We're new to Pahrump and had high hopes for Mexican food here. Been here several times now. Service is just ok. They are stretched too thin for such a large restaurant. On four separate trips... Chimichanga shredded beef is just ok. Not much flavor. Carne Asada tacos. Meat was so tough I could hardly get it down. Crispy tacos were a joke. Preformed folded shells that fall apart on the first bite. A crispy taco is usually deep fried. I can make them better at home. Finally, the Taco salad with shredded chicken. Absolutely the worst. Chicken skin, gristle throughput. Yuck. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Had to keep salting it. I could not finish it. This place could be so much better if they just took more pride in their food and service. It's a large restaurant right on the highway. Beans, Rice and chips were also not memorable. read more

The lone star is for the food.... which was ok But not worth the ridiculously long wait. We we're seated quickly... that was not a problem. It was the waiting...we also had this problem at the other restaurant....we waited to get a soda...and then waited to have our order taken.... then waittttteeeeeddddd forever for the food to come.... no one refilled our drinks... no one checked to see if we were happy with the food.... nothing. We had to flag down someone to get to go boxes...flag down someone to get us the bill.... it was not a good eating experience.... the company we had was wonderful....the food.... We are visiting the area from Dallas. This place was suggested to us as a good place for Mexican food. And the food was great. Margaritas were difficult to drink. I think they were made from a mix we did not care for. The service was excellent and it was obvious this place is loved by locals. A place where everybody knows your name. read more

The chips, salsa and guacamole were pretty good. They were a little bland however. I ordered the mole chicken enchiladas - they were really good. The rice, beans and salad complimented it well, too. I really enjoyed my meal but my waiter never came over to ask me how my food was. I had to go to the take out window to pay my bill, because I still couldn't find my server anywhere. Not very good. Ate dinner there tonight. I had the chicken Diabla and my wife had a chicken quesedia. Also had 2 frozen margaritas. The chicken tasted old and past its expiration date. Terrible food. It was awful. The service was terrible. ......AND the very WORST Margharita in the United States. One in our party had to eat gluten-free and he was assured his entree would be gluten free, he was painfully ill the next morning. All tables were dirty and full of dishes and though there was enough staff there was a lot of useless busywork with no interaction with guest. El Hubbo and I we in town staying at Spring Mountain Motorsports & Resort and I was craving a margarita. We were skeptical about coming to El Jefe because it really had mixed reviews from fellow Yelpers, but we went anyway (I like to live on the edge, hence the reason I was even in this town in the first place at Spring Mtn Motorsports). We arrived and were surprised that the lot had several cars. That's a good sign IMO. One of the staff greeted us promptly and sat us down. We got chips and salsa, which were very good. We ordered our margaritas and since we knew we were getting fajitas, we ordered that at the same time. I am surprised that others commented on it being slow ... quite the contrary for us ... our food and ritas were out within 15 minutes max. Since we are use to Tex-Mex, the fajitas were a little different for us in that they came with zucchini and bell peppers (versus the jalapeños & onions that were use to). Not a big deal because they were tasty! They were a little on the salty side to me, but as I always mention in my reviews, this is an issue with me, because I don't use salt and it may be just right for someone else. The tortillas did seem to smell as though they were store bought (like the low carb tortillas I buy back home) but they tasted fine and it wasn't really a big deal. El Hubbo was also disappointed that they didn't have Chile con Queso, but again, this may just be a Tex-Mex thing. Nonetheless, he lived to see another day even though he couldn't have it. Food is always very good. Problem is the service is slow. They seem to never have more then 2 waitresses on at a time.

After many people saying this was the best Mexican restaurant we wanted to try it. We came here once and I had the Taco Salad, my husband had a burrito. After eating here my husband didn't feel too good. Not sure why but he wasn't sure if it was what he had eaten there cause he did not have anything else that day. The place was not too busy it was early dinner time but service was a bit slow getting our drinks and it took a bit to get our food. We just did not see what the Hype for this place was. We have had much better Mexican food before and there s another in town we think is much better. Would be recommend? As I say most the time its best to always try yourself. Maybe it was a off day for service and food. Would we go back? Maybe. Not sure. But if we do give it a 2nd chance I want to try the Fajitas maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. read more

I asked if they had a spicier salsa and was served an orange colored liquid in a 2oz cup that was pure heat and pain but no real flavor.Their Chili Relleno had a mild chili, good cheese, and a nice coating. The chicken enchiladas were nice. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The red sauce was good but the green sauce was salty. The rice was good but the beans tasted like Rosarita Traditional Refried Beans.
