I love this place. Food and Drinks are very good. I would have gave them 5 Stars, but I would have to admit, that they cook their fajitas a little more than I would like,their tortillas are too thin to make a taco without breaking up, and I do not like being charged for onions on my enchiladas. We stopped in mid-afternoon yesterday, May 4th. There was only a light crowd and we sat on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. Unfortunately, our dining experience included an inattentive and absent minded waiter, inedible chicken fajitas, watery margarita, and a manager that seemingly didn't care. We ordered chicken fajitas and a side of queso. When the food arrived, we noticed the waiter hadn't provide the tortillas. The queso also had a semi-hard film already on the top, so it had been sitting somewhere. After a wait of about 10 minutes the waiter finally came by the table, we then asked him for the tortillas. After he brought the tortillas, we then only realized he hadn't brought the sides, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. It took another 5 minutes to locate him. After informing the waiter of the missing sides we decided to start eating the chicken. The chicken was difficult to cut, so I took a piece and tried to pull it apart while holding both ends. It literally stretched! My guess, it was left over from lunch several hours earlier and reheated in a microwave. I'll also add we asked our waiter no less than three times for straws. At this point I went to locate the manager. After listening to our feedback regarding the service and seeing the rubbery texture of the chicken, all she said was sorry, I'll take the chicken back and bring you another order. She seemed rather disinterested in the matter. We said no, we'd prefer to just leave. She simply walked away, we weren't sure what to do, but then the waiter presented us with a bill for approximately $20 for the untouched queso and the half consumed margarita. This was both incredible and sad! We paid and left. read more

The only thing good was the enchiladas but everything else I had was pretty bad. The beef fajitas and rice were bland and their chalupas was pretty much a tostada shell with tons of lettuce and hardly any meat or other toppings. Family-run place with solid Mexican Food. Warm tomato salsa and good chips. Everything I've had here has loads of flavor, and their weekend breakfast has some fantastic cheesy chilaquiles and a very creditable menudo. My favorites so far are the shrimp enchiladas [huge shrimp] and the translucent housemade fresh flour tortillas. I think this place could hold its own against anything in Houston. I went to El Jarrito after years, I hadn't been there since early college I think. But I wanted to try something different than the usual, so I suggested this place. When we got there they were busy, but seated us right away on the patio. We ordered some margaritas and queso and they both came out very quickly. So did our fajitas! We didn't even have time to put a dent in the queso by the time they came! The only thing I can say bad about it (the wait staff was AWESOME) is ALL the food was so bland! Mexican food is my favorite food but everything we had that night was so bland. Even the margaritas left something to be desired. After careful consideration of good Mexican restaurant, I chose to go here. However, I must tell you that, I was mistaken, and the restaurant fell way below my expectation. I would not consider this restaurant ever again. With that, I have asked my friend and family to please consider below before adventuring out on their own. Food: 1. Beef Fajitas were not all that good. It taste like they were fried instead of grilled and had a overwhelming "oil" flavor. This should not be the case for grill fajitas. 2. Stuffed Jalapeno has very bad taste. My wife and I had a awful reaction up on taking a bite. 3. Beef Quesadillas did not taste right, the "oil" that they used in fajita overpowered it. 4. Flour tortillas were great. However, they charge extra for additional tortillas. Seriously, who does that. I mean, specially for fajitas that is already overpriced. 5. Re-fried Bean: Unfortunately, their bean contain pork so i was left without any bean. And they offer NO alternative. Normally, restaurants have black bean but not this restaurant. :( 6. The complementary salsa did not taste authentic. it tasted more line can tomato sauce with fresh dash of onion, cilantro and line. I seriously expected warm authentic salsa flavor. I was waaay worng. Drinks: 1. Happy hours are not happy in my book. 2. Margarita didn't taste quite right. for $6 happy hour premium margarita i had high hope. However, it fell waaaay short. Even Taco Cabana frozen margarita taste better. 3. Drinks are not consistence, my wife ordered one and she received a normal "mug" of frozen margarita. 10 mins later, when I ordered my second margarita, I received my margarita in "wine" shape glass. my wife and I looked at each other in confusion and started to laugh as to why would one frozen margarita different than other. 4. anyway, if you are looking for happy hour, then I would not recommend this restaurant. in fact, i would not even recommend this for cheap happy hour margarita. Environment: 1. Restaurant had good feel to it. music was great, the look and feel of the restaurant was great too. 2. The restaurant had good Mexican theme i really enjoined the view. 3. I did not like the lightning, in my mind, it was bit to bright. I actually moved from one table to another due to excessive bright light hanging over the table. hate to be picky here but i cant stand the bright "interrogation" style lightning. Service: 1. I wish waiter interacted bit more. perhaps it was the language barrier. who knows... I wish i had good thing to say. I really do. :( Anyway, After every new restaurant, I ask my family a one question that is "Repeat or No Repeat?" Unfortunately, the group decision was "no repeat". Of course, it was evident of the above finding. Anyway, in my final words, i owe it to my friends and family who think and have same expectation as I do, hence, my review. I was really impressed by how methodical the wait staff was. Moments after being seated by my hostess, the waitress arrived, then my chips and salsa, then the rolling guacamole station (very innovative), etc... This was our first time at this restaurant and we had a good experience. There is a very large patio outside but seemed way too noisy with all the kids on the playground area screaming and climbing. Definitely a great place for families. Our waitress was quick and attentive. The only thing I can complain about is that our waitress didn't speak very good English and couldn't answer my questions about the menu. She was really sweet though and quick! We had chicken fajitas and they were ok. The margaritas were great but I don't think the large was worth $10. There's much cheaper margaritas in Katy that are just as good! Pretty good! I ate here with my boyfriend for New Year's Day. He had the cheese enchiladas, I had the chicken ones. Be warned: Portions are huge! This location has a lovely, big patio, and the inside decor is definitely colorful. This is a place that leans into the kitsch appeal. From an atmosphere perspective, I give this a 3.5. The food is not all that special, though, maybe a 2 or 3. The menu seemed hard to evaluate the first time I was here, and didn't improve on subsequent visits. It could be organized a little better, maybe updated with different fonts and photos. I want so much to like this place, since it's unique to Katy and many people seem to love it. Terrible customer service and very dishonest!!! Its sad when an establishment takes advantage of people!! We received a 60$ El Jarrito gift card from a close family friend to help with meals for our family due to a horrible accident. We gave our waiter the card for our bill (Carmen) came out and said that the card has never been purchased and then decided to explain that it's real easy for people to just take a card with out paying for them because they are right by the register. I explained our situation and that a very stand up woman gave it to us as a gift and would never steal a gift card!!! The service is amateur. The chips and salsa was somewhat okay. The service was slow even though we went during a slow hour. My wife and I both ordered the green enchiladas. The salsa was over done with lime, the chicken tasted as if it was frozen prepackaged meat, and the rice taste and texture made me believe it was made and served for several days. It was so bad I told the waiter to take it away after only a few bites, and the waiter didn't even bother to try to find out what was wrong with the meals or offer to remake or reselect another dish. This is one of the better Katy Mexican food establishments (along with Lupe Tortillas and Los Cucos). They have good salsa that is served warm and charro beans to dip the chips in. I especially like their enchilada verdes and beef fajitas. The menu is extensive with a wide selection of items. They have a separate section on the menu for flour enchiladas and one for corn, which I like. There is a nice, large patio outdoors. Happy hour lasts until 7pm. read more

They also give me a hard time every time I want to customize my meal. The two stars is for food quality alone, it is great! The prices are too high & communication is impossible. The atmosphere is awesome and the have the table side guacamole service which I love! The margaritas were tasty I got mine on the rocks. Our server was absolutely amazing!!!! He was on top of his game! My chicken fajitas we alright the chicken could have used a little more flavor to them but they were served with all the fixing I liked! My husband got the El Jarrito jalapeño chicken fajitas and that was really good! I would order that the next time I go because it had more flavor than mine.
