We used to go to this restaurant a lot, but the past 3 visits have been disappointing. Today we ordered one each of the daily specials. It took forever to get our food. The enchiladas plate was good, but the fideo con pollo was not. It had no flavor. They throw 2 pieces of boiled chicken including skin and bones into a bowl of wet spaghetti. Bad experience. Can't critique the food cause didnt get that far. Waitress unwelcoming and I was left unattended for a long time after we did figure out who she'd be. Food and Service are always great! My husband and I eat here at least once a week. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner it doesn't matter what time of the day the food is always great! I usually don't do reviews but this last time dining in they were sweeping and wiping down the dirty tables after customers would leave. The cleaning towel had a very strong cleaning agent smell. I wasn't very pleased. Who wants to eat and smell that? It totally ruins your taste buds. As well as the sweeping. Who wants to eat dust? Well I'm just putting this out there. I've been to restaurants that wipe down tables with products that are not smelly. I hope this reaches someone who is in charge. Bathrooms also need renovation. Very out dated and well no paper towels to dry your hands and you have to open the door and step into a hall to use the dryer on the wall. I did notice that the sign on the wall for logging when it was last cleaned was last year some time. Which I doubt as it was clean. Hope to have a better experience next time! read more

Went and had breakfast with a friend and we both orders the Spanish breakfast omelette the staff was friendly and attentive always checking on us the food arrived quickly and was nice and hot. The decor is synonymous with what you would find in a rustic, Norteño setting. Situated in the corner of a small plaza, this Mexican restaurant is large, with plenty of seating. Very busy, but the service was reasonably quick. We were seated almost immediately, had our coffee in no time. We came for brunch. My flour tortilla had an authentic homemade taste, which I enjoyed. We ordered a plate that had a variety, to sample the staple foods. The barbacoa had the perfect ratio of flavor and texture, not greasy at all! The menudo was not as good as the one mom makes, but it was good, for a typical Mexican restaurant grade. Their coffee was good. We kept accepting the server's refills. Their menu has plenty of selections to choose from for any time of the day. We will definitely be coming back to try the lunch menu. read more

I honestly can't rave enough about El Dorado, I typically come here once every two weeks. I have yet to be dissatisfied with any item on their menu! I highly recommend the chicken fried chicken it was delicious!! If you're feeling under the weather, try the "caldo de pollo" or the "caldo de res" - both are SO GOOD! Classic Tex-Mex done very well. Excellent, cheerful, and quick service! Take out was packaged well and as delicious as eating in restaurant.

The waitress was not attentive and drinks were refilled and/or anything we needed had to wait ~20 min. My water came with a dirty lime (looked like coffee grinds) when I asked for a new lime and the waitress was not fazed by the gross lime she gave me. Then I went to the restroom and there was a cockroach that looked like it has been recently stepped on. We got a botana for 2 and it was not stacked up against other botanas we have ordered in other restaurants. Quantity was minimal, quality was underwhelming. We won't be returning. read more

A friend of mine suggested this restaurant. The ambience and the decor are nice, however, the waitress was simply awful. I don't know if she didn't speak very much, English or what, but that isn't my problem. She seemed completely disinterested in attending to our table and our needs. She never came back to offer more water, or to ask if everything was OK with the meal. I ordered the fajitas delivered on a hot sizzling plate. The beef was very overcooked and basically burned. The onions were cremated, and the rice and refried beans on the side were awful. I had to ask for sour cream, which was delivered in packets like you'd get from a fast food joint instead of a small dish. I advised my friend that I will never go back to this place and I did something I very, very rarely do, I did not leave a tip. Lots of vegetables, good chicken stock, lots of chicken, cheese, avocado & lime...of course chips & salsa I could drink by the cup! My Mother was a happy camper to receive this dinner! I so hate going to a place in a new town and come away disappointed. With so many unexplored options and only a limited time - what a waste. I was staying next door so I decided to walk across the street and try the place out. Yelp had a few reviews, but not a lot I trusted yet I went for convenience. Mistake! They ordered. Served drinks. The. Noticed me. Not too bad, but noticeable. I ordered a margarita. They said they only had one one the rocks, not frozen. Not a problem, send it over. What came was the most noxious drink I had since experimenting in college. I don't know what was in it but it didn't seem like anything was alcoholic. Then came the mashed stuff that resembled chips. I ate them and they were definitely wholesale. It came with some weird velvet a mixed cheese but runnier and institutional tasting. Like it came from the local school before being watered down. The salsa that came was even worst. I decided to sample everything with the Fiesta Plate. In order of what I tried and ate: The rice literally made me gag. What was in there? The beans were extremely plain. I could warm an HEB can and get better results. The flauta was for real! This was what I was expecting all along. Perfect cooked chicken in a house tortilla fried up. Someone's momma must have pre-prepped them. Guac on the plate very fresh and good, but had NO love, skill, or spices applied to it. Just roughly mashed and lonely. The chalupa/enchilada was good again. Finally the taco carbon was very good but pretty dried out. No telling how long ago it was cooked. This place was all over. Went in on a Friday at 2pm with mom, dad, and my sister. Free chips, cheese, & salsa. The cheese is very watery & the salsa was bland. Ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice & beans. The cheese enchiladas were okay at best & beans didn't seem to have salt added. Rice was okay. Lemonade is great! My sister ordered the hamburger with fries. Buns were toasted, patty was gray & bland. Fries were a little soggy. The mustard bottle brought to my sister for her burger had a loose hair wrapping the tip & was dirty. Sister & I both experienced upset stomachs after dining here. We sat by a window & had to battle flies the entire lunch experience. The ceiling was run down looking but the painted walls & decor are nice. There was also another loose hair under the plastic cover protecting the tablecloth. This spot is open and serving delicious Mexican food. Their cheese enchiladas are excellent! The soft corn tortilla tacos were so tasty, I wished I had more. The fajita was flavorful and tender, well seasoned. Their rice was not dry like at a lot of places. Their salsa is delicious and well blended flavor without being too spicy. The cheese sauce however, was not good and tasted like it came from a can ... I'd pass next time and get lots of salsa. I'd love to go back and taste some of their other items, but I highly recommend that Tampiqueño platter. read more

El Dorado has been around for a while in our beloved Alamo, TX. Tonight, family invited us for dinner and so we gave it a try. We ordered a "Botana" for 4 people even though we were 5 adults and a child......It usually feeds more than what it describes. The "botana" platter consists of tortilla chips topped with beans and cheese.....your choice of chicken, fajita or mixed meats....flautas....fried onion rings....fried zucchini....and grilled onions and bell peppers. It also comes with a side of Spanish Rice and Refried Beans. Tortillas are available in corn or flour. A small bowl of nacho cheese also accompanies the platter as a dip for your chips. Everything tastes great! Portions look big....tortillas are fresh.... but there was a misunderstanding when we ordered via phone call. The employee had assured us the platter included "quesadillas". However we came to realize it didn't....right as we were looking for them in the platter. The waiter then called the employee who had misinformed us and she did nothing but defend herself saying she never said such thing. At first we were kinda bothered but our awesome waiter did a nice gesture out of pure customer service instinct and brought the quesadillas anyway, on the house. And honestly, that simply made our night! Our server was great as he was very aware of refilling our beverages and asking constantly if we needed anything else. Couldn't complain about anything tonight as far as food goes....(not counting the quesadilla incident)...and would really return thanks to the hero of the night, our waiter. I visited El Dorado late on a Monday night. I was VERY surprised by the quality of the food. Service was very prompt with friendly service. I really liked the salsa but it was nothing compared to the Tacos Al Carbon. The meat was tender and flavored very well and put into fresh handmade tortillas. Awesome service and the flour tortillas were HAND MADE!! . I came for lunch on a Tuesday. The special was BBQ chicken or Asado de puerco. I did love the sweet tea. We ordered appetizer Queso with chorizo. It was ok, it was served unlike most Mexican restaurants do it. . It was not in a melting plate, it's served with the chorizo on top so it's kind of soft not melted. The food is good but can be great. El Dorado is a Mexican restaurant that is located in Alamo. I came here for breakfast with my partner and his family. We had come here a couple of weeks before and had a ok experience so we decided to come back again for breakfast. The restaurant is in a old building in downtown Alamo and looks like they renovated it. The decor is your typical Mexican restaurant motif. It's good for family and friends but I don't think I would come here on a date or to impress . The food is mediocre nothing to brag about but also not horrible. I wish the service was a little better In order to have something good to say about the restaurant. Ok so I'm not saying this place is bad but it's not a place that I would recommend either. So to finish the restaurant is neither good nor horrible but I don't think I will come back here again. 1) food was ehh 2) service was ehh. If you like this place then good but as for me no thanks. Ordered a fajita and chicken botana to go from this place for six people. I'm visiting the RGV and was craving a botana. We couldn't sit and dine so the order to go seem perfect. I would give no stars if possible. I think their only available spice is salt. Everything is really salty. I'm not kidding, it's not just salty it's really really salty. Beans were salty, rice was salty. Salt galore. I looked around and it's mostly elderly folks and I just hope they don't have high blood pressure or salt restrictions. Gosh. The chips from the chips and salsa were from a bag. The fajita tacos had hardly any meat. When I asked the waitress she said they weigh them. I asked the owner/manager and he said it's suppose to be 3oz a taco but it was more like 1oz. I also told him about the salt and he said he would check. However he just went to the next table to ask how everything was going, and I was like, oh well I guess everyone will just ingest a year's worth of salt. The Food, well the chips were stale and the salsa which was suppose to be spicy hot was mild at best. The queso was horrible. We have breakfast here every Sunday after church, I love Mexican my husband usually sticks with American for breakfast, today the rating is pretty low, my breakfast taco my way was very good and hot, first my husband ordered flour tortillas, came with toast, quickly returned with the tortillas but no silverware, then when he was almost done found a twisted wire in his hash browns, told busboy because he wanted to throw it away, told our waitress she took it too kitchen, no sorry, nothing, cashier asked hoe everything was and we said not so good, she didn't seem to care, but told her anyway.
