I am never disappointed when I go to this restaurant which is an echo of the same restaurant that went out of business for years and has now returned. I am so happy that it did. The food is the same delicious quality as it has been in the past. Tasty, affordable and so fresh. Sadly the portions have gotten a bit smaller. What used to be a huge basket of chips with salsa is now ow smaller. But who can blame them. The prices of food have blown up recently so it's not unexpected that something has to give. Thank goodness it's not the quality of the food. The margaritas have the same reminiscence of its former siblings. Strong, knock your socks off flavor of deliciousness. You don't even have to order anything but the house tequila. Because it's excellent. Our waiter Jayden was adorable. He was on top of it with suggestions and his mannerisms made us chuckle tableside. In fact, several of the waiters came by to say hello because I was with Christie who is a regular there. Nice that they appreciate and recognize loyalty. Lastly, I wanna come in on the bathroom. So many times I have an excellent meal and then you go into the bathroom and it's so disgusting that you never wanna eat there again. Most of the time employees use the same restrooms as the general public. So when you see restrooms that are dirty and dilapidated, it makes you wonder how clean the restaurant staff is being and how sanitize the kitchen is. Well, I'm happy to report that Marix has outstandingly clean restroom facilities. I remember back in the day having to wait to use the men's restroom because there wasn't a women's restroom. But now the restrooms are gender, neutral, and quite spectacularly clean. I love this restaurant and I'm so glad it's back. read more

Back to the 80s! So happy Marix is back. I swear, literally had to sit down in a wicker chair under the sunny retractable open roof, smile, and take it all in with a deep breath after walking in here because I felt like I was back in 1989. They've managed to completely restore this restaurant to almost exactly what it was like before in the 1980s-1990s, bar counter and all, when it had the most happening happy hour and was the coolest Tex-Mex spot in West Hollywood. Marix has the same upbeat vibe as back in the day and they've completely refreshed it. It's so on point that it feels like you're on a 1990s movie set or something. It honestly felt like Jeff Stryker, Olivia Newton John and maybe Belinda Carlisle plus the Go-Go's were gonna walk in at any minute. :D This was the see and be seen place for locals to meet up in West Hollywood for years. The energy is "totally awesome" and they serve fantastic margaritas and the best chips and salsa. I'm sad to say that their signature dish, the sizzling steak fajitas, is not what it used to be and was mid. Next time I'll try the shrimp fajitas instead, or maybe the chicken is the one to order? But the atmosphere is great, so who cares? Honestly. I like their chips & salsa so much that the fajitas didn't bother me. The scrumptious sizzling apple pie with brandy sauce and vanilla ice cream made up for it. Definitely come here if you want to have a fun time out with friends or a great date. I loved our server and he was really fast and on point with the order. Really want this place to be a success because it's so legendary! They're doing something right because it was packed on a Taco Tuesday at 6:00 PM. This popular spot closed in March 2020 and recently re-opened after a five-year hiatus with an updated menu, a revamped look, and fresh new vibes. The menu features Tex Mex fare that is reasonably priced. The portions are generous and margaritas are available by the pitcher. I came here with my brothers for some Sunday Funday shenanigans. They used to come here back in the day and had some wild stories to tell. Our server Branden was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! Loved him! The other waiter was great too. The décor here is lively & fun and the retractable roof emits tropical vacation vibes. We started with chips & salsa and a pitcher of the Skinny Margarita. The chips & salsa were tasty and the margarita got the party started. Ole! (We ended up ordering 4 pitchers.) Our food order consisted of: Nachos, Macho Stacked Chicken Enchilada with Herb Green Rice, Shrimp Diablo, Plato De Carnitas, side Caesar Salad, & a side of Fries. The Shrimp Diablo was tasty but needed more heat. The Herb Green Rice had a nice flavor. The Nachos were yummy as were the fries. Marix was one of our regular haunts for years, so I was genuinely sad when it closed. When it finally reopened, I couldn't wait to go back. The most surprising part? Prices are exactly where they were when the doors shut years ago. The food is much the same as well--solid, average Tex-Mex. The enchiladas and tacos are perfectly fine, just not the reason you come here. But once that first margarita hits the table, none of that really matters. Add in great chips and salsa, and you're reminded why this place has such loyal fans. The famous Marix Tex Mex Cafe finally re-opened after Covid. What a delight to have one of the good 'ol' restaurants come back again with some of the prior staff members that keep this place fabulous. The food was amazing and delicious and it's already on our list to frequently repeat. The ambiance is casual, clean and nice - but for those who have never been here, the seating is cramped up to one-another BUT is totally okay because the guests are all fabulous. We had the pitcher of Marix Margaritas with free chips and salsas, ordered the guacamole which was fantastic. Follow d by the Enchiladas Suizas and the Jorge's Crab+Shrimp Enchiladas. Honestly, the Jorge's was much better than the Suizas. Marix is a happening place - so come and enjoy a nice dinner or brunch and some splendid drinks. This is a quaint location and lovely looking exterior that welcomes you into a tree lined neighborhood. The place was well appointed with numerous table accommodating many. The waiter was very jovial in his greeting and immediately brought us chips and salsa. We also opted for the guacamole that was excellent and avocado forward which I love. The chips seemed freshly made, however there wasn't a hint of salt on them, I had to ask for a salt shaker to enhance mine. I opted for the 2 item special which included a chile relleno and a beef taco. They were tasty but lack luster, the chile relleno just seemed like an afterthought and the taco was too crunchy (I should have chosen the soft taco option) the meat chunks were a little chewy. Since I didn't opt for beans and rice, I was offered a side salad instead, which I thought was a nice service. The star of the show was the Margatini (top shelf) it was brutally shaken and served in a nice wide mouthed martini glass filled to the brim. This beloved neighborhood bar is back! Serving its classic margarita by the pitcher and comforting Tex-Mex favorites. For a lot of folks, this place holds lots of memories so many are glad that it's back! The space is small and they don't take reservations so you will most likely have to wait a bit. Since it's newly reopened, we got there around 5:45 and didn't get seated until about 7 for a party of 5. All was good because we were at the bar drinking margaritas in the meantime. I got the Steak Fajitas and they came out on a sizzling hot plate. Also recommend getting the Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream dessert! I have been to Marix on a few occasions since their re-opening. Sadly, it is no longer the fun, lively and tasty place I once knew. My last visit was on Halloween 2025 and it was okay. Ambiance: Pleasant Service: Okay Food: Okay. Their pitcher of margarita (skinny) was nothing to holler about and a bit pricey for the majority of the pitcher to be ice and not margarita. Overall, I rate Marix a 3 on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being great. If you haven't been back since the reopening, give Marix a try. Hopefully, your experience will be a 4 or a 5. read more

Looking for a casual, affordable, and socially-vibey restaurant in Weho...? Marix is officially back and open. You can tell when you walk in that this is a favorite among the locals. I stepped in early on a Friday night, and the space was buzzing with everyone celebrating happy hour to early dinner bites before a night out. There are no reservations here, but you don't need one... although you may have to wait a bit for a table during peak hours on the weekends. The food is pretty standard Tex Mex, I think the tacos I had were pretty solid and a decent price for restaurant tacos. The Margaritas here are a decent deal, we had a few Watermelon margaritas that night. Finish off with the sizzling Apple Pie for a little fun treat. I was sincerely excited to try Marix. It's local, the space has allure, and this is apparently its big comeback. Never did I expect that after my visit I'd be writing about the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. From the moment I kindly noted I'd stick to water, the server made a sarcastic comment about my choice. Something felt off right from the start. My friend enjoyed his meal and finished it. I wasn't too fond of my order--the fish tacos were underwhelming--but not terrible. When our server did a final check-in and asked if I wanted a box, I said no. He asked if I hadn't enjoyed my meal, and I gave an honest but gentle, "I didn't love it," adding that I'd had an upset stomach earlier in the day. I really thought that would be the end of it, as in most restaurants such feedback is met with a simple, "I'm sorry to hear that". In fact, the co-manager, Michael, came over shortly after to check on us. He apologized for any inconvenience, offered me dessert, and I politely declined. I told him the new space was beautiful, and we had a very pleasant exchange. But when the server returned with my check and card, he slammed a pen onto the table and, in a scornful tone, said I had "been a delight." He then threatened loud enough for others to hear that he hoped to see me back and that "the food will hopefully be better, but your service definitely won't be". If you're coming to drink, socialize, and keep dining expectations low, you might enjoy this place--and you're probably less likely to have an interaction like mine. My experience suggests to me that the energy here suits a certain type of guest, and I'm simply not that type. That said, I still root for Marix. I believe it has potential, and I hope its entire team can prioritize giving every guest--regardless of who they are or what they order--the grace and kindness we all deserve. read more

A small backstory. My partner has been telling me about this place since we first met 4 years ago. He was anxiously waiting for it to reopen. When it finally did, he was itching to go. Well we went last Saturday. I was disappointed. First he didnt warn me how loud it was. It sounded like the club. Apparently its always been like this this is just my warning for others who may not know. It was a 45 minute wait with nowhere to sit. Chips and Salsa: Salsa needed more salt, chips were good. I wanted puffy tacos, they said they had none. I settled for the Tres Enchiladas. The red sauce is very dark, darker than Ive seen elsewhere and I didnt care for the flavor. Since it was very saucy I cant even say I tasted the meat. One beef, one chicken, one cheese, the sauce overpowered them all. My biggest complaint with this dish was the tiny scoop of beans and rice. My partner showed me previous pics of when it was open before they used to give more. He ordered some type of steak that he said was not cooked well, like it was boiled or something and those onions looked like someone threw them on the grill for all of 2 minutes and they no longer had this chimichurri sauce he loved ( I looked up old menu and discovered this dish was the Cubano something that is no longer offered). This is positive and negative but the food came out way too fast (positive for fast food) for there to be any proper cooking for a steak and onions (negative). The only thing I enjoyed about this place was the margaritas. Overall the food wasn't great and it was too loud for me. I do recognize and acknowledge what this place means/meant to the locals, my partner included, so good for them for opening back up. Maybe they just have to find their footing again. read more

I'm extremely disappointed by our experience. The manager refused to seat us in the dining room because I was accompanied by my well-trained, legitimate registered service animal. Instead, he insisted that we sit outside on the patio. This is unlawful and unacceptable. I provided documentation proving my service animal to be legitimate, yet he continued to claim that the "health department requires service animals to be outside," which is simply not factual. Businesses are required to allow service animals in dining areas under federal law. We ultimately chose to leave and spend our money elsewhere. Discrimination is not cute, and it certainly isn't good customer service. I hope management takes the time to educate their staff on ADA compliance so this doesn't happen to someone else. Waited so long for them to reopen and kids it was so worth the wait. What a lot of newcomers don't realize is Marix Tex Mex has been around for nearly 40 years! Not sure I'll go back...maybe in a few more months. Originally went back for the nostalgia and the place did look like its former self but refreshed. It was crowded and loud...but that's no different than before and to be expected. As a party of three...we never had the chance to try the food as we left after waiting 90 minutes (arrived at 730 left at 9) and went to Bossa Nova a few blocks away. They have a nice app to see where you are in the wait list...but every time the app said we were next...it changed to reflect someone else was ahead of us. When I asked the host he acted like he had no idea about the wait and putting other parties ahead of us (something I've also read in other reviews). At that point we just left....did get a call about 2 minutes after we walked out the door to leave saying our table was ready (how timely??) but at that point we were done and didn't want to wait another hour for food. As I had gone to the Pre-Covid Marix and had plenty a good times....this was a disappointment. The A-lister attitude of the management and general vibe is a bit tiring and not warranted....its not fine dining. I want to preface this by saying I've always loved Marix, back before it closed down for a few years due to COVID. That being said, here's the nuts to butts honest review. It hurts to write this, given how much I irrationally love the place, but it is what it is. 1) You don't really come here for a full meal if you know what you're doing. You come here for chips and Margs - and maybe to split an entree. If you come with expectations beyond that, you will probably be disappointed. Chips and Margs is 85% of the full experience - so it works great as a place to grab drinks and apps before your dinner elsewhere. 2) The Margs are fantastic. Get the Kickass Margarita - this is why you come here. If I was giving a rating based on Margs and chips, I'd give it 4* easily. 2)The food is OK - ish. Avoid steak add ons to any orders like the Queso Fundido. Also avoid steak in general; across multiple orders and across several visits, the chef drastically overcooks the meat and oversalts it as well. My educated guess is the chef is a bit overworked and leaves the itty bitty pieces of steak on the grill 20 seconds too long. But tiny pieces of meat cook through in seconds, so clearly the chef is pulled in too many directions to put out properly cooked steak to medium rare. 3) On that note, just avoid the Queso Fundido altogether. The cheese doesn't come out as melted as it should and within 4 minutes it will become too hard to spread. Compare that with a place like Cantina Frida in Beverly Hills, where the queso remains spreadable for 10 minutes, and it's no contest. Really not worth the price of $19.50 (including tax). 4) The vibe and atmosphere is very fun. They have open air ceilings which really adds a lot to the experience. But it's not like, a Mexican spot -- it's more like a gay club dressed up in a bandido's outfit. I don't mind it, in fact I enjoy it mostly, but if that's not your cup of tea just know what you're signing up for. It is WeHo after all. You won't find mexican music here, it's club music - very loud club music. You'll have to speak louder than normal for your dinner companion to hear you. 5) Most nights it's excessively booked up and one hour waits are very common. I expect this will change very soon since the hype of the opening is naturally plateauing and once I see that this changes, I'll update the review to reflect it. 6) If you can get a table, service is excellent. I would love to give this spot a 4* or 5*, but I just can't. I go for the atmosphere and the margs that I don't have to make myself. Locals know what's up. read more
