This place is like a hidden gem! and it's so close to home too. Fiance and I originally were going to go to Fina Estampa, which is another Peruvian restaurant, but they looked like they were moving? I don't know. Anyway, we found this place and we were not disappointed! Great food! We shared the Yucca fritas, the Jalea and Ceviche de Pescado Plates and two Maracuya drinks. Everything tasted so fresh, full of flavor. The service was great as well, there were a few hiccups, but nothing to be upset about, since after all, they were really busy initially. The place was clean, tidy, even the chefs were in uniforms and they were friendly as they served you your food. Their prices are reasonable and affordable. We ordered Lomo saltado is a popular, traditional Peruvian dish, a stir fry that typically combines marinated strips of sirloin with onions, tomatoes, french fries, with side order of plantain and Chicha morada is a sweet Peruvian beverage made from purple corn, a variant of Zea mays native to the Mesoamerica, and spices. After having come back from a trip to Peru that included, Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Caral, and Ica, I came home longing for a taste of Peruvian cuisine. Little did I know I would find it in my own backyard. The Ceviche was great, and my family and I shared a Pollo Saltado (Lomo Saltado substituted with chicken), and Peruvian-style Chicken fried rice (Can't recall the name of the dish...sorry). Although i don't eat Peruvian food that often, I love the cuisine. There are several good Peruvian restaurant in the valley, but nothing beats Mario's on Melrose (sorry guys, but that's truth!). This place is very clean, and presentation of the food is excellent! I ordered Ceviche mixtom Lomo saltados, and tallalin de mixto. tasted good. Seafood in ceviche was fresh and tasted great, but more potato than actual seafood... :( Potato in Lomo Saltados were inconsistent (some raw, some cooked...). And the green sauce was not as good as the other places either... I think this place being new, it has a lot of room for improvement. But I think it was pretty decent place to have good Peruvian food. I will come back maybe in a few month to see if they improve food quality or not. read more

Came here for my dad's bday, I wanted something causal and not too pricey. Ended up being a bit more casual than I expected but that's ok. This place is small, staff is friendly, food is pretty good, portions are good and the prices are fair. The lomo saltado was definitely an all around favorite. The meat was tender, cooked medium rare, and was well flavored. I would come back just for the this dish! We also ordered ceviche de mariscos, dad loved it (he ordered 2 more ceviche orders to go - mariscos & pescado). Personally I've had better, but I've also been to Peru so I'm biased. Overall I thought the ceviche was good but wasn't overly impressed like dad. Where the restaurant lost stars was with the other dishes, the causa de pollo and the cau cau de mariscos were a bit salty for my taste. Plus we thought the chicha morada and the passion fruit drink were too sweet. Other than that, not bad. This place is what Fina Estampa used to be like about 20 years ago. They have a chef who knows chifa (Peruvian style Chinese food) and another who knows traditional comida criolla. They do a $10 lunch special every day which includes 3 courses. The entree changes daily. When I went it was aji de gallina. Delicious and one of my favorites. We also had the ceviche de pescado and an order of papa's a la huancaina. I took an order of causa de pollo to have for dinner tonight. Such a good deal and great food. read more

This is the best Peruvian place I have had in the valley! The food was all so delicious when I went here with a group of friends! We all ended up sharing each others' food because everything was so tasty! I had the arroz con mariscos and the ceviche de pescado and it was so delicious and fresh tasting! What really stood out to me was the service here. Our waitress was very patient and kind! And the chef and cooks were all cheerful and friendly. Half way through our meal one of the chefs asked us if we were enjoying the meal! It showed us he really cares about the quality of his food! Our friend was having a birthday and the waitress overhead and even though they were almost closing she brought out a dessert with a candle and the whole staff sang our friend happy birthday!! It felt very welcoming and joyful there and that's what food is suppose to be all about! I would say a solid 3.5 stars. The food looks vibrant and beautiful. Fresh ingredients but the flavors are on the mild side. It wasn't particularly a memorable experience for my friends and I. Found this little Peruvian gem and wow was I impressed. Small but the food is really good and a very good portion. You can see them cooking and their kitchen is very clean and organized. I had the fish with mixed seafood the first time and the second time I had the chicken stew.....both flavorful and the side sauce is spicy. The BF enjoyed his food too....steak saltado as well as his guyabanana. I definatly will make this a regular spot and definitely recommend. read more

We saw this place when it first opened up and didn't try it til we saw a few reviews. Very cold inside which I love because the valley is crazy hot. The food was very good, but slightly salty just like me. Not enough to stop me from coming back. The rice with chicken was bomb.com and the lomo saltado too. Spotted this place as I was heading into the grocery store and decided to stop by for dinner with the hubby. Yum! So glad we did, because it was very good. I ordered the salchipapas (reminded me of something I ordered in a small town in Mexico) and I had the Bisteque Pobre which was very good, my hubby had the Jalea and it too was very good (though it was a bit undersalted). Really a 4.5! The fish ceriche was excellent (we had the fresh fish version for $12) -- better than we've had in Peru and certainly better than anything else had in the UIS. The tamale was also unique. They lost a 1/2 star because food was just a tad salty for me (next time I will ask for a little less salt) and they try hard by bringing you some slices of bread (supermarket french bread) but would have much rather had something more unique to Peru. But it was great -- really nice people. If you've never had Peruvian cuisine, treat yourself to a bottle of Inca cola. We got to this Peruvian Restaurant by just yelling what was around, as a Peruvian, I know a good my food, everything was just good! The arroz with chaufa, the green spaghetti was delish. The waiter told me they are planning to open a new Restaurant in Chatsworth and Balboa. I ordered a single plate for my two kids because I know a plate in a Peruvian dish can be share for two kids. I found this place through yet because I've been dying to eat Peruvian food and since the one I go to is all the way in Orange County which is so good so I decided to Yelp and find some places in the valley that have Peruvian food I ordered the beef lomo which the flavor of the food was really unbelievable really tasty and satisfying our service was also extremely extremely quick overall this places a little gem. The only thing I would change is the beef that they use it's a little tough and they need to cut it a little smaller than me to use maybe top sirloin but overall the flavors delicious if you love Peruvian the food I suggest this one in the valley read more
