Food was very good! I had the verde burrito with pork. One thing I really liked about it was that the meat was cut into small pieces. It just made it much more pleasant to chew. We ordered a couple of breakfast burritos, and I had to try their conchas (sweet bread) with an atole, which was rich and hot, perfect for the cool weather this morning. I unfortunately had to take it to go and was not able to dine in, but I feel like it's the perfect place for a nice, and peaceful dining experience, the name of the place translates to tiny hut. I think it's suits the place quite nicely. Small, yet cozy and cute. They play music and it's not so loud that it bothers you. The staff is super nice! The man that helped us, was very kind and patient. They very neatly packed my food to go, very presentable and did not forget my napkins or utensils. It always amazes how many places forget to do that, so that was nice. And best of all, the salsa was spicy!! When I get salsa, I'm definitely hoping I get that kick that we all love . It's not just tomatoes or tomatillos. I will warn you it's pretty hot! Definitely coming back, and trying something new. read more

One of favorite local eats ! Great food you can't go wrong with anything from the menu, very authentic Oaxacan food. Highly recommend! The couple that owns the place are always nice and attentive. They offer a few parking spaces in the back or meters in the front. read more

Great coastal Mexican food. We got a tlayuda with tasajo and a torta with cecina. The meats were both really well-seasoned, and the tlayuda tortilla was the right texture. The salsa on the side was great and really added to the flavor. Prices were moderate, about $25 per dish. The proprietor was extremely nice. read more

We ordered Coloradito and they gave us Mole Negro after they insisted it was coloradito. Coloradito is sweet and this plate was very bitter. Very rude over the phone and overpriced. $7 for a small agua Fresca. Wasted food since it wasn't worth driving all the way back. read more

This is the spot! Small and quaint but feels like home. Family and I always come here when we want good Mexican food for breakfast or lunch. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Personal favorite is the Tlayuda mixta but haven't had a dish I didn't like. Always recommend this place. read more

Normally i wouldnt do this but im sick of having to throw away money at places like this! Ya weve been going here for years . Love the food but the other day i orderd extra extra beans and rice for 11$ the waitress said she put an extra order of bean and rice , but she didn't! So i called and said something but they didnt believe me when i said it was short an order and for 11-12$ for beans and rice i expect the order to be right and the took the waitresses word . We've been long time customers and here's the pics of what they said was for 4 people. Thats 23$ of bean and rice ? Naw! Theyve kinda pulled stuff like this before. We stopped going there because they pulled shaddy shit before but the ffoid is great but if i wanted to give that money away it wouldnt be to them . Needless to say they didnt make good on it ! I ordered menudo from this place for take out. It was my first time trying it here and it was okay. I thought it was unusual that they put chickpeas/garbanzo beans in the stew instead of hominy. I've tried menudo in many other restaurants throughout the US (LA, El Paso, even in Hot Springs) and in Mexico and it has always been hominy. I was missing the the texture that hominy brings to the soup, the chickpeas made it more creamy/ starchy. The flavor of the broth could have been a little richer. As for the toppings, I love that they included fresh jalapeños, onions, and cilantro, but it was missing the dry oregano. Lastly when did menudo get so pricey?!?? My bill came out to $19. I would give this place another try because the other dishes they have look good. read more

Solid Mexican restaurant. I ordered the chicken mole enchilada plate, and it was very good. I also like that the chips seem authentic and not the bulk items sold by Sysco Foods. I've had a few other dishes from here and have always been happy with them. Today I visited again (Sept. 12, 2021) and had the barbacoa tacos (goat). They were decent, but seemed to lack something. I'm guessing that in their soup it is better. The two tacos looked like mini burritos, and came without rice and beans, which was fine, because it was enough food. read more

This little restaurant is spotlessly clean, with charming owners, and delicious food! The cactus salad is outstanding, the huevos rancheros were delicious and the chiles rellenos were excellent! The service at this small family run Oaxacan restaurant is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is low key and the space is clean and well maintained. I had the huevos rancheros, which were delicious, the beans creamy and tasty and the eggs perfectly cooked. Walked in this little hole in wall joint this morning because I was working around the area. Felt like family when I walked in. Service was on point. Where do I start!! Hands down one best huevos rancheros I've had in years. So flavorful and delicious best part they gave me 3 hand made tortillas on the side. This family-run Mexican restaurant has been our go-to neighborhood spot for the past 5+ years. Pre-COVID, we really enjoyed the small restaurant vibe, with mostly soccer played on both of the big screens. Their hours changed during COVID time (rightfully so), which has limited the number of times we could visit, but we still tried to support as much as we could and can. The complementary chips and salsa are bomb. Salsa is on the spicier side, but very flavorful. My favorite is their barbacoa (goat) soup that's available only on weekends, while my husband loves the carne asada and enchilada combo. Their rice is also so flavorful! read more

I love cuisine from oaxaca, and had been looking for to trying this place and now I'm a fan of their mole negro! FYI, their operating hours are actually until 4pm, not 9pm. I tried their enchiladas (2 cheese and 2 chicken), and mole negro over all 4 enchiladas. It was very good! The chicken was shredded and they covered the enchiladas with mole and sprinkled cheese on top. I will definitely be back for more :) read more

We got 3 orders of chilaquiles 2 red and 1 green. Everything was great about the place but the sauce on the chops were just too much. It was smothered and I typically like my chilaquiles with just enough sauce so that my chips are still crunchy. They were pretty wet. I was so impressed with this restaurant and the food was amazing! The best beef soup I've had in a long time. It was fresh, tasted amazing, had great vegetables, good meat and it wasn't greasy. Very good Mexican food on the westside. I tried the chorizo breakfast burrito first and it was a hit. That inspired me to try their regular menu items. We ordered the chicken flautas, Eric wet burrito, and chicken enchiladas with mole negro to go. All dishes were delicious and very traditional! Talk about hole-in-the-wall! When you're the only non-Hispanic table in the restaurant, you know this place must be a legit Mexican spot. It's located on Washington, a couple doors down from Humble Potato and Sunny Blue and there are a good number of tables inside the restaurant. The service is attentive and friendly. I loved their chips & salsa...we finished 2 baskets of chips before our food came out. I was told that their mole here was spectacular so we had to get an order of the mole. If you're a mole fan, you'll like it here. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of mole because I'm not really a chocolate fan (ya I know) but it has a nice roasted consistency. For my main, I decided to get an order of the tlayuda (Mexican pizza) with tasajo (thinly sliced grilled beef). It was my first time having it and while I enjoyed the toasted tortilla shell, I was pretty disappointed with the beef. It was tough to bite into and not tender at all. It reminds me of jerky meat which explains why it was so hard to cut/bite. On the bright side, I loved how much cheese was spread throughout and also enjoyed the avocado slices. For my first tlayuda experience, I wish I had just picked a different meat. El Jacalito is a hole-in-the-wall joint with authentic Oaxacan food. Maybe I'll decide to try it again and order something else. read more

The world didn't end! When being so disappointed from A-Frame a "Hawaiian" restaurant across the street, we walked to this little Oaxacan Restaurant "El Jacalito" that has AMAZING and healthy food!!! The servers are always great, my boyfriend and I love this place. This is where he had chilaquiles for the first time with tasajo and he will eat them elsewhere but nothing compares. The chilaquiles are awesome, better even than many places in Mexico. Good quality ingredients and stuff that you don't find everywhere- huitlacoche, chapulines, etc. When I brought my mom and dad my dad was eating and paused and told me he had forgotten he was in the US for a second and that it felt like home. Love this place a lot and couldn't recommend it more highly. I was reading the reviews from others and it seems clear that this place resonates with people who appreciate the diverse and multi layered tastes of Mexico and who know about the nuances of the cuisine beyond tacos and margaritas. If you want cheap tacos and a margarita this is probably not the vibe. I don't know why people come to a restaurant that has unique and specialized Oaxacan cuisine like the amazing mole and great salsas and hard to find ingredients like huitlacoche and chapulines only to buy like an asada taco and a margarita... lol

Great mole verde, but it is a place not kept too clean so I had to ask food to go, it is tiny and I can not imagine them not having time to clean the 2 tables they have. I do have an issue with dirty tables at a restaurant and plates been on top of a wood to drain/dry. I will only recommend food to go...it is a little under health, higiene maintance.
