Really liked this place. I am not from Tallahassee, but Mexican food is ALWAYS a good idea no matter where you're from. Decided to come by after driving around and craving guac. Noticed how authentic it felt from the parking lot. Their chips and salsa was delicious. Very fresh and was served relatively fast. Added guac to our appetizer and it was very tasty. For our entree, we got the fajita platter which was nothing short of HUGE. It had everything! Extremely filling and definitely for more than just two of us. From the hot sauce, to the meat and cold Coronas, everything was perfect. Service was also great and our server was very attentive and with great attitude even less than an hour until it closed. On my way to another spot and my friend had me turn into this spot because it was highly recommended to him. There was a line, which is always a good sign and the place was jumping. We were a group of seven, so we sampled a lot of the menu, we started with drinks, which to me were the highlight of the meal. They really do alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages right. Then we moved to the table side Guacamole, which had a great consistency but the flavors were lacking a little bit, like it needed some lemon, salt and possibly some garlic....anything to give it flavor. For me, I mixed it with the fresh salsa they serve and really enjoyed the combination of flavors. Okay, Mexican restaurants are a personal choice and my choice is is cooked from scratch, but I just was not impressed with my dish. While everyone else seemed to eat their meals, there were certainly non"oohs" and "ahs" and there was plenty of food left on plates. Great food but on this particular night our server was a little spacey. She forgot to bring utensils, extra cups for dipping and when we called her over for napkins she said just one minute and disappear for like 10 mins. They also ran out of margarita cups so I didn't get my salt rim but tons of tables around us hadn't been bussed so there were cups just laying around. Walked in on a Friday night with my wife and 2 best friends hoping for an amazing ladies night.... and got anything but. I get that you're busy... we waited 30 mins to be seated and our waiter was an older gentleman... we order Margaritas... I see everyone else get glasses but nope we get cheap plastic cups for our drinks. But final straw for me was when my friend asked for a flight of Margarita's and the server tells her she can only have 1 flavor. Um excuse me? In what planet does a Mexican restaurant advertise a flight with 4 glasses and only offers one flavor? It doesn't make sense. The food was okay. Nothing special. The usual you expect from El Jalisco. At the end of our experience of being told how busy they are, waiter stressed out because his manager can't get his shit together our table asks to speak with whoever is charge. We tried to explain to him how terrible our experience was and we didn't understand why they offer flights of margaritas and only offer (1) flavor. Straight up told him I won't be back and next time will go to Casa Grande. He said okay and walked alway. He never even apologized.... Seriously, El Jalisco I will never ever come back to your establishment. A company that can't admit that they are wrong when they clearly are isn't a company I will support. This place is so good! After seeing a lack of reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm so glad I decided to stop in! When you pull up, it just looks like an average building and if you blink, you'll miss it. Once inside, the place is painted and has a very authentic feel to it. There are booths and tables, a small patio with a few tables and a small bar with a few seats. The bathroom could use so touch ups but the atmosphere was definitely correct and authentic. There is also plenty of parking outside the restaurant. We were promptly seated and brought chips and salsa, which are free and we weren't charged for refills. The dips, cheese and guacamole and a few others were priced reasonably at $4.50 and were pretty big for the price. It was Monday and the tacos were $0.99. I'm not sure if this is every Monday or not but you can choose between chicken and ground beef. Usually I like ground beef more, but the chicken had a much better flavor. It was like a shredded chicken. So good! Tacos come with lettuce and cheese and a hard shell. I also ordered a side of beans and those were surely homemade and delicious. I could have eaten more of those! They have a lot of specials for lunch depending on the day and their dinner prices are pretty good. I would highly recommend checking it out! read more

I ordered a chicken fajita salad. I mean, really, how can you screw that up? And yet it looked like baby s*** and the chicken was not done in a fajita style. Does not allow service dogs without documentation which is not required and against ADA regulations. I would not give this restaurant another dime...ada.gov specifically states "CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION Q17. Does the ADA require that service animals be certified as service animals? A. This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. I hate giving restaurants such a low rating, but it was well-earned. We were sat immediately and on the outdoor patio, as we requested. The restaurant was by no means packed, I would say I little more than half capacity. There were multiple empty tables in the patio and i noticed at least 5 servers in and out working with their tables. After 15 minutes of being sat, no one had come to bring utensils or take our drink order. My mom tried to call over a couple of people at one time and they all ignored her waves. Finally, we were able to ask one of the other servers for assistance. Our server finally arrived, offering no apology but took our drink order. He was rushing off before we asked him if we could place an order of appetizers and were ready to place our dinner order but he left quickly again. Another 15 minutes later he came by with waters. When we finally got our drinks, he left behind a soda and I asked if we could place our dinner order. He said he would go get the apps and come right back. We ordered table side guac, but he was extremely rude to my mom when she asked to leave out the jalapeños. He also did not ask what ingredients we wanted in there or how we preferred it. We finally got our dinner an hour and 15 minutes after being sat. He did not check on us while we ate until we asked for the check. When he did bring the check, he waited by the table until we paid. This was the only time he seemed to be able to spare during the entire night. The food was okay. The guacamole was bland so we added our own salt and pepper. There were no limes available or offered. The ceviche was okay. They add tomato sauce on it which was a little weird. The shrimp and fish were tasty but definitely cooked prior to being added to the lime. My mom, friend, and I shared the master parrillada, a mix of steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, and chorizo fajitas. This dish was pretty tasty and VERY huge. It's listed for two people to share but even the three of us didn't make a dent. My sisters quesadilla was just okay. She ordered with shrimp but the cheese it came with was weird, it tasted like American cheese slices. All in all, it was a terrible experience with the worst service I've had in a long time. If you're lucky (like I was) if your server forgets about you, you will get a complimentary margarita (or shot of tequila!) So we stopped here after a FSU game before we drove 4 hours back home, and it your typical Mexican joint. Huge list of food items and your large margarita list. We were sat right away, but it took a while for our server to greet us, then even longer to put in our drink and app order. Don't get me wrong, I was SUPER hangry at that point and I looked over and saw our server attending to 2 other tables that all sat down after us, so I just had my hangry glare going on. Luckily though, he realized and came to take our order immediately and was very apologetic insisting on he get me a marg or shot of tequila on the House. I couldn't resist! I chose the Mexican Enchiladas - four enchiladas of a variety of types. Came with sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomato. Excellent quality and a great price for the food. Overall, this experience was amazing. Out of all of the Mexican restaurants in town el Jalisco did not disappoint. The enchilada's were perfectly cooked and the chicken was just right. The queso is some of the best in town as well as the margaritas. The shrimp was not my favorite, but was still tasty. Overall, the restaurant was clean, service was timely and efficient, and the food was delicious. I would recommend this as one of my favorites for Mexican in Tallahassee, at this point. read more

I saw this place from the main road and saw a ton of people dining at their outdoor patio so we stopped to check it out. We were seated immediately in the patio and chips and salsa came shortly after. There were a couple of large groups seated around us so we saw the waiters managing their orders. I was beginning to think that we were forgotten about because we didn't have an assigned server to take our drink orders until nearly 15 minutes after being seated. The food was average and I thought the BOGO margaritas were a bit weak. The rice portions are much smaller than other places that I've been to so that was slightly disappointing because I love Mexican rice. After our meal, our waiter didn't come back to wrap up our orders and cash us out so we had to find someone to do that for us. We ultimately engaged with three different people throughout our night so we weren't sure who we were tipping. All in all, my husband I are still on the hunt for our new favorite Mexican spot since we just moved to the Tallahassee area. read more

Awful experience!! My bf arrived around 9:20ish. He was going to order a quick meal and drink for us. They didn't provide any service for a while until the manager began defending their lack of service by quoting their closing time of 10:00. By the time I arrived (9:40ish) drinks had been ordered and we just needed the food to go. We had to flag down the server to even get anyone to come get our food order while the manager gave us dirty looks the entire time. Eventually the manager walked over to challenge me, saying "do you have a problem that you keep looking at me?" We went back n forth a bit and then he told us we needed to leave (they still had over 5 tables going with food, drinks, etc. so we could not understand their issue) Our server returned with the food to go which we refused to pay for due to the lack of service. The manager accused us of theft and ran us out of the restaurant while trying to fight us the entire time. El Jalisco is your typical tex-mex restaurant. They recently shortened and classed up their menu a bit. I came for lunch today so I was only able to see the lunch menu, but it was much smaller than before. El Jalisco has great deals on lunch and alcoholic drinks. Drinks are 2-4-1. I usually go for the frozen strawberry margarita, although you can get beer, other margarita flavors, and more on this deal. The lunch specials include a pick one or two items ($6 or $8), as well as some other platters. Today I was looking for something a bit lighter so I just chose the pick one, with a chicken quesadilla. The pick one or two comes with refried beans and yellow rice. Everything was very tasty! My absolute favorite lunch and dinner entree is the chimichanga platter. They perfectly fry the burrito, leaving a crispy outer shell and delicious stuffed interior. Highly recommend this entree! Overall great restaurant for cheap and delicious food and drinks! read more

I've been pretty pleased with the experiences and food I've had at El Jalisco the times I've been. Both times, I was seated right away. There are a lot of tables both inside and outside, so it's usually really easy to find a place to sit. Each time I've been, I've ordered something different, but one of my favorite things to order at El Jalisco is their chips and queso! The queso is so creamy and delicious and not too spicy like the queso at some Mexican spots. I would recommend this for anybody who wants something a little different from the regular chips and salsa appetizer. The chile relleno is also really delicious -- I particularly like the beef filled option. The chile doesn't get soggy like it does at other places, which is usually my primary complaint with chile relleno dishes generally. The fajitas are pretty good here. I've had the combination of all the meats (steak, chicken, and shrimp) and I think the steak is probably the best meat. Service can be pretty hit or miss. Some days it's on point, but other days you get totally ignored. Prices can be kind of high for certain menu items -- the fajitas are kind of pricy if you get two different meats. Overall a pretty good Tex-Mex choice in Tallahassee, though I didn't really feel amazed or think this particular restaurant was any better than any other Tex-Mex places I've been to. read more
