This place is a gem! It's in a shopping center but is big inside with plenty of seats. We started with the Thai Iced Tea which is flavorful, sweet, and creamy. We ordered Chicken Larb *spicy. Our waiter warned us that the spicy is very and it was, but still so flavorful and perfect heat for us. We also got the crab fried rice which was absolutely delicious, especially when we mixed it with the larb. We ordered Tom Kha Soup with seafood and were pleasantly surprised by how much seafood they included. Lastly, we got the pineapple curry *spicy with beef which had great flavor & heat, too. Chutamas has the best Thai food in LA! The food is amazing and authentic. Spicy is legit spicy. This is a family-owned restaurant, and the people have always been kind. I say this because one should not rest on your laurels and as for me, there is a desire to discover if eateries can keep up to the level that bestowed their past accolades. This is what brought me to Chutamas again. I must confess, I was surprised at what was about to unfold. What a difference 2 years can make. I ordered the famed Tamarind Fish. While it came out flaky and nice and crispy on the outside, it was so bland and the sauce lacked body and flavor. Thought I could fix it with the Thai Chilis and fish sauce. But that too was watery, minus the usual taste, with just a few pieces of Thai Chili and presented in a plastic container, the carry out version. Adding it to the fish imparted a more bitter and acidic tang to the dish. It was unmemorable. Why I didn't give 4 or 5 stars. The sewer smell was kicking today. That was not cool. Also, all their produce and groceries everywhere through the restaurant, not organized or put away. Like other Thai places I have tried, this one was similar except that the customer service was better than average. My family and I ordered the papaya salad, pineapple fried rice, chicken with peanut sauce, pad thai, pad see ew, tom yum soup and some various fried fish with tamarind, green curry and eggplant with chilies. For the drink I got the Thai coffee but it was way to sugary. It was very sweet, so had to dump it into another cup for someone else to get diabetes. The food tasted alright, I wouldn't say it was the best, it had a ton of salt in it and sugar but it did taste pretty good. The overall inside was nice and cozy. The seats were harder than concrete. The prices were over 15$ for each dish and the drinks were also pricey about 5 or 6$ for a sugar overload. I recommend coming because a few of the dishes were amazing such as the eggplant with peppers. The worst item was the coffee because it was too much sugar. The dish that I personally liked was the papaya salad. read more

It's a no for me. My friend and I ordered the curry, papaya salad, and pad Thai. The food was not anything amazing and was surprisingly sad by the quality of the reviews here. Her and I have been hopping all over the valley trying to find the best Thai and not sure I can say this makes it any list. The food overall was super sour and sweet with the combination of pad Thai and the salad. The pad Thai had much thinner noodles and didn't have the crushed peanuts to cut the acidity. The curry wasn't too bad, but the red curry looked more yellow. We were also eaten alive by bugs under the table and came out itching for a little while. The bathroom was also not super clean.
