weren't in any hurry so decided to give it a try. The place is not big and was about half full of diners. There was only one lady who appeared to be waitress, busboy, and cashier so was not sure how fast we'd be served, but she was jumping and took our orders in a timely manner. I ordered the mixed fajitas and although it tasted good, it was not sizzling when she brought it out and I thought that odd. The food was mostly hot but not like usual when you get fajitas. Later someone else ordered them and when she brought it out it was sizzling as she went by our booth so I know mine was not brought to me right away. Still it was good so not a biggie. So the wait staff has been over the last month particularly rude and not at all friendly considering our checks for our dinner are less than $20 at a maximum. now, that is an assumption that the wait staff has been rude because we do not order a lot of expensive meals but it any rate I don't think I will be going back because of the treatment from the staff. I don't think that it is fair to be treated poorly because I have one particular set of items that I like to order on the menu and it is not my fault that they offer free chips and salsa and that I like them (well, liking them is my fault). other restaurants that I go to when I order chips and salsa are particularly friendly when they bring out more however this group looks like they are very frustrated and pissed because I keep ordering chips and salsa... i have been ignored on several occasions and now recently they started bringing out super tiny bowls instead of the little bottle they used to have. I don't think I will be going back to this place even though it is way cheaper than other restaurants that I go to simply because the service is not what I would expect when I go pay for a meal... especially after going there so regularly for six months. Their food is good expect the steak has lots of hard fat. They have the worst service I have ever experienced. I had to walk up to the waitress and ask her to refill my chips. I ordered enchiladas verdes with beef. They came out as chicken. I had to walk up to the waitress and tell her it was wrong. She blamed it on me. She listed the meats to me, so I told her to make it steak instead. The second time my food came out it was chicken AGAIN. I had to walk up front AGAIN to tell her it was wrong. By the third time they finally got it correct. My partner was done eating by the time they got it right. She never said sorry once. When we went to pay I asked to speak to a manager. There was no manager on duty. When she gave us the ticket there was no free meal or even a discount. We had to pay full price. She told me NEXT time they will give me a discount. Of course there won't be a next time. I called the next day with the waitresses name at hand, there was still no manager on duty. I told one worker my problem and she said they were suppose to pay for my meal. She said she would call me later. I never got a call back. I will not ever support this restaurant again. read more
