El Jalisco is usually a great restaurant, this one is far from even being decent. The building is dirty and reeks of a horrible scent. The food taste is disgusting compared to other El J's locations. Every waiter has a 'let the other person do it' work ethic. They will not take you to a table once you enter, and will just stare at you until finally one of them decides to serve you. Two ladies after us waited about 15 minutes just to get a seat(note there were several waiters pacing by them while doing nothing but chatting with their co workers). Our orders were completely wrong, and our waiter split our check when we told them several times to not split it. This isn't our first time at this location, we've given it another chance or two but it's the exact same experience each time. Honestly my biggest gripe out of all of this is the cleanliness of the building, I'm shocked this place is still in business. I hate writing a review like this because I love El Jalisco's, but this location needs major improvement. If you dine there anyways, all I can say is good luck read more

My wife and I have eaten at El Jalisco every year on vacation since finding it in the Apalachicola area several years back. They moved a few years back from their downtown Apalachicola location to a new "diner" location on Highway 98, just east of the bridge to Apalachicola. They took over the old Sportsman's Lodge diner location. In fact, despite it being years later, many of the original news-clippings, advertisements and various original wall hangings from the Sportsman still hang in the diner. The style of food and the restaurant can best be summed up as working class. Many of the local fisherman and crabbers start their day here with high-calorie, low cost food. I wouldn't suggest coming here expecting anything other than good food, prompt service and a no-frills but substantial breakfast. While the menu is decidedly mexican inspired, they do have traditional southern american breakfast on the menu as well, including biscuits & gravy and a local favorite breakfast hash. My personal favorite is their Huevos Rancheros. It's quickly become the bar against which I judge other establishment's version of this delicious traditional texmex breakfast. read more

Despite some negative comments we chose this restaurant for dinner around 5:00 ish on Sunday. We got in just as a table of 11 arrived. Smaller parties arrived steadily after us. A nice touch to the atmosphere is watching some of the Hispanic television shows or the exciting soccer games (I'm a huge fan of soccer). As a local, I have eaten at El Jalisco for many years. Since they've changed locations, the only thing that has improved is the actual building. The food isn't the same and the service is consistently awful. Today I called and made a to-go order & when I went inside to pick it up, I was ignored by staff until another customer got a servers attention for me. When I went to pay for my food, they hadn't even started cooking it yet. Luckily I had nowhere to be, so I waited another 20 minutes until I saw my boxes sitting on the counter. In the end, I had to get another server's attention and ask if that was the food I had been waiting for. I really don't recommend this establishment unless you are just really craving mexican food. I hope one day the service will improve. read more

Only judging this on breakfast. eggs over easy were cold. Toast was cold and did not come buttered. Hash browns were crispy but tasted of Crisco oil. after we were served the waiter basically ignored us and after waiting 10 minutes for a check we got up and had to find him to get the check.Not crazy about the breakfast and wouldn't go there again. We were staying on St George Island and looking for a place that serves a big breakfast. We saw the menu on this app and thought we would try having American breakfast in a Mexican restaurant lol. We both ordered the breakfast combo and it was great. Everything was cooked perfectly except my eggs (ordered sunny side up) were a little underdone for my taste. But I asked if they could cook them a little more and they did... they were brought back over easy and were great. Prices were reasonable too....especially since they brought out large portions. Please note that this place is NOT on the island. For some reason we thought it was but it's just right off the bridge. Not far and worth the drive. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. I went with my partner and my daughter on May 29th for breakfast. Roberto was our server. He was so rude from the beginning. He was very condescending and bothered by our presence and anything we asked for. The bacon came out burnt, we asked for a replacement and neither he nor the manager were accommodating. My partner doesn't like breakfast so she asked if she could have some salsa (it was 10:45am). Roberto told her they don't serve lunch until 11:00. At 11:03 he marched by and served salsa to the table next to us and when she tried to get his attention he ignored her. My daughter was upset and it was a very unpleasant experience. After we talked to locals at other restaurants... they have experienced the same thing and haven't returned! We wish we would've gone somewhere else first and knew before wasting our money, and more importantly, our time, at this place!!! read more

Nice Mexican restaurant, friendly staff, good service. Varied menu - even breakfast! Salsa typical, tasty. Chips - had some large chips mixed in with a bunch of quite small pieces. Cup of Tortilla soup $5 a bargain for what turned out to be a Huge Bowl - was good but not what I was expecting - basically tomato vegetable soup with shredded chicken; not served with avocado or lime or cilantro. Had we known it was so huge would have shared just one bowl - and shared an entree or skipped the entree - too much food! The soup was topped with lots of big tortilla strips somewhat crispy but got soggy fast. Carnitas plate was good. Fajita chicken taco salad good - topped with a whole grilled chicken breast. Leftovers will make another meal! This trip to this area we took a break from seafood for Mexican, but might come back for breakfast! read more

Right off the bat it really was not a good vibe, the host acted like it was an imposition that we walked in the door, took us to a table and literally tossed the silverware and menus on the table. So, ok, maybe he was having a bad day, we overlooked it, hopefully some good food would make it worthwhile. Then we were greeted by not the friendliest waiter, what is it with the staff, they don't want to be there? We needed a little more time to browse the rather extensive menu, I guess that annoyed him too, by this time I was starting to wonder about our dining choice, I probably should have followed my instincts and my friend's and left. My hubbys food was decent, my friend's hubbys was ok, my friend and I ordered the carnitas dinner, definitely not like any carnitas I have ever eaten, they rank right up there with the worst ever, the pork tasted like it was left in the fridge for a few days and they maybe poured some kind of weird tasting sauce on it and dumped it on the plate. I'm hoping I don't get sick from the the fatty pork, except I know I only ate a couple of bites so maybe we won't die. I may have to go show that cook how to make refried beans because I know he or whoever, sure doesn't. I can make better from scratch at home, it's just refried beans, not rocket science. This is a tourist trap preying on unsuspecting travelers who could not find a breakfast place in Apalachicola. Ok I have eaten all the oysters and all the shrimp I can on this trip and we decided to try this Mexican place. Hesitated because of the reviews but went anyway. The margaritas are worth the whole trip! Sweet and fresh with muddled mint. Food fresh and plentiful. Wait staff do not speak very much English but very attentive and efficient. Please give them a try. Don't listen to the bad reviews. Check it out for yourself they will not disappoint.
