The dining experience is good, but because of the food, I give it a lower rating. When we came in, we were immediately greeted and brought to our table. We were given menus and a few minutes later asked if we wanted anything to drink, and if we were also ready to order. We asked for a few extra minutes. When I saw the menu, I thought, and should have stuck to my gut, that the "Peruvian style Chinese" is a what the hell does that mean situation. Man, did I go wrong for not giving that a hell naah! The waitress brought out some hot bread and butter, as well as cold iced waters for us. We than placed our order. We ordered a chaufa de pollo (chicken fried rice), parihuela (soup), and a jalea (fried seafood). When the food came, all the smells hit, and I just knew it was not what I wanted or expected. I was expecting awesome wok-charred fried rice. What I got was some barely wok-ed rice, no depth of flavor, but lots of a CHINESE flavor/seasoning. HORRIBLE, why would you do this?!? What the hell!!!! This is definitely not what Peruvian fried rice is. No where near what it should be. The parihuela is something I've never had, so I cannot compare it to any others, but from it being my first time trying this, this is what i think. I think it was actually pretty good. It had lots of seafood umami (flavor). It had great depth. It had lots of crab smell, but why no crab? None at all, just the smell. Lots of fish and squid. The jalea, yucca not fried enough, it was slightly under. Lots of lemon-ny red onions on top, which is great as it helps cut all the nasty feelings of eating fried stuff. Only two pieces of shrimps, that were small too! It had 4 pieces of fish, and the rest was calamari. I am fine with it, but the shrimps should be larger. The batter should be thinner. The pieces should be crispier. Nothing great about this dish. It's so easy, yet it was not thought of well enough to make it great. Don't waste your time or money here. It's not authentic. It's not great. It's just passable food. The best thing of this meal was the bread and butter, and the cold iced water. The service was good too, but the food was not up to par. Let me start by saying I've eaten here over six or seven times at the beginning the food was really tasty. I would order the vegetable fried rice and then I started ordering the fried seafood platter. The first time it was absolutely amazing. I ordered it yesterday and the seasoning had no flavor And aside from that. It's supposed to be a combination plate of shrimp, catfish and calamari, however is mainly just all calamari they give you for shrimp in about four or five catfish so if you're not a big fan of calamari, do not order the fried catfish platter. If you are not Peruvian or Hispanic looking, save your money. We ordered the Saltado De Mariscos and Lomo Saltado. We have patronized lots of other Peruvian restaurants so we are used to the food being charred and flavorful. We sat next to the kitchen so we could hear our food being cooked. No flames and no charring sounds!! Our hearts sank. When our food arrived, true to what we heard, my beef was stir fried with no flavor. The rice was old and hard. The brown sauce was just that - didn't even take on the onion flavor because even the onions were simply stir fried and not charred on a hot pan/wok. The seafood - lots and lots of calamari and a few shrimps smelled and tasted nasty. Mariscos usually has more than shrimp and calamari. Other places, especially the one in Hawthorne has a mixed seafood which is charred and flavorful. We were ready to write it off as probably a mediocre Peruvian Knock-Off. However, that perception changed when the next customers (Peruvians/Hispanic) ordered theirs. We heard the loud char with flames as high as the ceiling when the cook was cooking their order. Ironically, one ordered the same Lomo Saltado. The aroma of charred beef filled the entire restaurant and we felt so cheated!!! So upset that they are picking and choosing how they cater to different ethnicities! (My hubby is White and I am Asian) We are foodies and we don't get fooled easily!! I love this place! My go to is the Mixto ceviche. It's an appetizer but I eat the whole thing as my dinner. Great mix of seafood and the citrus sauce is so good! I get medium spice to heat it up! It also comes with sweet potato and large corn. I also love the empanadas. Very good flavor and unique in that it's savory, yet slightly sprinkled with powdered sugar to give that sweet/savory taste! My husband's go to is a shrimp soup, but sorry, idk the Peruvian name for it. We've never been disappointed and the servers are so, so nice. All about that lomo. You know you want it. Their aji sauce is on point, and sometimes if you ask really nicely when you dine in, you can even get a hotter sauce for the bread and dipping fun. Their alfajores are also a gem. In my culinary escapades, I have tried to have Tamales that originate from different regions, whenever I can get the chance. I cannot remember the last time I had a Peruvian Tamale. So in order to refresh my memory, I had to try it once again. Fina Estampa is an authentic Peruvian restaurant on Winnetka in Chatsworth. Walking in, you are welcomed by a friendly staff and toe tapping Spanish music. While the menu has numerous Peruvian dishes, it also has Chifa favorites. These foods are based on Cantonese influences fused with traditional Peruvian igredients. There are also traditional pasta dishes, introduced to Peru and inspired by Italian immigrants. I ordered the Peruvian Chicken Tamal, their version of a Tamale that came accompanied by salsa criolla (finely choppen red onions and cilantro with lime juice and salt). Their green sauce is made with cilantro, jalapeno and potatoes. As such it looks creamy but flows wella, no taste of cream and only highlights the taste of cilantro and jalapeno. The proportions were well balanced to give the right amount of heat. As for the Tamale, it came to the table naked without a husk, banana leaf or parchment paper. It is made with corn masa and had the texture of corn bread. As a whole, it imparted a unique flavor. Apart from the chicken, it was also stuffed with an olive or two and a nice distribution of peanuts. I thoroughly enjoyed eating the tamale with its accompaniments. Service was superb. read more

We've been long time customers (since they were located on Topanga), but I didn't appreciate the quality of their food until I tried other Peruvian restaurants.
