I went here with a friend on a Saturday around 1:30pm for lunch. We were in the area and needed a quick lunch before heading back to our next thing, so we were in a bit of a hurry. Luckily, there was no wait at that time and the staff here were fast that day! My friend got the Fish Tacos and I got the Loaded Steak Quesadilla. I loved how the quesadilla dish I got came with my choice of filling on the side and choice of protein for the quesadilla. These quesadillas are larger than the typical ones, so it was actually very filling AND I got a good cheese pull from it! My friend's fish tacos were good, but it was kind of simple and didn't have much flavor, but we did like how crispy the fish was! I'd recommend this place! Came in here for lunch on a Sunday and got the best service ever from Marisol. She was so sweet! She served us and even got my puppy a bowl of water. My mom started off with a delicious Michelada and I just got a water with lemon. We also started with some guacamole and chips and this was good, nothing amazing. After walking by this beautifully colorful spot a million times when at the Farmer's Market, I finally popped in a couple weeks ago to dine. Important to note, it's facing the parking lot and not in the inner depths of the Market. I was lured in by advertisements of Dia de Los Muertos celebrations and an alter, but alas~ it was not there. However, I'm glad I was baited in finally and got to try El Granjero Cantina out! The staff was fantastic, friendly and prompt plus the playlist was poppin'! The prices are astronomical but such is the life at the Grove/Farmers Mkt/Tourist Spot. I had my eye on the $24 crispy fish tacos (you can pay $2 extra for them grilled, sigh) with an avocado sauce, radish and tajin. I found the crisp great on the fish and the accompanying plate was A-OK. My friend had the chips & guac with his dish so I had a few of those, also A-OK. Also tried the crunchy beef tacos and found the meat a bit dry and also, just A-OK. It makes me sad when I can't use more descriptive words than that for y'all but mid truly encapsulates the experience. Unfortunately the flavors didn't quite meet our expectations and left us wanting more and a bit disappointed. We agreed everything was A-OK but were hoping for deliciousness at the $70 tacos dinner price point! Huge yes from me. I spent too long at the sticker store at the Grove and was hungry, but the farmers market area was too overstimulating for how hungry I was. This landed me at El Granjero CAntina, which is nestled right between the market and the mall. I immediately liked the colorful vibes, playful menu, and kind servers. We had a group of 10 and were able to get some tables pushed together, which was great. We all got margs and shared nachos, which was a perfect mid-day snack. The frozen marg was one of the best I have ever had- smooth, acidic, and fiery. I loved it. I am somewhat of a nacho enthusiast and these were totally up to par. Fair spread of toppings, nothing soggy, plenty of cheese on all layers. We were all very happy with them. They also have two large, single bathrooms which was a great respite from the busy mall. This safe haven of delicious nachos will be in my memory for a long time to come. read more

Visited the grove to see what restaurants were in the farmers market, I had not been in years. I decided to go to this Mexican food place and it was pretty but empty. I ordered a pineapple cocktail, avocado tacos, guacamole and chips plus a beer $50! I said whoa, I didnt order that much lol Pineapple cocktail taste like sparkling pineapple juice, not worth the $13. The avocado tacos were lightly seasoned but the kale that was added with it had an overpowering taste of lime/lemon. Not sure how this spot is rocking a 4.4 star rating. It honestly feels super mid. At best, this is a very average restaurant with nothing that really stands out. The drinks? Just okay. Nothing creative or inventive--basic at best. The food and service? Bland, and that's being polite. With all the other options at The Grove and in LA, it's kinda wild this place is ranked so high. If you're someone who appreciates thoughtful dishes with real flavor and creativity, you won't find that here. The one plus: their patio. We stopped by for lunch after a doctors appointment and wanted to check this place out. Our waiter, Jack, was friendly and had a few recommendations. We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day, I would say the ambiance is cozy cafe style. My husband ordered the sangria and birria tacos and I got the pineapple soda and chicken fajitas. The drinks and food came out very quickly. The food was really good the only thing I would say is that they put cilantro on everything, guac, tacos, fajitas.. everything. This place was an unexpected surprise. We came for the Thursday night music but they changed to the plaza with no tables and chairs for eating. So instead of getting food from a stall, we decided to try this place and eat while listening to music it's very close. But didn't expect much. First of all, the nicest staff. Torn between giving this place 3 stars or 4 stars but the price point has me at 3 stars. We ended up here as my friend and I were working an event on Valentine's Day at the Grove and we were starving by the time we were done. As it was Valentine's Day and there is a long line everywhere on top of all the restaurants being fully booked, we were pleasantly surprised to stumble here and waited only 10 minutes. It was a really bright inside and would have created a much better ambiance had the lights been dimmed ever so slightly. The food menu had a decent variety of Mexican dishes and included a full bar but the prices were borderline ridiculous even for the location. The taste/flavor was good but it didn't blow me away for paying 3x what you should be for the tiny portion sizes. They really made it seem like you were paying for fine dining when it was really like your typical quick, casual Mexican spot. We started off with a couple of drinks and a small guacamole ($9) that also came with salsa. By small, it was pretty small but the flavor was all there and it definitely helped that it came out quick. I believe it was $26 for my fish tacos (and that was one of the cheaper meal options)----you get two tiny fried fish inside 2 tortillas and it comes with rice and and beans (I hate beans so you can ask for no beans and get extra rice). I think it was all of 2 bites per taco. It wasn't that great but rice was absolutely delicious. My friend got birria tacos and she said it was good but I saw her plate and it was also pretty small. I asked for hot sauce and the server said they had this super spicy sauce they make in house for $2 extra. I thought, why not because I was already spending so much on everything else. Do yourself a favor and skip that----it wasn't crazy spicy but there was also no flavor to it---just spice. We split the bill in half and I paid a little over $90 after tip for half the guacamole, an order of fish tacos, and one drink. Service for a busy restaurant night was actually pretty great and the reason why we had a great experience. Brittany was our server. She had such a great attitude and was friendly. Would I come back? It's hard to say but I wouldn't go out of my way. We went here because of the lack of options on Valentine's Day and we weren't planning on eating out after work. The prices alone for what they're offering just don't justify the trip. But drinks, guac, salsa, rice, and Brittany are on point. I was very surprised at the food here. I took my son and his friend there for dinner based on my son telling me the place has good food. He was right. Hey, the place is expensive for Mexican food, but the food is on point. I had the cheese enchilada plate and enjoyed it. I really like the beans and rice. Black beans that are creamy and tasty. The rice is light and right!!!! Chips and guac were excellent. Freshly made and you get a good portion. Salsa was good. The boys got the birria quesa tacos and loved them. They looked fantastic. My husband and I stopped in with our Golden Retriever to get a drink (or two) as well as a small bite in order to kill time while our child had their 15th birthday spending spree with a friend at the grove. Brittany was our server and she was THE BEST! She was so amazing with us and our doggy. She brought our big pup his own bowl of water and asked if it was okay to give him treats. It was just unbelievably overpriced for what it was. It was meat and a little bit of cheese and a bunch of iceberg lettuce and a few other things- smattering of tomatoes and cheese. The beef was quite tasty. The chicken was really unremarkable.. I would say the tacos were about 75% lettuce and 25% other things. The photo that they had outside had some kind of sauce on it and it looked pretty good, but that was not equivalent to what I ate. I had half a plate of lettuce when I was done eating.. for the price what I ended up paying including tip. I just think it was pretty ridiculous and all the prices were jacked through the roof in order of guacamole was like $18. So anyway, I didn't get it- there's not even an option to get a smaller one. Based on the photo outside, which is what got me into the restaurant. that taco was supposed to have like some kind of sauce or queso? I wanted THAT and honestly, it didn't look anything like the photo and it was just middling. The cocktails overall were just like bar prices like $20 plus.. i'm sure they do quite well for themselves being as they are in farmers market right outside the Grove. I just would not go here again. The manager followed up, apologized and reimbursed us the money that we were mischarged for. The food was amazing, the ambience made up for the ugly rainy day out. We were so happy to see a sit down restaurant with healthy options in the market area (which is not really our scene). Went with a large group yesterday. Massively over-priced not good food. Host and waitress were excellent, but food runner essentially blamed us for not accepting a plate of tacos that we didn't order. Son had the birria tacos and was awake all night vomiting. Chicken tacos were so dry we couldn't tell if it was real meat. Do yourselves a favor and enjoy something better and more fun inside the Farmer's Market. read more
